Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

I can't believe that some TRU's had so few copies of Mario!! I'm so sorry to all of you who haven't gotten the deal yet, but I say keep trying. When I was at TRU we got shipments of games every day, so there is a good chance they'll have some before they run out of gift cards. What terrible planning on their part.

So I've played the game for a few hours now and I can honestly say it is by far the BEST Wii game yet. I think kids as young as 6 (younger if they are already gamers) will be able to play and enjoy this game. It's just soo much fun.

On another note I have problems watching DH play the game (it make me queesy) but no problems at all playing myself.

So if you haven't already done so, BUY MARIO GALAXY!!

Is it possible to buy a second game pad for DDR?
Yes, but they are usually very hard to find. I would try Gamestop.

Does anyone know of any other great deals for Wii games other than Mario Galaxy? Will TRU have another buy 2 get one free or any other store before Christmas?

Yes!! Next week TRU is having it's buy 2 get 1 free sale AGAIN!!! It's only good for Wii games and I bet most stores will seel out of the popular games quickly. DH has more details. I don't think the sale starts until Black Friday, but I could be wrong.

I got a Wii for my 3 kids for Christmas from Santa. How many games should I get for 3 kiddies? (ages 6,8,11)

I'm really big about giving kids only one or two games at a time. Otherwise one or more games will be ignored. You'll have Wii Sports and I suggest you pick up Wii Play for the 2nd remote. I would definitely get Mario Galaxy for those ages. I added a big list of recommendations to the first post of the thread, so read that for more ideas! Or come back and give me a little more specifics.

Do you have any recommendations for battery charging units? There are several on the market. To my knowledge, none are made by Nintendo. Is one better than another? I've also seen rechargable battery packs that just plug into the wall and then are put into the controller.
ETA: Would I be better off just getting regular rechargeable batteries? Again -- what mAh should I buy?

I only recommend the Nyko charger. It's the one I have and we love it. You cannot charge the controllers with the guard on though. We leave them off, but you can pull them off to charge.

I really like having the charger for the wii-motes as opposed to regular rechargeables. We have those too, but it's so much easier to just grab your wii-mote from the charger than fussing with the other batteries. You always know you're ready to go that way.

Has anyone played Super Swing Golf? It looked interesting so I picked it up for my DS11 & DD6.
Yes, it's okay. It didn't get great reviews, most people liked the golf in Wii Sports more. If you paid more than $40 I would return it and buy Tiger Woods. It's the only golf game worth buying IMO. If you can't return it, don't worry about it, I'm sure your kids will enjoy it.

Just a cut and paste from my other thread, but thought I would tell you all as well, since I have YOU guys to thank for it. Thanks SO much to the poster that turned me onto GameStop!!!

OK, sing with me now..........

I got my Wii, I got my Wii, I got my Wii, Wii, Wii, Wii, Wii Wiiiiiiii!! :woohoo: :woohoo:   :yay: :yay:

Ok, so thanks to some lady on the Wii thread, who said stop trying Toys R Us and Target, find a GameStop and go there. Well, I have never heard of this place, so googled it and well, what do you know...the closest place to me!!! Right in the Target parking lot in fact! So, I called there on Monday to get the scoop and he told me to call each day around 11 to see if they had any. They had their last shipment on Thursday last week and usually get one a week.

I aint no dummy, so I WENT there yesterday at 11 and went in. The shipment had just gotten there and NO Wii's at all in that days shipment. This lovely lady I "know" from somewhere. :confused3 Funny how people always seem to know who I am, but I am  ! Anyway, she told me to get here at 10:30, as that is when the UPS guys show up each day.

So today, Z HAD swimming at 10:50, so I got there at 9:58, thank goodness, as there was a long line waiting to get in. :headache: I rushed over and got in the end of it. I figured they were there, but found out that that is what goes on each morning there, and that UPS does in fact get there at 10:30 and these people arrive everyday to wait for them to arrive.

Most of the people in line were actually there to buy stuff and did what they had to do and left. :yay: That left just four of us, all moms with little kids. Right after the UPS guy drives by, two more ladies walked in. We were all just standing around, waiting for the UPS guy to come on already and get there. While we are standing there, the phone had rang a few times and the workers told these people that YES, they were getting them in today, that they weren't there yet, and to call back in a bit, they have a line of people alread and they can tell them if there are any left. This irks me, as they claim to not know that they are arriving, but obviously with tracking, they DO in fact know!!!

