Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

I apologize if a lot of questions about the 10K and corrals have already have been asked. But I'm just curious as to how many 10K corrals there usually are, and approximately how much time there is between releases. If my Lumiere bib is in the low 23000s (on the cusp of F and G for the half based on Dark Side), any guesses where that might put me for the 10K?

So looks like the 5k bibs are 40,000's.

Hoping that a 401xx is A - I have a W&D festival event at 9am that morning, so just want to go out to AK, smash the run, shower, and head to Epcot (am in an Epcot resort which helps, no waiting for transport). I got to be in A for Jingle Jungle and Avengers 5K's last year and it made it so much easier to run at my own pace.

Me too. I am 406xx and I also have a 9:15 W&D event. Also staying at Epcot resort. I am driving to/from race so I don't have to wait for buses.

I think we should be okay. The 6:30 start time threw me a bit, I had assumed it was earlier like the other races, but my own fault for not checking first.

Are you doing the "What's cooking with..."?

Hardest part is going to be managing what to eat post run and not get too full before brunch!

Hmmm found my Bib#! low 1800's for the 1/2 only- first time Run DIS'er here- any guesses on corral?? My BFF is running with me and she's much faster- she's gonna have to come back to my corral with me and I'm hoping we're not back too far!!

Yes we are doing the brunch with Alex G. I also didn't double check the time. I think we will be fine. Are you going to wear your medal? I am usually hesitant to wear the 5k medals however I have only run 5k and 10ks, however now they are real medals not rubber ones I might feel different.

I splurged and am doing the VIP tour that day - which includes the brunch (and you get to cut the line at Frozen and Soarin' - which is worth the price alone!). I am planning on taking my medal with me and getting some pics, but not sure if I'll wear it.

I'm curious as to how many people are registered for the half compared to the other halfs at WDW. The half bib numbers seem to go up to just below 8000. The corral breakdowns for the half marathons usually go up to 14000. Seems like maybe they're still keeping this race a smaller one than others. Between 8000 or so half bibs and around 7000 challenge bibs, that's 15000 runners. Don't Marathon Weekend/Princess have more around 20,000?

THANK YOU! We were just going to wait for the waiver release, but with this, and the Dark Side corral data, we have found DW!
Now, about that course...
Actually- the 10k seems nice to us. The Half could be better, but we will get to see parts we never did before. But let's hope they don't have to shorten it for any reason, as that looks harder/impossible compared to the old course.
I thought that too. If this was last year's course, they might not have been able to let us run. They probably wouldn't have had the correct roads closed that would have allowed us to get to Epcot. Really hoping for no significant weather issues this year.

My understanding is that it is usually the smaller of the races - hence why it is so hard to get a bib. Last year there was about 14,000 or so runners from memory for the half.

So, perhaps a silly question, since now we can see our Bib #s, do we have to wait until we pick up our actual Bibs to see our corral placement, or will that be released somehow before hand? I thought it was what we were all waiting to see on the waiver, or are we just guessing based on Dark Side?

It's around 10 minutes between corrals for the 10k usually.

RunDisney usually puts out a corral chart for the half & challenge (on their site right by where they put the waiver link) so you can see what corral your bib # puts you in. For 10k & 5k you have to wait till you get your bib. Hopefully the links will show up on RunDisney this week see the link to waivers was leaked.

3 weeks till the half!!! How's everyone's training? Mine is going pretty well, besides a few nagging pains my 13 Friday was fine so plan on around 10-11 next Friday and then 7-8 the weekend before..I think for long runs. Breaking in a new pair of shoes since I like to bring 2 and one of mine is on the cusp of being used up, so need to make sure to get a few more runs in them.

I have my 5k & 10k plan--stop for as many characters/photo ops without crazy long lines & not bust out any crazy fast paces.
For the Half I have plans like A-Z.....I'll decide day off & it may change while running, ha!Right now it's to run for time & not stop at all, we'll see if that holds out.

Anyone else have race strategies figured out?

