Congrats both of you! Welcome to the thread! Let us know if you have any questions.

So we've had the Wii for about 6 weeks now and it seems the kids are bored with it already. Only because DS wants to play NCAA basketball and football games and Nintendo hasn't released those for years. I'm not sure what we'll do as it seems that those are being released for PS2 and XBOX360 for 07. I guess we could buy another system, all we have is GC and now Wii but we just got the Wii.

I'm afraid though that if we get PS2 that they'l stop making games for it soon. I've searched the web and it seems like they have alot of new games to be released this year but is there any way to find out? Also I can get this at Costco (bundled w/2 games), do other places still carry it new?

Sorry about contaminating the Wii thread w/other system questions.

Maybe I just need to buy DS new games. I asked him about SSX and he said he didn't want it. My other son does though, this one just likes the sports. We already have Madden 07 for GC so we'll wait for the 08 to buy it for the Wii but they told me that it ruins your tv. Someone told them they played madden 07 on the wii and it broke their tv?:confused3

I did read where Fifa will be coming out for the Wii in the fall, and I'm guessing that NBA will too, but the NCAA games haven't released anything for Nintendo for a few years now. If someone knows something I'm missing please correct me.

I can tell you that they are winding down the games being released for the
PS2 this year.....not sure when they will stop making them but they will as
DS(11) was whining about a game that's coming out only for the PS3 (which we don't have and I don't plan on getting one unless the price comes down considerably).

We have the Gamecube, Wii, PS2 and the XBOX 360 and for sports games -the XBOX 360 is the best system to play them on. DS has Madden 07 for the Wii, it hasn't broken his TV. :confused3

DS(11) just got the Tiger Woods for the Wii - he likes it, he also has the SSX for the Wii and that one is really cool but a little hard in getting the guy to do the tricks at first - you've got to practice on that one.

Not sure about the NCAA games as we have them all on the PS2.

Edited to add: buying a PS2 now wouldn't be a bad thing as there are hundreds of games for that system and Gamestop will always carry used games. If it were me, I'd make the plunge for the XBOX 360 - I absolutely love the colors in those XBOX games and the graphics....well, let me just say I thought it was real like a movie playing in the game when I first saw a sports game being played on an XBOX360 - WOW!!

Well one way to justify the cost of yet another game system is that it'll also play DVD's. Currently we don't have a dvd player in the family room with the Wii and GC.

I thought that I heard/read that Sony said they'd support thier systems for a min. of 10 years. How long has PS2 been out?

I don't really want to have to buy yet again another system in another year just for the ncaa games, so maybe xbox is the way to go. I think I also read (been trying to research this) that Sony may cut the price of the PS3 because it wasn't selling well, so maybe we should wait? :confused3

But we can get the slim PS2 at a decent price at Costco and it comes w/2 games, a memory card, extra controller (or maybe only 1) and it's $199. What to do? What to do?

These video games are getting expensive.:rolleyes1

I don't see that NCAA football or March Madness are being released for PS3 but they are for PS2? I think I read where they are releasing the games for PS2 because the PS3 wasn't selling well and there are sooo many people who own the PS2.

Again, sorry for contaminating the Wii thread.

I meant to post this last Tuesday, but life got busy:
I bought Cooking Mama for my DH and it's actually a really fun game. Alot of movement is required with the remote and its really interactive. A pretty simplified review of the game, but it would be worth a least a rental.

DS11 currently has Marble Mania for the Wii on rental. He likes it a lot! It's kind of reminiscent of monkey ball but different. You can turn the mazes on their sides and turn them over with the wiimote...you actually have to turn them sideways and things in order to complete the mazes. It's really got him hooked at the moment and I had fun watching him play it.

All Right....let me see if I can answer all the questions....

Maybe I just need to buy DS new games. I asked him about SSX and he said he didn't want it. My other son does though, this one just likes the sports. We already have Madden 07 for GC so we'll wait for the 08 to buy it for the Wii but they told me that it ruins your tv. Someone told them they played madden 07 on the wii and it broke their tv?

