Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

Apparently there is a Wii Motor Sports game coming out sometime in the future (no time soon) that includes a flight sim, but it's just a small minigame, not a full fledged game.

The 360 has a bunch of flight sims out and more on the way. Here's a link, click on the titles for more info.

Could anyone tell me if there is any difference in the SD card that they sell branded with the Wii logo and a regular SD card? Can you buy a regular SD card and use it for the game or does it have to be the special ones?? Just curiuos.

Nope nothing different. The Nintendo one just costs more. Although cheap-o SD cards are more likely to corrupt than the Nintendo ones from some reports. Nintendo usually has better stuff than your everyday knock off brand. Like I know that the old memory cards made by Nintendo for the gamecube were way less likely to get messed up than the Mad Katz brand ones, but I don't think it'll necessarily be the same thing now that the system uses an SD.

So you should be fine with any SD card.

NAyone want to go grocery shopping for me tonight? I want to stay home and play Guitar Hero! :teeth:

Just for your information, we've had the system since launch and we've never used an SD card.

You only need it to save downloaded games, so unless you know they will be downloading with the Virtual Console, I would not buy an SD card. And if you know they are going to do that, I suggest you buy them a Wii Points card instead of a SD card. The points cards allow them to download games.

SO I just bought my kiddos a WII off of the Amazon link posted above. Now I have NO idea what to get to go with it. I have three kids, 10,5, and 2. I was thinking Guitar Hero III looked cool but cannot find it in stock.

Are there any remotes that I should get? I am not into gaming so I am clueless.

Also looking to getting my DH a good war game. Any suggestions?

We have gotten a Wii for our son. He is 6 and his only experience is on his leapster. I have gotten Wii play, big brain academy and mario party 8. We have pre-ordered Sonic & Mario at the Olympic Games. Any suggestions? He is very into Cars, but I didn't know if I should look at Cars or wait for the new Mater one. Thanks so much!!

Call of Duty is the best war game. I would not suggest Guitar Hero since at least 2 out of the 3 kids are too young for it. (It is rated T for Teen due to lyrics and things, but I think it's too hard for anyone younger than 6 at the very least).
Get Wii play for a second wii-mote. Each person wanting to play needs a wii-mote when playing party games like Mario Party or Wii Sports.

You'll find a lot of basic info on the FAQ post of this thread (the very first post).

I think you have more than enough games for now (and very good choices at that!). Stay away from Cars, it's really hard.

Please read through about the last 4 or 5 pages of this thread and you'll both get plenty of suggestions if you need more!! :teeth:
Welcome to the thread!

I don't know if anyone can answer this question but I ordered a Wii off of Amazon today. It showed that it was in stock when I bought it. Now my confirmation shows a ship date of 11/13 which an arrival date 11/20-11/27.
What is the chance that I will actually get a Wii? I know that Amazon is notorious for selling out of stock items then canceling the order. I am afraid that I will stop looking for a Wii then end up without one come Christmas...

Happy Halloween Everyone! Happy Halloween Sarah!

Now, when do we get to see your costumes?? :surfweb:

I've been thinking of getting Guitar Hero for my DS10 for Christmas. Do you have an opinion on whether it would be better to get it for the Wii or PS2. Target has a PS2 bundle on sale this week were you get two guitars with the game for $89.99 while the Wii is the same price with one guitar. DD almost 8 is really into guitars and wants to learn how to play one. I did get her the toy version of the Bratz Rock Angels plug n play guitar last year that she thought was pretty hard. Santa also brought her a pink guitar that she stums and sings to and just pretends she knows what she is doing. She has a blast making up songs.
I just wasn't sure what the difference on the GH was between the Wii version and PS2 version. I have primarily been getting new Wii games for him but he still loves his PS2. I wasn't sure if it was better to have 2 guitars if one might be too hard for the 8 year old. Of course, if I got this, I'd have to throw in '80's rock for some songs from my era!!!

Any through on the DWTS game and Guitar Hero? Thinking of getting both so should I get a dance mat or just reuse my DDR mat.

So is the system not like the typical other systems where you need a card to save game prograss, or is the memory built in??? So we can actually play evey game on there and not need the card, ,..... well that is kool to know, thanks for he info, maybe i will skip it as i doubt that they will be downloading anything, thier main draw is guitar hero...hehehe

oh and too add, now we are looking for Guitar heroo 3 for wii and wow i cant believe its sold out too.!!!

My sons are 7 and 9 - Their friends love Wii Sports and Wii Play. They are both easy for kids to learn and play.

We love Mario Party 8, but you (parents) will probably want to start playing it and win to unlock the mini games. My sons love to play the mini games. These are short games that last only a few minutes and have a winner. Those are unlike the long drawn out games that take hours and hours (or weeks and weeks) to complete.

When my sons were 6 they both loved Lego Star Wars for PS2. So you might consider buying that for Wii when it's released. We're definitely getting it. :cool1:
