Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

So on the marathon discussion they were talking about goals...

Well, Wine & dine is just about 6 months away anyone have any goals yet?

For me
1. I have a half time goal, it may be lofty, but 6 months out I figured think big, right?! PR at Disney, crazy idea?!?
2. 5k & 10k get some character photos but no specific time goal yet.

Of course get injury free & stay that way and HAVE FUN! Anyone else want to share if you are making goals yet? 6 months out isn't too early is it?

You are brave!! :) I think I'd need a really solid PoT to set this type of goal. And given how far ahead those need to be submitted, I don't think I'll aim quite so high this time. Not brave enough!

My goal... ... right now I am actually aiming to TRY for a better PoT just to not feel the congestion I did in SWDS.

Beyond that, honestly, just to stay healthy throughout training and race and have fun!! :-)

Copying and pasting from the January thread...

My goal is to stick to training as well as possible (running, lifting and yoga) and not re-injure myself. And to really appreciate each successful run completed. And to have fun during the races. :) No time goals.

In addition, Mr. Ariel484 will also be doing the 10K - his first - so that should be really fun. Really looking forward to it. :)

I don't have another race till wine & dine, so using my Disneyland half time for POT & all my running energy is going to thinking and planning for wine & dine. Good luck on getting your POT @MickeyMinnieMom !!!! I don't even know what corrals normally are for wine & dine, but yeah anything to avoid congestion is good.

@Ariel484 that will be fun with your husband. I should say I'm excited to do the 5k with my niece and nephew, but I doubt I'll run with either of them for fearing of tripping as I would get so caught up in watching them, although they are little speed monsters so who knows how that will go. and yes no re-injuring!!! I totally get it as everyday I feel closer to normal.

I haven't set any concrete goals yet. I am running a 10-miler this Sunday in hopes of getting a more favorable POT and moving up in the corrals. Otherwise, last year was my first RunDisney event, so I'm just hoping to have two good races that don't get shortened. Since I'm doing the challenge, I'll probably try to get a bunch of pictures during the 10k so that I don't feel as tempted to stop during the half. Last year my heart just wasn't in it with the late start and shortened course. I just wanted to be done!

I'm also hoping to complete a training cycle without getting some sort of injury, but in 6 years of running I have yet to accomplish that goal. :crutches:

Considering the Wine and Dine will be my first race in a few years and the first challenge in just as long I'm just hoping things go well and my knee which tends to be a bit sensitive survives. I'd love to have a personal best since I've been eating better and what not, but I'm not terribly worried about any of that. These are all warm ups for my ultimate goal, which is Dopey in 2018!

Maybe, but I'm thinking of going for it, too! I plan to train for a potential PR, anyway - after that it'll be dependent on how I feel, weather, crowding, but I want to be ready to run well in case it all lines up neatly for me :)

my main goal for wine and dine is to stay injury free while training !!! I had some IT/knee issues when i started the longer runs when getting ready for dopey this past january . And my seconf goal is to PR my half (disney half) My half for marathon weekend was 2:20 so Im aiming for a sub 2 hour half !!

any idea when rundisney will put out the training schedules for the race weekend ? I used them to plan my runs and when to start my training

Probably a week or so before the plan begins (late June/early July for the challenge and half marathon, I would think) - but you could look back at any of the other plans that are available and just change the dates on them. That's pretty much all runDisney does when they post new plans. :)

i had asked about the king size beds at the all stars and i was told they are special request for wheelchair access , and not available to regular request

Hmmm...I've never heard that. Of course the "always well informed cast members" never mentioned it, and actually pushed for me to put in the request. To be honest, pretty much everything on site was sold out that weekend last year so it doesn't surprise me they couldn't honor a request, for whatever reason.

I haven't really thought about goals yet. I haven't run a half in under 3 though so I think that would be good. I think I'll see as I get closer. I have two more halves in the fall. Tomorrow I run our local 10K, which I'll use for POT and I'm hoping to PR that to have a better POT from last years. Fingers crossed and all out tomorrow!

I plan to pr the half. It'll be my first half. :D

I also plan to enjoy the atmosphere and get photos of the lines aren't too long. I'll get impatient.

Hoping to strength train some issues away over the next few months before starting the half training in August. Planning to keep my mileage from the 12k up by running 4-6 miles most Saturdays. Hoping I can skip the early weeks of the plan this way.

