Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

I'm looking to get a Star Wars game for my geeky boyfriend's birthday. He normally plays strictly computer games, but gladly plays with us on the Wii.

What do you think is the best Star Wars game for the Wii? I'm torn. The light saber one seems cool because 2 people can fight, but the other one (I can't remember the name) seems more along the lines of the computer games he normally plays.

I know... I can go on IGN, but I would like some input from my fellow DIS'ers!

I think Lego Star Wars is by far the best SW game on the Wii. I would stay away from Lightsaber Duel, cuz there isn't much to it.

Force Unleashed is your other, more adult option. Most people have been very dissapointed in it. I agree, it's much more like PC games and definitely more adult, but I still think Lego is much more fun for all ages and just a better game overall.

What's the best way to find a Wii?
Most retailers will get shipments of Wiis all week that they will save for Sunday, because that's when their ads with the system in them are released. Pay special attention to Sunday ads that say that the store will guarentee "x consoles per store."

Don't forget your smaller gaming stores like Game Stop and Game Crazy. They will put systems they get durning the week out when they get them, because they usually don't advertise on Sunday.

Would this be the best strategy to use to find a Wii Fit right now?

After all the great reviews, I think that we missed the boat by not getting one for Christmas and now I am looking for one.

Thanks

I have a few questions I hope someone can help me with.

Last weekend we were playing GH III a lot and the wii froze up a few times. I figured it got to hot. But now this morning, we have only had it on about 20 minutes on a different game, and it froze. We did get that charger from itrimming for $9, and it is pluged into the wii,if that could be making a difference. Any ideas on what is going on with it?

Next, on Lego indiana jones, I have put in the codes for the parcels(treaure x10, ect) but everytime we play, I have to go turn them on. Is there anyway to make them stay on?

Also, we have Lego indiana jones and Lego batman, and we LOVE them. I was wondering about Lego star wars. We don't really have an interest in star wars, but would we like the game anyway because it is lego?

Thanks for any help.

Yes, that is the best strategy all of the time.
The biggest problem you face is that most large retailers do inventory after the begining of the year and don't receive as much stock. You might have more luck at Game Stop/Crazy.

They aren't as hard to find as they used to be, you'll be fine.

Your Wii should NEVER get too hot. It has a fan. Just ensure that the console is completely open to air. It should be in it's holder, so that air can circulate to almost every side with nothing blocking it.

What charger did you get that plugs into the Wii? Do you mean you have a wiimote charger? That definitely would not effect the console.

I think you need to call Nintendo. They have great customer service.

Yes, I think you have to turn them on every single time. DH does this with Lego Batman.

Yes. Lego SW is the original Lego game and it's extremely fun. You definitely should have at least some understanding of SW--and have seen the movies though.

Thanks for any help.

Resonses in Red.

Thanks for your reply. Is there any reason for it to freeze up? Both games it has done it on are new.

Not that I can think of with new games. www.nintendo.com has a very good troubleshooting section, but unless your pretty computer savvy, I would just call Nintendo and tell them. I know most of us are always leary of calling a company, but as others can attest to, Nintendo is one of the few companies with very friendly, solid call centers.

(BTW, I like your screenname! dis4ME!)

Here's the link for troubleshooting:

And a step further:
Games Freeze

Occasional lockups with video games can happen from time-to-time and do not necessarily indicate a need for repair or replacement. If you are experiencing frequent lockups, or a particular game always locks up in the same area, please see the information below.

Make sure you are using only licensed accessories. Unlicensed products and accessories do not undergo Nintendo's testing and evaluation process. They may not work at all with our game systems, and they may have compatibility problems with certain games or accessories.

If a game freezes while playing, usually the power, reset, and eject buttons will not respond. Try unplugging the AC Adapter from the back of the console, then check the air vents to make sure they're not being blocked.

If the information listed above did not help, please select from the links below so that we may help narrow the problem. How many games are regularly "freezing"?

Then there are some links. This is the link for that page: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/ts/gameDiscs.jsp#freeze

Hey Dis'ers! Hoping you can help! :thumbsup2

We cannot seem to activate the 2nd remote during this game. We push 2 player game, then when the screen says push button A to activate second remote nothing happends. We've tried it a million times. This remote works for every other game we have so I know it's not that. My DD's are dying to play against each other!

