Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

Reading that people who deferred last year's race to this year's have NOT been able to register yet...they should have gotten registration links emailed to them on Tuesday, 2/29.

I don't think I like the sounds of this! Surely, this race weekend will not be cancelled all together. I am planning this as my C2C for 2016 (along with the DLH) and there is not another WDW race available for me to register for. We have also already booked our resort renting DVC points so we will be there regardless. Was really hopeful to hear something out of RD today at noon. I do feel for all of you trying to register tomorrow without any information.

I ran the half of a half last year and am excited (and nervous... about the registration part) to sign up this year tomorrow at noon. But this "announcement" crap is killing me!!! I keep trying to put it aside and do some actual work, but five minutes later, I find myself refreshing the rD site, DisBoards, FB....

UPDATE (?): Just read that someone called runDisney and they stated that deferrals will go out next week. But that person didn't ask about early registration.

Is it possible they'll push registration back?!

Yeah... someone else posted on FB they called to see how much it was and was told it won't be posted till tomorrow at noon, really?!?!?!

I will lose it! This is ridiculous enough as it is! At least put out an email letting everyone know what the deal is at this point.. Geez...

They told me that late last week when I called. I mean, really...it's not like they don't know how much it'll cost. :rolleyes2

Not that it's going to do anything, but I'm calling them again. This is ridiculous.

I hope they don't delay registration. I've had an approved personal day from work set in stone for like 2 months now darn it!!! This really is torture.

Called and got the same answer as @cavepig posted above - no prices until registration opens. So then I was like, "okay, well can you tell me when the 5K is happening?" And then I waited for her to click around on runDisney.com and she was like, "unfortunately there is no date listed for the 5K."

So I admit - I got a little rude, and was just like, "are you actually with runDisney, or is this more of a general Guest Services department?" and she said they are NOT runDisney, but they "help" with calls and whatnot. So it's useless to call them, because all they will do is look at the website (when she told me she was looking on the website I was like, "yes, I just looked, there's nothing there.").

And I said, "...I'm sorry, but do you see how ridiculous this is? I realize this isn't your fault, but it's pretty hard to plan things when I don't even know the date that it's happening."

And I was met with silence...long enough that I thought maybe the call was disconnected, so I just said, "well, thanks for your help." And the person WAS on the other end, and she goes, "have a magical day!" I either stunned her into silence or she wasn't trained on how to response to what I said.

I feel bad, because I'm sure they are just staffing this call center with CPs or something, but it's INCREDIBLY frustrating to have next to no information about this. People have taken personal days, booked flights, etc...and these races are expensive. It's a lot of money to set aside. It's just insane what they are doing.

This is NUTS. I'm used to runDisney being a little "off" with stuff, but this is a new level of ridiculousness. So if the new policy is not to post prices until registration opens, you wind up with a ton of people jumping on registration just to see what the price is, even if they have no intention of registering. Yes, THAT should help with the server overloads of past registrations!

I got the same sort of run-around when trying to confirm the date for pre-registration. I called because when I clicked on the link that rD had on their site to LEARN MORE about early registration, it told me I needed to link my pass and then it took me to a “Someone Ate The Page” screen. After talking with multiple people, I finally ended up with someone who seemed to be with runDisney. I was told at that point that they weren’t sure when early registration would open yet. I thanked him and just said that I was nervous because I’ve heard of people missing out because things weren’t linked properly. He then informed me that they are going to be going away from providing a page with a link and sending out emails to passholders instead, since the system was being abused. Magically, the next day, the page with the dates worked, but just an FYI for you AP holders out there.

What if there's a huge price increase (i.e. Dumbo jumping up $30 from last year to this year)? Then you have to decide right then in that moment whether or not you're priced out.

Or if they add the 10K/challenge and we don't know until noon tomorrow...then you have seconds to decide right when the registration page pops up what you want to actually register for. It's just...well, ridiculous really is the best word.

I was going to ask if this is the new way they're going to do things going forward, but since they couldn't answer any of my other questions, I didn't bother.

Just seems a little backwards for a place like Disney...."just do some research and plan ahead and your trip will be magical"......to make it nearly impossible for anyone to do just that. Research and plan. :(

You're not alone. Today is my day off and I really should be doing housework and grocery shopping. But every time I try to do something I am back on my phone checking everything for some sort of update. I have never been so anxious about registering for a race...this is insane. I don't want to have to wait until noon tomorrow...I would like to have some sort of idea of how much I will need to be spending tomorrow. Hubby definitely wants to do the half...then if they have a 10k I will do that and my son will run the kids races, but then if they don't we'll all do the 5k together...but then there's the after party. Man I hate not being able to plan for things!

At least we know we are not alone in our constant checking....I don't think my real world friends would understand at all! Interesting on if they do send emails to passholders, how would that work if you have multiple AP on one Disney account/email? Oh the questions....

It would be nice if they locked down the abuse of the early AP registration link, but I can't see them actually doing it. They can't even keep their own website up-to-date...

This just changed
Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend at Walt Disney World

Event Dates: November 4-5, 2016
General Registration: March 22, 2016 @ 12:00 PM EST
Passholder Early Registration: March 15, 2016 @ 12:00 PM EST

Watching the FB groups and there are a lot of folks who called and got the "news posted at noon tomorrow" reports.

One CM even said- and the poster said it was unprompted- "the schedules and prices are being finalized, you'll get the deferral link next week."

It makes me think that things are changing for sure. That maybe early reg is being pushed back.

The only thing I can say in rD defense is that they don't have a ton of say on things when it comes down to it. If for the good of WDW the race needs to be moved or changed times or whatever... it will be. I've been told before that they literally get told what's what often at the last moment and life is chaotic for them.

It doesn't mean they couldn't give some kind of freakin communication IMO. A tweet saying - registration is still on, prices at noon! or something. But sometimes it's not entirely rD fault. However, most things that go wrong are- lol. Like misspelling inaugural on medals and lanyards and bibs.
