Official Wine and Dine 2016 thread

"They" say running slower on long runs pays off...you'll have to let us know how you do on the 18th!

I hope they are but yeah wish they would list it for picking evening parks. We tend to usually use our fastpasses in the am so our evening park is more on the fly since we most always hop. We saw them in Jan but that was the old version so we really want to see the new hyped up version.

I hope so! They were really good fireworks, though I haven't seen the new version.

It's weird - but for me I think the music is what really gets me excited for SW in general, it just sets the tone. And I really preferred the compilation from the first fireworks. And the dialogue. The new effects are great, but I think they could add the dialogue and say, more Vader breathe! That would really, really wow.

My right leg flares up with a shin splint on & off, seems to happen whenever I have my laces too tight and it presses into the top of my foot, so how you you mention the 2 socks thing could be the reason, too much pressure on the top of your foot. I have Zensah calf sleeves I wear after I run to help it and then use Arnicare on it a few times a day along with stretches. Hope you get it feeling better soon.

Laces are often overlooked, and I have noticed a big difference. I bought a new pair of my mizunos, same ones but new edition. The top lace is slightly higher on the ankle and it changes my stride unless I get it just right.

just so you guys know... to a fairly inexperienced runner... you guys seem like the smartest people that ever walked the earth lol

Perhaps we are...muahaha :smooth:

Totally off-topic, but do the runDisney 1/2 marathons each have their own unique 13.1 car magnet? Or is there just a generic one size fits all runDisney one they offer at all of the race weekends?

They usually sell a race specific one at the expo, so yes unique.

When I first started with these shoes I was having pains and I felt it was from them being too tight. I loosened them up and I was good to go. I try and just barely tie them enough that they wont come undone, because they dont loosen up from use at all, so they keep getting a little tighter each time until I manually loosen them. This is where I got the idea that the second pair of socks were hurting me, because now there was a little less flexibility in my foot, and the shoe was tighter. I tried running 1 mile to get back into it and test my shins last night (with 1 pair of socks). There was some soreness as I hit sometimes, but all in all pretty good. No pain today.

I dont think I hit very loudly, but a lot of that may be from hitting on the outside and then going flat.

Good stuff. I may make a trip to the store today and look for these. It would be much easier than 2 pair, thats for sure!

Road Runner has their shoes divided on the wall between neutral, over and under or whatever the terms are :) I'm neutral so that's the only one's I look at. But if you know you are an over-pronator I would only look at the one's in that section on the wall or on their site. I also know that not all fit experts are the same, my chiropractor uses the same Road Runner and suggested who to use. Go in with the shoes you have an, explain what you were told and what has happened. They should still have your test on file, at least that's my understanding. My store is great to work with, I've returned a ton of socks.

As for the socks, not sure if it's the issues, but I have a huge problem with seams and my little toes, so I started wearing my socks inside out because then the seams don't rub my toes. Found Wigwam socks at Target, one of their one off let's sell these for a few months, and they don't have seams! They are the only brand I've found that don't have seams. Generally people understand why when I tell them I wear my socks inside out, but I have gotten some weird looks. You do need to be careful of the type of socks you choose to wear inside out, I've found the ones that have more cushion, or what I call, loose thread nubs, when worn inside out will cause odd rubbing or movement of your foot, think of how your bare foot moves on the carpet, so I stay away from something with too much of that or too long of a pile, to steal from carpets again.

You might give this a shot and see if it helps along with a different pair of shoes.

ETA - I have a couple pairs of Coolmesh II socks, they are dual layer, like a sock inside a sock, but aren't thick, to help prevent blisters. These might be a better route than 2 pairs of socks. I still wear these inside out :)

Unfortunately... thats how I ended up with these shoes! lol
Ugh, sorry - been there, done that, unfortunately. You may want to try the video gait analysis on runningwarehouse.com - I've heard very good things about it!

What do these mean and which should I be looking at?