Any suggestions?

TIA!:goodvibes

if you have the wii mote in the wii wheel. Some wii wheels, don't have a clear part over the transmitter, like the wheel that comes with mario cart. So, when playing 2 player with that wheel. You have to take the wii mote out of the wii wheel, so that it can be recognized. Not sure if thats the exact problem your having...

Thanks, unfortunately we have already tried that. We've tried to activate it numerous times w/o the wheel and no go.

Any other suggestions? :confused3

Thanks again! :goodvibes

Rayman Raving Rabbids was given 2 thumbs up here and in many other reviews. Unfortunately, I'm finding the game too close to impossible to play (to the point of utter frustration). I'm only in the second round of games!

Anyone else have this problem? Am I the only one ready to sell the game? How did it get such great reviews if two adult players can't pass the games?

My 8 yr old got Animal Crossing for her DS and really likes it. But she says she has to start over every time she plays. Is there a way to save what she's done so far so she doesn't have to keep repeating what she's done?

Thanks!

Oh, another question. we just got a Wii. My dh got a bundle...I know....shouldn't have, but he knew I wanted it so he got it anyway to make Christmas fun for all of us. But I digress.....It came with what is called a "Memory Card for Wii Console 32mb", but I can't get anything to save to it. It's not a SD card. It's rather large and goes in the slots at the top of the Wii. Any advice?

DS#2 (6 yrs old) is playing RRR2 right now. He loves it! We think it is loads of fun as well. (I like RRR TV party better.) Sure some of the games are more challenging but we haven't found them to be impossible. It is a game where you have to have the shaking of the Wiimotes/nunchucks correct in order to succeed. What is is about the games that are youare finding to be difficult? If you give me an example I may be able to help you solve the frustration :)

Have you tried pressing the 2 button instead of the A button. I think with our Mario Kart that we have to press the 2 instead of the A button to activate additional remotes. (DS is playing RRR2 or I would try to see.)

It's the first Game in the series. I'm finding the entire thing to be impossible- for example, the next games are closing bathroom doors (aiming wiimote, shaking nunchuck at the right timing) and shooting carrot juice in the rabbit's masks (aiming wiimote). I'm finding that my timing is always off no matter what I do.

This is the first game that the game has an issue registering the wiimote/nunchuck as well- I get a "out of range" message. We have to stand very close to the tv unlike the rest of the games where we can sit on the couch. I'm wondering if that has something to do with it.

I honestly think we have pushed every button on the remote but I will try again...Thanks. :thumbsup2

Anyone else have any ideas or do I need to call Nintendo? :confused3

Sorry I misread your post and thought you were talking about the second. We do not have the first. I know with the others that your timing does have to be darn near perfect in some of the scenes. It does sound like it may be a sync problem with your remotes. I wish I could help but that is far beyond my Wii knowledge. I hope someone can help you :)

Our family loves the Rayman games - we just got TV Party. On the first game you just have to keep working on it to unlock the games. The closing of the doors isn't too difficult after you work at it. You need to try to close them as soon as they start to open. Once they get half way opened then they are hard to close. Good luck!

This was one of the first games we bought (2 years ago) and we played it until late at night trying to beat all the games!

I think if you can unlock these games you will find games that are more fun. The whole thing is just silly crazy games and it might not be your thing. We love throwing the cows!

The Out of Range message sounds bad. Sorry, I don't know what is going on with that.

about the wii mote again.
I think there is a reset button inside the battery section of the wii mote. Its a little red button.

-- i remember googling this ---
The only thing that comes to my mind is that you don't have the new remote synced up to your Wii. Open the door where the SD card slot is, and press the red button...then take the battery case off the remote and press the little red button in there. This should take care of the sync issues....press A, I think it is, and new remote should glow 1 -4 to indicate it's positioning.

Thanks, I really enjoy silly games so it is right up my ally if I have the patience to unlock all of them. I just didn't think it would/should be THIS hard (having to repeat the same task 25 times on the first level is tedious).

I never throw the cow straight out- he always releases sideways. It was a complete fluke that I beat that one.

Thanks for the tips
