Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

Thank you! I wasn't sure if I should do 10-12 miles or not, but I will! We'll be arriving at Disney 10/31 so should I just run Tuesday and Thursday my regular 3-4 miles? Thank you again! I'm new at this and just learning as I go!
Yeah, I think whatever maintenance runs you do during the week would probably be fine!

Check out Galloway's Wine & Dine training plan, that may give you better guidance than I can. :) I'm jealous you'll be there so early!

Figured I would give you all an update - no stress fracture! There is a nasty tear though in the Peroneus Brevis/Superior Extensor which well sucks. Still pretty much going to have immobilization for the month of October & Wine & Dine is out as a serious race but after that - I should be good to go.
I'm sorry :( But also yay for a solid diagnosis! I had a very bad tear in the same tendon some 30 years ago.. I did not follow directions to let it heal properly and I'm paying the price all these years later with chronic tendinitis. So don't be me - take care and heal it up right! :thumbsup2

I have to lay my shirt out on a bed and put the bib on with the dots BEFORE putting the shirt on. It's way too hard to put the shirt on first. Be very careful when moving the magnets around, they are so strong that they can pull on your shirt (I didn't realize this the first time I used them and ruined a shirt - also INB ).

There's a nub on each dot and you line that up with the hole in the bib. If you line it up just right, it'll stay put.

@FFigawi may have more input - he's the one that recommended RaceDots to me. :)

I'm with you there. I usually lay the shirt out on a bed and "install" the bib and dots that way. Where I run into difficulty is then putting the shirt on. The magnets always seem to fold the bib over on itself and stick to each other. Then it's like trying to get out of a strait jacket trying to get things back in place.

My best tip for Race Dots is to apply each one carefully from a different direction. They tend to be attracted to each other which makes moving them past each other to get to another corner of the bib tricky. Also, be very careful moving your shirt around once they are all attached. If you get them too close to each other, they might join up and you'll have to carefully pull them apart or start all over again.

I was considering getting these, but reading here has made me wonder if it's worth it -- sounds like maybe just a different kind of trouble than pins! For those who have used them, do you really recommend?

Yes. I don't want pinholes in my shirts. :)

From reading all the posts on these, I have come to the conclusion I am inept at using pins! I seriously have to redo them like 3x each. I prefer tight fitted tops when running so if I put the pins on first I would definitely scrape or stab myself (super pretty scene probably). My only other concern, is would the nub leave an indent on my nice running material tops...

Did my 8 mile "I can officially finish the race ok now" run today. All went well except for my IT band feeling very tight around mile 7. I havent had problems with them since 2014 and TOT! I do usually wear my IT strap on runs over 10k as a precaution, except during dark side when I forgot it. but today I realized it was so loose it wasn't doing much more than looking like an accessory. So, I tightened it correctly and low and behold, my other leg IT started feeling tight .25 mile after. Super fun. I foam rolled and it feels ok now. I have been slacking on my leg exercises and I am pretty sure that was a cause back at TOT. But, I have only slacked for a week or two...so right now I am just going to stick to running no more than 4 mile runs next week. Hope for the best after that. I had 9 next up, so I guess in a couple of weeks I will try it and just stop if it feels tight again. Completely not worth wrecking it and opening that can of worms again!

I really do recommend them. It takes time to figure out your best way to get them on, but once you do, you'll like using them.

Why can't they just make the numbers super sticky - I did a 5k Pretty Muddy Cancer run the other week and the number was so sticky managed to stay on all the way round.

It even survived being fully submerged in a bog of muddy water - I've added a gratuitous picture of my achievement, but it also show that the number stayed on throughout.

Do you mind me asking what kind of IT strap you use? I'm thinking about trying it out for my 10K in a few weeks to see how I like it. Thanks!

I like to save my bibs, though -- could you save these somehow??

@Ariel484 and @FFigawi I needed to order a new back for one of my race dots (the metal sheathing has come off of one of my backs) and saw that the Race Dots folks now have a silicone "template" aid for installing them. I ordered one and will let you know how it works. I'd really like to go back to them if I can get them to reliably and consistently install without the use of four letter words. Once they're on, they're great!

Whoa! I hadn't seen that thing, it looks crazy!

It took me a second to figure out how it works, but it definitely seems like it could be helpful and prevent some headaches. I maybe have to get one, thanks for the tip! :scratchin

I pretty much just went to my local running shop and asked for one. They had them behind the counter. I want to say a generic brand? I'd recommend them wholeheartedly! Here is a photo:

Very interesting, but it doesn't seem to be a template (i.e. not something you use just to install the RaceDots). Rather, it appears that the silicone thing stays with you (under your shirt against your skin). I'm not sure I would like that.