That sounds fantastic! Good for you!

As this is my first RD race, I don't really have a plan. I too intend to stop for as many characters as possible along the 10K route, but I guess I'm basically going to see how things go during the 1/2.

Thanks for the 10K info everyone!

Re: race strategies, I don't really have a set plan, but I'd like to not get caught up in worrying about time and enjoy the atmosphere, especially for the 10K. Take in the sights and not push too hard. I'd love to stop for a couple characters, but the idea of stopping and standing in a line for a few minutes is hard for me. So we'll have to see who is out, and it would probably have to be a really special character. I think I'll be more likely to stop for quick scenery pictures instead.

The plan for the half will be to take it slow and same thing, take in the atmosphere.

I am getting so excited!! After last year's disappointment, I feel so grateful to be able to be going back this year and hopefully getting my RunDisney redemption and the true race experience! I can't believe we're 3 weeks away!!

I ran the Hershey Half today. It was a good race for me, especially compared to the last two halves I ran! (Although that's not hard to do!) I had some shooting pains in the back of my ankles around mile 9. Stopped to stretch my calves twice. Before that I was on a PR pace, but alas, I came in just over 3 hours. I had really wanted to be under 3. My body is just not loving all this running right now I guess. Or maybe it just needs more healing time that I'm not giving it. On the plus side, my knees didn't hurt at all during the run! The course was fun! It was hilly, but not as bad as the Diva course was. And honestly, besides Disney races it's probably my favorite! There was amazing crowd support. Loved running through the park and then through the Milton Hershey school. I would definitely do this race again!

I don't know if we have a plan for the races yet. We normally say we'll take in atmosphere and grab a few photos if anyone jumps out at us. For the Enchanted 10K Princess weekend we waiting 10 minutes for Lumiere and Cogsworth. And it was worth every minute! Princess Half we did a castle shot and the Princes. (I had to have a selfie with Prince Eric!) I would imagine that we'll just keep trucking unless we see someone we really want a picture with. But if I have to drop back with BFF since her bib is so high then we probably won't stop.

I ran a 10K today. at Tarara winery @lovingeire. (Congrats on your Hershey finish!) much less hilly than diva!!

I felt good. No pain. Good pace!

I'm curious how others pace 10K compared to half? I was 2+ min/mi slower in half. I'm assuming bc of distance and the hills sucked...but curious how others run in comparison. should I try to maintain my 10K pace, which I think I could do if it's flat and my knee cooperates or should I expect to slow down? Maybe there are too many factors? Disney is likely different bc of stopping for pics or if you're running a challenge.

Sorry so winded. Just thought I'd ask.

For Star Wars Dark Side half marathon, bib 1800 was in corral D, so you can assume that for now.

@lovingeire Congrats on the Hershey Half! Great that you had no knee pain. It sounds like a fun race and I saw the awesome medal on Instagram! I'm jealous that you got a photo op with Lumiere and Cogsworth at Princess! That would be a serious contender for a stop if they're out at W&D. I feel like Lumiere would be a post-race photo op though rather than on course since he's the namesake of the Challenge. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that's what they did with Dopey during Marathon Weekend. Sadly that means he'd probably have a massive line.

@TeeterTots Congrats on a pain-free race for you as well! I don't really have a good idea of how my half marathon race pace compares to 10K, since I've only done one. It was a hot day and I had some pain from blistering feet during the second half, so I walked a lot during those miles. I finished with a pace about 2 minutes per mile slower than 10K. Hoping for better during W&D.

For Star Wars Dark Side half marathon, bib 1800 was in corral D, so you can assume that for now.
It will be interesting to see how the corrals break down for this, since Dark Side non-Challenge half bibs went up to the 14000s, while W&D is only about 8000. It seems to be about the same number of Challenge bibs. Corrals went up to L for Dark Side, so with about 6000 fewer runners, I wonder if it will be fewer corrals or fewer non-challenge half runners in each corral. Or if the later corrals will be Challenge only.