I'm also trying to decide, the 10k I did was 1:14:10 which McMillan estimates at a 2:45:21 half. With the cutoff being at 2:45 so they probably won't even look at my time, would it be worth trying to find an actual flat 10k unlike the 1st one or the hilly 12k I did, to try and shave the 22 seconds off I would need to?

My goal is to relax my type A personality to actually enjoy the whole "Disney experience" of this race and not just rush through it aiming for a PR time. I am super competitive with myself, so for me this is an incredibly lofty (near impossible) goal.

I don't really have specific goals for Wine and Dine. But I'm going to try to not worry about time and enjoy the experience. I'd like to stop for some pictures on the course, but it's so hard for me to stop in the middle of a race, even if it's just for a couple minutes. So I'd like to not think about that and just enjoy the atmosphere.

My other "goal" is out of my control. I'd like to run the full races (doing the Lumiere Challenge) and not have any course shortening due to weather! I'm still bitter over 2015, even though I obviously know it's nobody's fault. Just angry that it was my first RunDisney event and I didn't get a true experience. Hoping that changes this year.

When you registered did you put in that your estimated finish time was over 2:45? If you did, the first thing I'd do is go in and try to change your registration details to put under 2:45 and submit the proof of time from the 10K. If you put under 2:45, hopefully they'll look at it. But it can't hurt to submit something either way. And if you can find one and are interested, it wouldn't hurt either to try to find another 10K before the deadline.

RD says they will check with 2:40 and then the next option is 2:45 which I have. I'll see what I can find, I had thought I'd be good because of the 3 hour before but I don't know how crowded it could get. Or if i just try for the front right so I can go and stay out of the way for those going past me :) Because it doesn't matter where you start you will be passed and you will pass people.

If you put 2:40 and submit the 1:14 10k I would think they would look at it because technically it's not spitting out an estimated time when you put that 10k in for you to see, but who really knows if/how well they check. If finding another 10k is easy and you know you can improve than I would do it, but if it feels like a chore doing it then I wouldn't. My POT is never the same as my estimated anyway so they don't have to match.

Enjoy reading other's goals! Fun to hear other's want a PR or just to keep if fun..here's to a good 6 months of training to you all!

Yes @*DisneyDreamer here's to good weather, hopefully being morning, thunderstorms will be less likely! Last year would have been very frustrating so hope you get your chance at the full experience this year.

Good luck @lovingeire on your 10k, just imagine Mickey out there cheering you on!!

The past couple of races I've done, I've found Run Disney to be slightly more generous than McMillan. My 10k POT is 1:11:25. McMillan estimates that as a 2:39 half, but when I submitted it to RunDisney they estimate my half finish as 2:37.

Disney may estimate you at 2:44 or 2:43. That being said, if you can find a race and likely get a better time, then I'd do it. I had a big time difference in 2 different races 2 weeks apart. That second race moved me into the next corral.

Can you still update your proof of time multiple times? For Princess I entered one time and then decided to do another race, went back in and changed it. I know they aren't using that submission system anymore, and Run Disney changes stuff constantly, but being able to update your proof of time is a nice feature if its still an option.

No specific time goal, but I would like to keep it under the 16 min pace WiTH character & other photo stops. But now that I think about it, I don't want to just finish, I want to finish feeling Strong. I felt that way after my second half, but not my first half, or first challenge. I want to finish with enough energy to go to the after party. (I crashed after Dark side challenge, but I had not been feeling well the week before and not sure how much that was a factor).

For the race, I want to have fun! Enjoy the atmosphere, going through the parks (& resorts), take some photos, meet some characters.

I'd love to get a lower POT to submit, so I'm looking at 10ks in June or possibly July. I would like to be in a higher corral for shorter lines and less crowding, but also to finish a little earlier if its hot and sunny. Those later miles on the highway during Princess and Dark Side when the sun is up and blaring down are Tough for me, both mentally and physically. Hopefully being closer to the end of summer will help with that.

I do run/walk intervals and I run for fun, but I'd still like to make some improvement in my pace. I really need to be more consistent in getting out and running at least 3x week, 4x closer to the race. More back to back runs, because they are definitely tougher for me than having a rest day in between.

And most important no injuries, and for once, NOT get sick the week or two before the race. :headache:

Does anyone know where you can view pictures of the merchandise that is for sale when you sign up for a race?
I just bought the Tervis Wine Goblet and Hat combo (I really just wanted the Tervis) I have no idea what it is going to look like. I hope I like it! LOL!