Anyway, the Beautiful UPS man comes in with load after load of boxes, many from Nintendo, :dance3: , and they asked us to please line up, IN THE ORDER WE CAME IN. Well, Mrs. #6, gets in line FIRST. Mrs. #1, #2, #3 and myself, #4 say OH NO You don't! She said, OH YES I DO, I am standing her now!!!

We are all pissed, and figure the store guy will straighten her out. Really though, since the Wii's come in boxes of 3, we know that they ONLY person effected by this B is the TRUE Mrs. #3, as she is now Mrs. #4, so if they only get one box, she is out of luck. I am into box two either way, so doesn't effect me at all!

But alas, they get in five boxes, so there are 15 of them and only 11 in line, so we all get one. Mrs. #11 came down to Quodba

I just posted on another thread that TRU website is showing that they have the bundles for $469.94 and are in stock. Don't know if this is true or not I did not do checkout, we already have WII. Just wanted to let you know.

http://www.toysrus.com/cart/index.jsp

They are still in stock, and here are the games that come with...shipping is just $20!

This Bundle includes: Wii Console, Ratatouille, namco Museum Remix, Crash of the Titans, Bee Movie Game, and Ben 10 Protector of the Earth

So, you guys do recommended one of the chargers. I was at Target today and they have one on sale for $19.99, but the girl said just not worth it. So easy to just do rechargable batteries...but I don't agree. I think I will run back and get it. I think it was the brand that someone just mentioned too.

Yikes ~ I didn't realize we will already have a golf with the Wii Sports. I think it was $39.99. You know I think we have enough to start out with...I'll probably just return it.

I also have Wii Play, Mario Party, Sonic vs Mario, some Baseball game, Bratz (I know, probably a waste but she really wanted it) and Grandma bought Guitar Hero & Hannah Montana

Thanks for all your help!

I'm so frustrated right now. Went to Toys R Us, yes I know I should have gone yesterday. They were all sold out of Mario Galaxy. Went to Best Buy to have them price match. At first I was told they don't match gift cards. When I insisted they double check, after 20 minutes they finally said well, they would have been able to price match 'if' Toys R Us still had them in stock. But they called TRU and they were out, so all they could offer me was a $10 gift card. When questioned as to whether or not they call the other store on each and every price match, they conceeded that they do not. But still would not honor the price match for me. Went to Circuit City and as soon as I asked if they had Mario Galaxy in stock, they told me right away that they wouldn't match the TRU offer.

So, looks like no MG for DS. I'll keep trying TRU though just in case they get more in.

My son is 14 and what I found works best is if you pre-order at gamestop or anywhere else that does preorders so then they just call you when the game comes in. I have to say I did that for all 3 of his games for this Christmas, no calling around or waiting in lines. I am picking up his Mario Galaxy game tonight I preordered (2) one for him and one for my nephew. The kids are usually up on whats coming out and will tell you. Also, the kids that work in the video game stores will tell you whats coming out that is hot if you ask them. just a thought.

Hey...it's listed on a black friday list...for $34.99 at Circuit City.....my plan is to Price Match it at Walmart....It's not a $25 gift card but it's $15 OFF so it's all good....

Also, there's rumor that next week there will be buy 2 get 1 free so that would be EVEN better than the $25 gift card. Never fear it will work out!

For the person above me who just pre-orders and gets them...that's great and all but where's the fun? and where's the money savings? LOL. Half the fun is the score!

Trish

p.s.
i used xpbargain's wii tracker and waited for amazon to have it....free ship and no tax! woo hoo. check it OFTEN.....early am [<5am] mid day [2pm] late at night [midnight]; etc. type www xpbargains . com / wii_locator . php

For those looking for just a Wii Console, I recommend signing up for one of the many notification sites. I have only been looking for a Wii for about 2 weeks and I got an email this morning that Best Buy had them online and I scored one! :cool1: Maybe I just got lucky but that worked for us.

Now for the games and accessories. From what I understand, we will need an extra controller and nunchuck. Are both of these included with the Wii Play or just the controller?

My DD is 12 & DS is 10. DS will be more into this than DD. I think I am going to pick up the Wii Play, Olympics, Mario Galaxy & Star Wars for them. Does that seem sufficient?

