Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Hi, I'm new to all this. We just got a Wii for Christmas. What is a cheat doll? I love this thread, it has been very informative and helpful!:) Thanks!
The cheat doll is in a Wii game called Zak and Wikki. It gives you clues on the levels.

I'm so excited, I finally ordered my Wii from Walmart. Now I hope that everybody who told me I could return the games and get my money back was right, I hated paying that bundle price but figured it seemed like the only way to get one. Of coures the games that I could chose from were not games that I actually wanted, I think I only really wanted one of the 6 games they made me pick.

We opened up Wii Play and talk about a disappointment but we did need the remote.
DD loves the Charge game and the fishing one though. She gets a kick out of them. LOL
I love reading this thread to get some ideas for the next game.

Thank you everyone!!!

I bought the raving rabbits at Best buy for $29.99 this week, Dd loves the Ds version so it should be fun.

We might be really weird but we have more fun with Wii Sports than anything else. We played olympics for an hour this weekend but werent too excited with it. It was alright and I know we will play it on New Years day with everyone but for some reason we preferr sports. I think DD is really having the most fun with her Mii, she keeps changing herself around.

We also did the donkeykong barrel blast this weekend. It was fun but alot of work to race around there for 5 min. Dh has been playing Pirates of the carribean every night but I dont know how sucessful he has been!

Can we use any Sd card for memory or do we need to buy the special Wii ones at the store? I figure we will need one eventually.

Thoughts on this game? I've read most of the posts on this thread but don't recall reading anything about this game. Thanks!

ANY SD card works, so the cheaper ones sold by just about EVERYONE are a better choice than the Nintendo branded ones. :)

I'm in the midst of Super Mario Galaxy (which I love!), and have about 18 stars so far.

I'm also playing Super Paper Mario, which I think is a lot of fun, too. The humor in it is wicked (Nastasia, the homage to the "Office Space" boss, cracks me up).

I'll be picking up Metroid 3 right after our upcoming WDW trip. I got some gift cards for Xmas and that, and Mass Effect for 360, are going to be what I pick up with them.

Any Sd card will do...but unless you plan to play the game at a friends house also..it's kinda pointless to save to anythign but the internal memory.

Harry potter...Thoughts on this game? I've read most of the posts on this thread but don't recall reading anything about this game. Thanks!

I had fun with Harry Potter for a while...the movements are a blast! You can't really go wrong using the wiimote as a wand.....that said...the game lacked action and is pretty mych a puzzle/fetch quest kinda game. Like I said, fun...but for the action freak in me it got old after a while I just wanted more to do.

I'll add my review to DH's.

I was really excited to play this game. Doing the movements for the wand and using the Maurader's Map are really cool, but I got bored with it fast.

I think it is an excellent game for young (7-10) or inexperienced gamers who love HP. They probably wouldn't get as bored as fast as DH and I did.

There are a ton of reviews out there for the game--check ign if you want more. :thumbsup2

Horned King - I don't remember the names of the games they want to play other than the obvious ones NCAA football, and basketball. My oldest now wants Guitar Hero, do you think I'll be able to find it on the Wii in the next few months? His bday isn't until Spring and it would be a nice gift.

PS2 games seem so much more available which doesn't make sense with the number of owners of that system, but I guess alot of people who own that also own another system. I just kinda hate to spend money on a PS2 and then have no new games released on it. But I already read where NCAA somethingerother is coming out in 08 for it.

As for Blu Ray, I see no need for that either and kinda thought the only reason to go the PS3 route was if you wanted that, which I don't. So then I looked at the XBX360, but reading about how so many people have their system break down isn't winning me over. I don't want to spend ~$400 for a system to need replacing in 3 yrs or less.

Back to GH, when I was at the store this past weekend, I saw lots of versions of GH (games and guitars) for PS2 systems but none others.

We got Cooking Mama for the DS and my boys like playing that one. It was $10.99 at Costco ($15.99 minus instant rebate of $5) so I figured for $10 maybe they'd learn some cooking skills. They were talking to their grandparents at dinner the other night and they really thought they had been cooking in a real kitchen with all the lingo they were using that they picked up while playing.

We also got Lego Star Wars Complete Saga but they just got this one over the weekend and haven't played it yet but are looking forward to playing this one on the Wii.

Of all the games they got the past week probably Madden 08 and Metroid 3 are the ones getting played the most. They finally put in Wario Ware Smooth Moves and think that one is alot of fun.

Tyedye--I definitely think you'll find GH for his birthday. Just keep looking.

I'm really not sure why it's so much easier to find PS2 stuff...except that people that play GH are more likely to have a newer system as they are usually older gamers.

I think the Wii one is so HTF cuz new gamers with only a Wii are looking for it. So many families now have this system and are currently buying games for it.

