Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Does anybody know if there is a release date for Wii Fit? Will it be here in time for Christmas? Thanks!

There seem to be many brands (none of which I've ever hear of) of Wii remote chargers - and when I go online & read the reviews of them, most are rated poorly. Can anyone recommend a good quality Wii remote (single or double) charger?

Got it...love it.... have had no problems or regrets about buying it. It is by far the best charger out there.

Wii Fit..will not, nor has ever been, a game ment to be here by christmas...
but to answer your question...
Release Date: (as of right now..still waiting on an official Day)
US: January 2008
Japan: December 1, 2007

Wii Sports is a seperate game right? I am confused. what game comes with the console/system?

No Wii Sports is the game that comes packed in with the system. (It is sold seperate in japan- they have no packed in game)

Yay! You got to answer some questions!!

Your signature is still messed up though! :p

Thanks for the clarification!

Besides Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Brothers what are the other hot games I should purchase for an 8.5 y.o. girl. She likes mario, donkey kong, High school musical. Is HSM worth buying? I think I will get tired of her singing. :rolleyes1

Sorry, I admit it, I didn't read through all 60 pages to find an answer:confused

Here is my situation: I finally found a WII at a local Fred Meyer. It is only myself and my son in the house. I know the box comes with sports and one controller. I am looking at purchasing Mario 8, Sonic the hedgehog and one other game for son. What else do I need? Charger? Second handset? Memmory card? And?

Advice appreciated!
Thanks.:goodvibes

What's wrong with his signature?

Love the Script Ohio! :yay: Where do you get that?

The Wiimote uses AA batteries so you don't NEED a charger.

If you want to play against your son or he and a friend, then yes you do need another wiimote. For the price of the wiimote, you may want to buy wii play, it's $10 more than a wiimote only and you get a bunch of little games to play your son might like.

Not sure about the memory card question, it depends. We or I should say my kids use one to save our old gamecube games when playing them on the wii console. So if you'll only be playing wii games I don't know if you have to have extra memory or not. I'm sure harleyquinn or horned king can answer that better than I.

Honestly, I doubt HSM is really worth it unless she is a crazy fan for it and even then it'll probably get old really fast.

I love Rayman. You cna probably pcik up the first one pretty cheap by now. It's super funny and perfect for an 8 year old. She might also like Super Paper Mario. It's more of an involved game, but it's super fun and if she likes Mario, she should really enjoy it.

I can't think of anything else you NEED to have. And don't forget that Smash Bros doesn't come out until after christmas.

I think tyedye answered everything as well as I can.

I'll just add a little. You don't NEED the charger, but it'll save you a FORTUNE in batteries. The Wiimotes really suck them dry quickly.

Buy Wii Play for the second controller like tyedye said.

You really don't need a memory card unless you are playing downloaded games. So I wouldn't worry about that.

For the last game I HIGHLY suggest Super Mario Galaxy. It's the system's big Mario game and it looks like it'll be better than the others. If he likes Sonic, he'll love Mario. Also Sonic will be in Super Smash Brothers Brawl, which after Galaxy is probably the #2 best game coming out.

It's too long and the pictures are overall too high in pxels. That's why the line of text at the very end is cut off and one of the pictures is not all there.

You did a great job answering!! The student has become the teacher!:teacher: :thumbsup2

Well I like the new signature with the Script Ohio, so don't change that part. I attended the games where Bob Hope and the one where Woody dotted the i.:cool2: Wish I'd had been there for Nicklaus but that didn't happen.

Also the quotes from LOST are too funny. Not much longer to go before the new season now, it's seems like forever though, but I'm glad they waited until Jan as we are way too busy right now. I just hope they move the time slot up as rumored.

Anyone know anything about Backyard Football for the DS or Wii? DS1 used to play these on the pc and really liked them, I just don't know if he'd like them in addition to Madden 08.

I already bought Madden 08 and he heard me talking to DH about it but he was suppose to be asleep so I keep telling him if he knows or finds something for xmas it's being returned so he's been good about not bringing it up again.

Maybe we could get the Backyard Football for DS since I got Madden for the Wii?? Also was thinking of getting them a DS game for our long car trip in a few weeks as we are driving to Port Canaveral for a cruise on the Wonder.:woohoo:

How are the Brain age games for DS? I need to spend some time over at IGN reading reviews, but will adults like these?

harleyquinn- Regarding the batteries on the wiimote, I thought I read where you shouldn't use rechargeable batteries in these somewhere, am I getting that mixed up with something else?

I just picked up our Wii system from Game Crazy today & they were really pushing the 2-year warranty. We said no, thanks, but, is this something we should have gotten? We have a week to decide if we want it.

Does anyone know of major issues common to the Wii that would make the extra warranty a good idea? Or is this just the typical sales-pitch?:confused3

Thanks for any info.:goodvibes

I hope they move it up too. I was way too tired after being at work all day to stay up until 11. Plus I was usually so hyped up by the end of the show that I couldn't sleep!

I love the Backyard games for the PC. never played one on the other systems.

If you just go to www.ign.com and type in the game titles you can get their reviews. Normally I'd do it for you, but I don't have time tonight! Sorry!

Yes, brain age is really fun and is actually targeted at adults. It's just what the commercial tells you--lots of "thinking" mini games that train your brain. It's easy to completely lose track of time playing it!

Yes, there was something about Nintendo warning not to use rechargeable batteries way back when the system was released. But they have since reversed that and said that they are fine. I know links to the articles about it are somewhere in the beginning of the thread, but you can just take my word for it! lol Nintendo is totally cool with people using the rechargeables.