Shoe Type:

Neutral (27)
Stability (20)
Motion Control (6)

Shoe Cushion Levels:
Level 3 Neutral (2)
Level 3 Stability (1)
Level 4 Neutral (15)
Level 4 Stability (11)
Level 5 Neutral (6)
Level 5 Stability (11)

Neutral: no elements to guide or control foot motion - generally (but not always) a shoe for folks with normal pronation or who over-supinate (roll out).
Stability: elements to help prevent over-pronation, to guide foot from heelstrike to toe-off without rolling in too much.
Motion Control: for sever over-pronation - maximum stability elements to prevent excess movement

The cushion levels, I imagine, are just that; how much cushion is built into the shoe. Some folks prefer less cushion, more ground feel, while others like to feel like they're running on pillows, and plenty are somewhere in the middle.

Im the severe over-pronator who wants to run on pillows! Ill see what I can find! Thanks for connecting more dots.

What I have read is over-pronators can run in Neutral shoes. We all pronate somewhat, it's the natural roll of your foot. Have you had pain on the side of your leg from rolling in too much, if you haven't then your shoe type might not be the problem. Shin splints can come from also the surface you run on, overuse from too many miles or speed to quick, as well pressure on your foot (double socks...)

My sister-in-law was told she was a severe over-pronator too, got put in some stability shoes, but in the long run didn't care for them and is back in her Brooks Glycerin - Neutral shoes. Seems a lot of people get put in stability shoes so just be careful if you switch as stability shoes can also lead to injuries.

I run in Asics Nimbus like you are but I under-pronate some on my right foot (run on outside of my foot) so the Neutral shoe is for me & then I have high arches so want all the cushion the other benefit of Nimbus. My shin splint comes from laces too tight as well as if I over do it on mileage.

Thats actually the pair that came up when I was plugging in everything I needed on a website yesterday! So you recommending this makes me feel really good about those. Hopefully they come in extra wide.

Look into the Asics Kayano. They're very plush and offer great support for pronation and stability control.

I have the high arches too... I dont think I was meant to run.. haha.. but I love it so running is stuck with me now :p

I had the same problem with those laces. I may not have a clue what I am doing but I do feel like I am in pretty good tune with what my legs and feet do not like most of the time.

If you have high arches I can't recommend enough that you go to a local running store and get inserts done for your shoes. I got mine at road runner, I think they were about 70. I wish I could make them fit all my shoes but running with actual arch support is so much better. And I can swap them between shoes.

I went to the running store here to get new socks to replace the double pair option, which I think will work great going by the looks of them. She talked to me about the arches, but that store is closing and didnt have my size. After about 2 miles, I always feel something that feels like cracked plastic under the middle of my right foot. Its not cracked plastic but it feels like the shoe broke. It doesnt seem to last long but that made me wonder about the arches.

Awesome!!! So my next newbie question is are the magnets usually gone by Day 2 of the Expo?
Maybe & Maybe not...it's hard to tell. Magnets have sold out in day one for some races I know. But I know the abstract shaped magnets (not Mickey ear shaped ones) were at outlet stores for marathon weekend after, so those didn't sell out. Darkside weekend I think magnets were selling out as people were upset by the time they got there they were gone. So, yeah hard to tell, but magnets are popular items.

Question about the post-race party...

Apologies if this has already been asked... per rD's site, the party is 10P-1A. Per WDW website Epcot closes at 9P. I realize that's a "real" close of some time after Illuminations ends, but it seems odd to have a 1hr gap btwn park closure and the party. So if we're already in Epcot that day, we just hang around waiting for the party to begin? Is there something I'm missing, or does that sound right?

I hadn't really looked at the times, that is kind of strange & will be kind of annoying if there is a gap of nothing open. I'm sure we'll be there early to watch Illuminations too.

Party ticket holders can get in beginning at 8 pm without having separate passes. I expect it will be like the Halloween or Christmas parties at MK. Party goers will be given a wrist band that allows them to stay in the park, and everybody without wristbands will be asked to leave after Illuminations is over. Everything will be operational between 9 and 10.