Whoever told them that has NO CLUE what they are talking about! About the only way to wreck your tv with madden wii is to throw your wiimote though the tv!

Madden 07 on Wii is a blast! Far better of a football game then any I have played in years, and I have owned every madden since about '95 (before that I bought it every other year-rotated with a friend of mine.) While it is true the graphics aren't as good as the 360's I can tell you the play control is 10x's better. I'll trade graphics for play anyday.

SSX is a incredible, fun game, but if you have read my past posts you will know that It has a high learning curve! It took me 2+hours with it before I really got the hang of it and can pull off the uber tricks. This game is NOT for young kids they will get mad at it really quick.

I thought that I heard/read that Sony said they'd support thier systems for a min. of 10 years. How long has PS2 been out?

It's been 6 1/2 years...launched in '00. Sony said they would like to support the PS3 10 years. The ps2 is dead. The last big title just released for it (god of war II)

If you feel you must get one buy it used, and buy the old games, but you will probably be unhappy to have spent the money on it at this time next year.

I don't see that NCAA football or March Madness are being released for PS3 but they are for PS2? I think I read where they are releasing the games for PS2 because the PS3 wasn't selling well and there are sooo many people who own the PS2

NCAA football is releasing for the 360, original x-box, ps2, ps3. Honestly I have a friend that swears by the ncaa games, but they are nothing more then madden wanna be's. (play exactly the same just swap pro teams with college teams)

March Maddness ONLY released on 360 and ps2 this year. No word on what it will release for next year.

I guess the big thing is that if your son will only play sports games you might as well buy the 360. Nintendo has never been a huge sport system. (How old is your ds btw?)

Sadly we won't no about many of the 08 sport releases yet. Best guess NBA, football, fifa, tigger woods, MLB will be on their way. NCAA(football/basketball), NHL probably are also, but I can't confirm it at this time.

If he needs sports gaems to play right now check out Tigger Woods Golf, in June BLITZ the League releases also.

All that said, my theory is that you should buy no more then one game a month. Just my personal theory, but this way you actually have time to play the games you buy. I have a friend that buys almost a game a week!

When I was a kid I was lucky to get a game every 3 months! I'd tell him learn to live with it. That's the problem with kids today no attention spans! (sorry for the rant it was a long day at work)

But Are you seriously considering buying a $200-$400 purchase just so your son can play NCAA football???:confused3

I bought Cooking Mama for my DH and it's actually a really fun game. Alot of movement is required with the remote and its really interactive. A pretty simplified review of the game, but it would be worth a least a rental.
I have heard from everyone that has played this game that they have enjoyed it both for the wii and the ds.

I see how it is Monkeyball like. The game however actually reminds me of Marble Maddness for the original NES way back in the day.
glad he's having fun!

I asked my son about the tv not working etc and said I'd never heard it, I told him their tv was ready to stop working and the game had nothing to do with it. Remember we're talking about kids conversations. He also came home from school one day and said a girl in his class told him that her dogs on Nintendogs died because she hadn't played as in turned on the system in a long time. Now my kids play the DS lite off and on in spurts but never have they turned it on to a dead dog.

I'm not sure why he likes the college games so much. Could have something to do with the fact that I went to Ohio State and we were in the nat'l championships in football (but we forgot to play that game) and are in the Final Four in Bball. He loves filling out brackets etc. He likes playing a season of something with a particular college team. I realize it's the same as the Madden game but just with different games but that is what he likes.

Maybe this will die down after the NCAA championship game and then he'll move on to something else. But he is having a bday coming up (he will turn 11, other son is 9. However he has historical ever since we bought the GC system played the sports games and set up seasons etc.