And BTW I'm jealous...can I come on the cruise with you? You can ask me any Nintendo questions you want! lol

I would recommend the new Zelda game for the DS if you need something to occupy. It's really fun and engrossing.

No WAY!! There is no need to buy the store's warranty. The Wii has it's own, plus once you open it up it has instructions for registering with Nintendo which EXTENDS the warranty even further. Plus Nintendo has FANTASTIC customer service.

And the only issue with the system has been people losing control of the Wii-motes, hence thicker cords and the new spiffy rubber case.

You did the right thing.

I would always tape LOST (no TIVO or DVR, we use old VHS) as there would be parts DH would want to watch or hear again and I needed that to see what I missed. I had a hard time staying awake even at the earlier time slot but at least there was a better chance for me staying awake.:coffee:

So I do remember correctly about the batteries, just didn't know they changed their view on rechargeables. That's good to know I may go that route.

I already have a friend who has offered to carry our bags on our cruise but right now we don't have any ready! I need to get packing! I wonder if they have the Wii on board, I know they had a playstation in the kids lab, we'll have to tell our kids to check into that.

We got our son Phantom Hourglass for the DS for his bday a few wks ago and he plays it often and likes it, in fact he was just playing it.

Anyone received their wiimote jackets? I got a confirmation email saying they shipped.

BUY ZACK and WIKI!!

Ok I did my job...it just launched today and so far it's a fun puzzle solveing game. Think like old point and click myst(for the PC) style game. with wiimote actions mixed in.

Wile it looks kiddy and would be fine for them to play(E for Everyone) just know that they may get frustrated as even the easiest puzzle levels are takign abotu 30minutes to complete! I have also heard form people that some of the harder lvl's can take over an hou! Not to mention if you did you have to start the puzzle over!

Luckily a second player can use a second wiimote like a telistrator and point things out, so it may be a fun game to get your children thinking at a higher level while helping them out if they get stuck.

Not to mention it's only $39.99! You will need to go to gamestop (or videogame store) to buy this game Toys R Us is not carring it at this time do to the niche audience it feels the game will have. I can't speak for other big reatilers like best buy/walmart, but I walked right into gamestop and the dude handed it to me.

As for my siggy...
The Script Ohio is a banner i made , along with all the other banners I have had in my siggy before (and now).

again....
GO BUY ZACK & WIKI!!!!

Don't feel bad, we're still using VHS for that type of thing too.

We haven't ordered our Wii-mote 'fros, so I can't comment on that.

So let's see...I don't know what other DS games to suggest right now. I'm sure the Backyard one is fun, but I don't like playing sports games on handheld systems.

If DH wasn't too busy playing Zack & Wiki maybe he'd have suggestions...I'll ask him when I get home.

I know you bought it tonight, so do you have any first hand experience? ....I'm surprised he took the time to post!

I wonder if the wii jackets nintendo is sending out will work with this? I read someone's review that the $20 jackets they bought won't work. Then again, maybe we'll just use rechargeable batteries but not get the charger thing for the wiimotes as we have no place to put it and plug it in near the tv or wii console.

For those looking at Backyard Football for the DS, IGN gave it a 1.5 rating, so read the review before purchasing. Couldn't find any review for the Wii version.

NBA Live 08 only got a 4.9 rating, they say it's the worst EA game for the Wii.

Brain Age 2 got an 8.0 rating for the DS game, so maybe I'll get that game as we all can play it (not that we all can't play the other games but honestly I'd be lost in Zelda, DH OTOH likes Zelda too).

DS 7 thinks brain age 2 is hard, but DH & I are starting to play it. It's hard to get time on our one DS. Mine is waiting for Santa to bring it.

We all like Pokemon Diamond & Pearl for DS, even me. :) We just need to get Rock Climb.

I managed to talk myself into buying my kids (DS7 & DS6) a Wii for Christmas and I am really debating on which games to give them for Christmas. I picked up some games at the TRU sale but some will be exchanged when new ones are released. Here are the ones I am sure we are going to keep

WiiPlay
Madden 08 (for DH - I was going to get Tiger Woods 08 but I heard it stinks)
Carnival Games
Thrillville - Off the Rails (the only thing DS7 has asked for)
Mario Party 8
My mom got the boys - MLB Power Pros and the Crash Bandicoot game

I'm really torn about which of the following to get:
Mario & Sonic at the Olympics
Super Mario Galaxy
(and thanks to the new review) Zack & Wiki
I would love to get a good fishing game for the boys (including DH) but I'm not sure which one would be best.

I'm only going to get 2 of the 4 games that I am up in the air about so any suggestions???

I'd be willing to bet they will work. The rechrageable has a different battery cover that has a non-slip grip, but it's about the exact same size as the old one. The only thing is that you'd have to take the cases off to charge the controllers. Which is why I haven't bothered ordering them yet.

Wow! A 1.5! That is bad! Thanks for reporting back what you found! :teeth:

My suggestions would be
1. Mario Galaxy for sure
2. Zack & Wiki

I think most kids have way more than enough mini game games, so that rules out Sonic. And there hasn't been a fishing game that I would recommend. Plus there's NO way I'd buy a fishing game for more than $20 no matter how good it is.

What spiffy rubber cases? Are they the ones you can buy in the stores or something new and exciting? Are they something we really need?

http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/jacket/jacketrequest.jsp

They are free cases nintendo is sending out to people that request them to further stop any of the wii-motes flying into TVs and such.

I don't consider them a NEED, but they are free. Tho if you get the charger you'll have to pull the case off every time you want to charge them.

Thanks! I already have Galaxy reserved at Target. The clips I found for Zack & Wiki make it look really cool. I think everyone will enjoy that one! It is a shame they don't have a good fishing game. The Wii is the perfect system for a good fishing game!