Red Octane needs to ramp up the production.

Oh and Harmonix seriously needs to get to working on Rock Band--cuz it rocks. :teeth:

Duh...forgot the rest...

I don't think that the PS2 would be a waste for you. They are so cheap and there are so many games that you can go back and buy or rent or find at garage sales. lol

I'm still surprised at the lack of an announcement about the NCAA games coming to the Wii.

If I were you I would look for GH for the Wii. If you find it before his b-day then revisit the PS2 question when the NCAA games are released. If you really can't find it...pick up a PS2.

As for the 360 problems...those are hopefully being fixed with the new chip. When those systems are widely available, we'll be picking one up and I think that might be your logical next step since the games the kids will want as they get older will be on the 360.

I hope you're right about the probs being fixed with the 360. So by the time we get around to making a decsion or buying another system that won't be a problem anymore.

We still have our GameCube and it works fine! So right now both kids can play games at the same time which at times can be helpful. Of course right now one is playing in an NCAA 03 or 04 football tournament so he's using the GC while the other plays Wii. I'll be in the room or nearby and hear the Buckeye Fight Song and have to stop and see where it's coming from.

There is nothing about NCAA games for the Wii but they are already showing up in 08 to be released for other systems. Maybe they feel the people that own the Wii don't need/want to play NCAA but I think they are missing a market, I can't believe that I have the only boy who likes to play NCAA.

ITA It's so weird that they're making Madden but not the NCAA games. Football is football. If their is enough need for Madden then there should be plenty for NCAA. Especially since the NCAA has more viewership overall as every big city has some kind of college team, while there are only 32 NFL teams.
Maybe you should start a letter writing campaign or something. Heck, give EA a call and see what they say. lol

And if Microsoft doesn't fix the 360 this time around they'll just have to keep trying...though it really bugs me that it is Microsoft. Their other products are always so crappy and it takes them forever to fix things (Vista anyone?). If it was any other company, the system would have failed because of the whole issue.

I did contact EA about the NCAA games since they haven't release one on any Nintendo platform for years. I got a standard canned response. I keep trying to tell my son that football is football but he really likes playing as a college team. Perhaps after the BCS championship game he'll be more into NFL more, well at least until March Madness, but I don't think we even own an NCAA basketball on GC so we'll prob get an earful of complaints from him and then his bday comes so we'll see. I think NCAA bball was stopped years b4 football and I can't even find anything used for that.

I remember you telling me about your son's preference. Kids...lol Especially since with NCAA the players are very shallow--as in which people are 'real.' Madden has so much more depth that way.

At least they got plenty of games for Christmas to keep them busy playing new stuff for awhile, hopefully a long while (or when Super Smash comes out).:thumbsup2

I was just looking at EA's website and saw a new game coming out called FIFA Street on 360, PS3 and DS, but no Wii mentioned or PS2 for that matter, so if that's the direction things are going then I think PS2 might only be a small step and I'd rather save the money and put it towards the newer systems. I've also looked for NCAA games on the pc and can't find that either, we either have a pc that is too old and slow to play the game or one with Vista that they aren't compatible with yet.

Sounds like you'll have to think 360, but you know what will happen...you'll sink the money in and then he won't care again.

I wouldn't make any decisions until the next wave of games comes out.

How old is DS again? I'm thinking he is either at or very near the target child age for the 360 and once the new chip comes out it'll be a very good time to buy one. It's always better to invest in the system closer to the release date instead of waiting 7 years until the newer stuff is out. Espeicially with older children.

There's nothing wrong with your kid liking NCAA...Espically OHIO STATE!

FIFA is of course the world soccer leage....Many times you will see games released on the 360/ps3 at the same time because they are developed alot alike...the wii with it's motion sensitivity is a whole other can of worms to program for.

As for why we have seen so few NCAA games (up until now)...The gamecueb had a ver small userbase...it was mostly played by adults(who grew up with nintendo) or children. the main target of the NCAA games is College students...Therefore the sales of NCAA football and basketball we're very low on the system. As it is now they sales of NCAA on 360/the playstation platforms is HALF of what Madden is. I too would love to get my hands on a new NCAA football game, however until Ea thinks(or see's) that the Wii's user base will buy it, we may be out of luck.

back to the 360/ps2/ps3 debate....If you do look for a 360 anytime soon...look on the side of the box for it to say 175w(by the white label) this mean it has the new Falcon Graphic Processing chip and enhanced cooling fan...it's less likely to have the RROD. I might also suggest putting in the extra cash for the return plan for where ever you buy it so you can just walk back to the store if somethign happens.....Your reasons for being iffy are the same as mine...but I may finally be taking the plunge.

That said...once Smash Brothers Brawl launches in another months nothign else is gonna get played anyway!