We usually just buy them games etc for birthdays and Christmas, sometimes we might get them one or two others thruout the year but usually it's just those times. And for those dates they get a total of 3-4 games. I think this past Christmas was the exception when they got 6 video games, but that was because the grandparents bought them just video games and nothing else.

At least with the PS2 there are plenty of used games to be choosing from. XBOX360 sounds like the way to go but that is alot of money. Maybe we can put off buying anything for now and wait til the next Christmas holiday. That would give us more time to save for the purchase etc. And then maybe by then we'll have FIFA 07 and Madden 08 for the Wii and he'll forget all about the NCAA games.

Tyedye,
Sorry If I sounded rude in that past post. It was a long day ( let it be a lesson never post in a bad mood!)

I fully understand, as HUGE OHIO STATE fan I understand where he/you are comming from. The PS2 may be the best way to go, just don't expect to be able to get "new" games for it much longer. And If you can get one cheep I would do it. That system had some really good classic games on it.

Good luck in decideing what to do!

Here are my latest Wiiventures. ;)

I downloaded the new(and free) Wii internet channel for mine this morning. Anyone else have it?

I also downloaded DKC yesterday!!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :dance3:

Oddly enough , THIS is the game that convinced me way back last year when they first released it that I needed the Wii since I heard Nintendo was going to release classic titles.
Donkey Kong Country is what got me REALLY playing video games in junior high.. I have very fond memories of my late father and I playing DKC for HOURS on the weekends..

I don't think there is anyone who is more a master at that game than I.

I was heartbroken when many a friend I had that were 'gamers' told me that the chances of DKC being released for Wii downloading was slim to none since Rare owned the title and they were affiliated with XBox.

Low and behold I saw the title on the 'shop' list yesterday morning. I thought I died and gone to heaven. :cloud9: Now I just need a 'classic' controler since the GC one doesn't 'feel' right when playing the game.

Also..anyone else excited about the new POTC game comming out for the Wii??

If XPlay has taught me anything, it's that video games based on movies/cartoons usually suck. lol :lmao:

Just because they just hurry to make and get them on the shelves for dupe-able parents to buy just cause it has "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" on it for Christmas.

However, I think this game might break the mold as far as this genre of game is concerned. I heard they have actually been taking some time to produce this game. So it (POTC game) MIGHT actually be good. Any thoughts?

Horned King - I had no problem with the tone of your post. I think that most of today's kids are given way too much and forget that their parents have to work for what they have. Plus I know too many families that buy things just to have what the family down the street has.

Two days after we bought our Wii, our kids were so excited they invited a cousin over to play it. So what happens as it always does with this family is they're out the next day looking to buy one. Of course they can't find it so they bought one from ebay. They do this all the time and it's very frustrating for us especially since we make our kids do things to earn the priviledge to play and own the system.

Was out looking today and it does appear that PS2 games will be coming out this year then it will be fewer and fewer. So I doubt I want to spend this money on this system and their games to only need another one in a year. So I think we'll wait and maybe get something at Xmas this year or later.

Now there's the option of getting NDS lite or PSP. The PSP has all the sports games that my son likes however he'd prefer to play them on the tv not a handheld. But owning one of each would allow for a wider variety of games. We got one son the DS lite and were planning to get the other one for the other's bday which is coming up. So now we need to decide DS or PSP.

That Mario and Sonic Olympics looks really good. I showed it to both of my kids and they both said they'd want it.

So now back to a Wii question... If we have a wireless router we can download those virtual console games? I'll have to go check this out. This may satisfy his needs for now to play other games we never had.

One more thing... What is the Wii browser?

I can't get past one level of Twilight Princess and I need some help as to how to kill one of the shadow bugs...

I'm at Kakariko Village as the wolf, and I CAN"T seem to kill the one last bug..
I'll try to describe the bugs position.

It's in one of the houses that you fall through the roof to get to. There is only one bug in the room and it's under a box, and I can't seem to get to it. I've rammed the poor dog into anything available like the dressers, the bed ,and the crate itself, and nothing has moved or scared the bug out.