Is there anything else accessory wise that I really need?

Thanks!

Lisa

DH had today off and he wanted to pick a few things up at Home Depot. I thought as long as we were out we'd stop in a few stores for the elusive Wii.

Wal-mart - nope
Game Stop - nope
Best Buy - nope

I guess everyobody's getting tired of being asked because none of the employees anywhere were friendly. DH asked at each store if they had an idea of when they'd be getting more - "I don't know".

Okay, decided to go to a shopping area that's less busy. It's in a town that's basically in the middle of nowhere.

Wal-mart - nope
Game Stop - I sure do, can I get one for you?

I think we about fell over! Then DH asked me if I thought we should get it today. Um, yes!

Anyhow, $330 later we have the console, a nunchuck and the pack that comes with 9 games and a Wii-mote (forgot what it's called already).

He suggested too that if there is ever a game we want to call him and pre-order it. I know you're not saving any money, well maybe you are with gas prices being the way they are. At least though you know you'll get the game.

Can't wait for Christmas and the kids can open it. They have no idea. We keep telling them it's out of our price range.

Picked up the Mario Galaxy today at TRU. They had about a case, if not more of them there. I also picked up MySims for the DS, got the $10 GC for purchases over $75, got the $25 GC for purchasing Mario Galaxy and used a $10 GC from last week. So for $75 bucks I got the Mario Galaxy and MySims AND a $35 Gift Card

It's totally a personal preference. I just think have the dedicated charger is more convenient. I think the charge lasts longer too. Honestly, I'm not a huge recharageable battery fan. We've tried several different kinds (in cameras and the wii and other stuff) and they all end up having really tiny charges within a couple of months.

We've had the Nyko charger for almost as long as it's been out there (8 months?) and never had an issue.

Yikes ~ I didn't realize we will already have a golf with the Wii Sports. I think it was $39.99. You know I think we have enough to start out with...I'll probably just return it.

I think you have plenty!! And some really great choices. Don't feel bad about Bratz or Hannah, sometimes you have to get them and there's nothing wrong with that. (I still suggest you get Mario Galaxy so she knows what a REAL game is! :teeth: But you don't need to get it now!)

So, looks like no MG for DS. I'll keep trying TRU though just in case they get more in.

This game is totally worth full price, much more so than any other game I can think of (maybe Zelda), but as Trish said there are more deals to be had.

Also, there's rumor that next week there will be buy 2 get 1 free so that would be EVEN better than the $25 gift card. Never fear it will work out!

The sale was confirmed to us by an employee, but I wouldn't count on them having too many copies of Galaxy for the deal.

I ALWAYS preorder anything I know I want. Then if a store is giving away something cooler or if a big deal happens at a store that I did not preorder from I 1: Try to get the deal from the otehr store. 2: IF I get it, I get a refund on my preorder. I've done this a BUNCH of times with a bunch of different stores with no problems.

Okay, you really only NEED a second wii-mote (included with Wii Play). There are very few multiplayer games that need the nunchuck. Boxing in Wii Sports is the only one I actually know of, but I'm sure there are others. My advice is to not buy a second nunchuck until you find a game you need it for. SO when you pick up your games look on the back of the boxes. They will tell you what they need to be played.

You picked great games. Some they can play together and some individually. Good job!

The only other thing I would suggest is the Nyko wii-mote charger or rechargeable batteries (see beginning of post). The Wii-motes go through batteries like water otherwise.

Phew! Nintendo needs to pay me! :thumbsup2

My kids are 18 and 14 I have been there done that... Last year Black Friday I waited in line at 4:00 a.m. at Best Buy to get a Wii, which I am glad I did since they are still hard to find. When I know it is something they want for Christmas I want to be sure I get it. So pre-ordering for me is the way to go:thumbsup2

Thanks. I can find the game all over, but no one will match the Toys R Us offer. I only wanted the game if I could get some incentive for it.

NOt to sound mean or anything but I have never seen a store price match "gift card" or "special" promotions. Also it is everystores policy that they will only match prices if the Item is in stock...haveing been forced to work retail for more then 10years through highschool and college, I can tell you this is standard policy..so don't take it personal that they can't and won't price match.

Also why do you only want it if you can get an incentive? This game honestly and with 100% certanty is the WII game of the year. It's possibly the best game on all systems right now. I strongly sugest that you pick it up even at full price.
