Any Postal Workers here? **********UPDATE POST #29**********

It would be interesting to hear why they delivered today. That’s definitely rare. As for Amazon, just last week I ordered an item & had 3 options for delivery, one was something like 7-11 pm, another 3 - 8 am, the 3rd was 10 am - 1 pm. I’ve never seen options for delivery during the night. I picked the 10am time of course.mm

Sometimes if you spend enough, there is the same day option (or crazy overnight times). I have tried overnight and discovered it is hit or miss as I live in a condo. All Amazon delivery should be able to get into the community with no issues but the overnight ones are often different drivers and cannot get in. They often deliver to the office door (outside the gates) or throw over a fence (one neighbor's package nearly landed in the pool and I found one on my balcony a bit after it was delivered for someone who lives on the 4th floor) or gate (found one of mine next to the gate). If I am going to have a package go missing, it will be one of those. So now, I pick for after 8 AM the next day as they should be more easily able to get into the community at that time.

We are signed up for Informed Delivery also and find it accurate enough to be useful. Several years ago my elderly father mailed us a substantial check, and the envelope showed up on our ID email but didn’t arrive that day. When it didn’t arrive the next day, either, we used the ID website to report it as missing, and two days later it finally arrived. All our mail is processed through the Houston distribution center, which has had serious problems with lost and stolen mail. We’ll never know whether my dad’s check would have been delivered without having ID to report it missing, but in any case I’m glad we get those emails. (And we finally convinced my dad that he could send us money via Zelle.)

We have used informed delivery for years and we like it. We have a locked box and I grab the mail every few days unless there is something important.

I could see where it might not be as useful for someone who keeps an eye out for the postman each day and still has individual home delivery.

I do not. Several people in my local neighborhood Facebook group call it "Informed Frustration" because the accuracy is questionable. It shows a mix of stuff that has already been delivered, with items that did arrive that day, with items that may not show up for days.

I just recently signed up for informed delivery and I did have one thing that was supposed to be delivered not be delivered until the next day.

Yeah, not unusual. That's why every ID message says, "Mail may arrive several days after you receive the notification. Please allow up to a week for delivery before reporting missing mail."

Just talked to the letter carrier who delivered my mail today (530pm). He had no specific information about what happened. He is not my regular letter carrier. He said that Monday WAS a "Postal Holiday" but anymore because of their contracts with Amazon and the like there are staff on duty Sundays and Holidays. He said if a route was not run, or only partially serviced, it would not be out of the question for it to be run when someone was available, even if it was a Sunday or a holiday.

I signed up. Got my first notification today. One item coming. One item arrived. NOT the item shown. Once again a DIFFERENT letter carrier, she said she hasn't done this route in 2 years. She just laughed when I told her I had signed up for Informed Delivery and this was not the item indicated. She said they can only deliver what is in the route tray when they load the truck.

Honestly this sounds like this is not the service for you. It's very helpful for busy folks.
But I think you might be much happier with watching for your letter carrier and saying hello occasionally.

Well, I have met four different letter carriers this week.

Day Two of Informed Delivery:
No e-mail.
Received no mail, not even the letter that was SUPPOSED to be delivered yesterday.
I am sensing why my neighbors have said Informed Delivery isn't very well informed.

I don't know that the mail piece that wasn't delivered would show up again.

I am also not sure if you get an email if you don't have anything to be delivered. I didn't get an email today either but it is not uncommon for me to go days without getting mail.

Certainly an interesting time. I know people who rarely check their mail then get caught because they sudden check and they have a Jury Summons, or letter from the IRS that should have been dealt with sooner.

As I recall, sometimes it will show up on ID again and sometimes it won't. Probably depends on whether it goes through another scan enroute.

No, you don't get an ID email if there's no mail expected for delivery that day. Except when sometimes USPS wants to promote something, so they'll use ID to send that message.