What do I do??

I was heartbroken when many a friend I had that were 'gamers' told me that the chances of DKC being released for Wii downloading was slim to none since Rare owned the title and they were affiliated with XBox.

While it is true that Rare is now owned by M$...Donkey Kong is a Nintendo owned character and anything that has been made with their characters is ok for them to publish no matter who teh conracted to to make it.

BTW, Horned and Harley..Thank you so much for this thread, I've learned everything about the Wii from here

Sue

No Problem! love to help!

Also..anyone else excited about the new POTC game comming out for the Wii??

If XPlay has taught me anything, it's that video games based on movies/cartoons usually suck. lol

LOL!!! Movie games usually do suck! Not to much is known about the POTC, however my fav gaming site Ign.com has promised a lot more info on it once they get a finished copy to play.((hopeing it's good, I Love pirates and POTC!))

DO NOT BUY A PSP!!! It is an utter piece of garbage. That's abotu as bluntly as I can put it. Load times are horrible. (I played tigger woods on it, I kid you not i hade to wait 2 minutes for a hole to load!), The battery life is bad 2-3 hours tops. And the fact that most of the games are simply ports(copies) of ps2 games. IF he really needs the sports games that bad a used ps2 will be cheaper then the psp.

So now back to a Wii question... If we have a wireless router we can download those virtual console games? I'll have to go check this out. This may satisfy his needs for now to play other games we never had.

One more thing... What is the Wii browser?
The wii browser is a internet browser for the wii. you download it form wiishop (for free right now) with your wifi connection.

Which brings me to part 2...the wireless. As long as you have it connected, yes you can download old games. You will need to buy wii points to spend on the games. I believe my DW(Harley) has info about this on the first post of the thread in teh faq's section.

Ok Last question to answer right now....Man this thread is HOPPIN!

I can't get past one level of Twilight Princess and I need some help as to how to kill one of the shadow bugs...

This one took me a minute to figure out also... now it's been a couple of months since I played it. It sounds like you are in teh explosives storage facility. Once in there pick up a stick(on the ground) light it run into the near by fire with it.then touch the furnace with it! excape as the place will explode and leave the tears of light you need.

Hope I have the right place/bug.
Good luck!

New to the thread and the wii! I haven't read the whole thing yet, but will.

We got my son a wii for his birthday April 9th. We now anxiously wait for him to go to sleep at night so we can play (we set it up and take it down and hide it again every night lol). I can not WAIT until his birthday so we can leave it out!

Anyway, I got it set up with the wireless network and can download the games and got the browser set up. Very cool.

We have sports of course (LOVE tennis and bowling - became a pro today lol. We also like baseball). We got Zelda twikight princess (but haven't played it yet). I bought cook off and godfather the other day. I really like the cooking game - it is growing on me. Godfather is very cool. I started playing it today and I am kind of a game newbie, but am getting the hang of it pretty quickly. Addicting.

My mom bought my son TMNT for Easter - so we will have that as well. Oh, and I got him Open Season too (we haven't tried it yet)

What other games would you reccomend for a 7 year old? He has a gamecube and loves it, so he will be able to use his old games of course (he has a ton). It seems like many of the wii games are older-ish. Of course, he won't be allowed to play godfather, and I am assuming he will get bored with cook off. Sports he will like if we play with him, but not so sure about alone. Not really his speed. TMNT, Open Season, and Zelda he will like I think.

So, other choices for a 7 year old? And, for dh and I (we are having more fun with this than I EVER imagined...)

Thanks hehe, but I already got that one. The one I need to get now is in a room with NOTHING in it but a couple of dressers..2 little boxes , the big box that the bug is under , and a bed.

Also...at the VERY end there is one more bug I need...but I can't find where it is...  It's at the part after he learns about the Howling stone, and Midna has helped him up onto the cliff with the rocks that fall down .
