Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

The internet question was already answered, so games with no reading. Hmmm...I think just about every game involves some reading, but a lot of the mini game games just explain what to do. So if you or your older DD play the games with DD6 and help her she should be totally fine. SO games like Mario Party 8, Wii Play, Rayman. Racing games like Excite Truck don't have any reading and they can be really really fun. I'm sure DH will have more ideas. Most of the licensed games (games made from movies) don't have too much reading since they are geared for the younger kids. So Spongebob, any disney movie game, etc should be okay.

Almost all of the Wii games are very interactive, but the best are Wii Sports (which you already have!) Dance, Dance Revolution, which just came out, Guitar hero (tho I think 6 is a little young for that) and Wii Fit. Wii Fit has this balance board thing and is a fitness game, but it's not out yet.

Yes, we can read her the instructions, as long as she'll be OK after that. Mario Party 8 was definately on our list already! :thumbsup2 DS11 wants Guitar Hero...Is it out already??? I'll have to check out Wii Fit, that definately sounds like fun.

Thanks for your help.

Nope, Guitar Hero isn't out for a couple more weeks.

I think 6 is a great age for the Wii. She should have a ton of fun growing up with the system, it has so much to offer. She'll probably be able to paly Guitar Hero before you know it! I also recommend Wii Play so you can get an extra controller. It's really great for teaching you the nuances of the Wii-mote.

check out www.ign.com for tons of info about games and anything else you can think of. (Just click on the Wii tab at the top of the screen).

Hmmm, I just took a look around the net for prices and noticed that Target, Amazon, WalMart and Costco are out of stock. Yikes! Only Toys R Us has it, for $249. Is this a good price? Will there be more out there soon for the holidays? I'm counting on this for DS from Santa.... I hope there will not be a shortage, like Tickle Me Elmo. There's no way I'm paying above retail for it. I was waiting for it to come to my local Costco to get a good price on it. Is anyone else seeing the same thing?

You won't be finding it any lower then $249. That's the standard price for the Wii and it won't be dropping till demand is low (which won't be happening soon)

So, from that, I reccomend you pick one up soon because once November starts rolling around they'll be really hard to find in the Christmas rush (they're pretty hard to find as it is!) :santa:

They are around my area, NJ. Costco gets shipments, but they go frequently. I've seen them just about every time I go to Target lately. They told me they get shipments about 3x/week. They might still hold them for Sunday if it's in the ad though, so ask when you go there.

Before I started checking at Target last month, I was looking online daily and never found one!

Good luck! Oh, and expect to spend another $100 or so on accessories. We got Wii play that comes with the extra controller, and the Mario Party 8 game. I'll probably by My Sims in a few weeks, and that will have to be enough to last a while!

Anyone have any info on the Dance Dance Revolution game? Is it popular for girls in the 11 - 14 age range? I found one at Walmart, but not too sure about it.

Is the Wii version of Cars different from the Gamecube version?
Yes, you use the Wii-mote to drive. But there have been a couple of reviews on this thread that the game is really hard.

That's definitely the right age for DDR. It's pretty much like every other DDR game out there. Lots of fun. :) http://wii.ign.com/objects/882/882328.html

OK guys, help me put together a list of must haves with the Wii. I already own one but a friend just bought one to put away for her boys for Christmas and she knows nothing about it and asked me to come up with a list of "must haves" to go with it along with their prices. Her boys are 5 & 12.

So Far I have:
Wii Play with extra remote $50
Nunchuck $20
WiiPoints Card $20 (this is used to download older games on the Wii)

Super Mario Galaxy $50 (not yet released-Preorder now)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl $50 (not yet released-Preorder now)
Legend of Zelda $50

Other good games but not necessarily must haves:
Rayman Raving Rabids $40
Mario Party 8 $50

Any hot games I'm missing? What about for the 5 year old, I don't have young kids so I may be out of the loop on that one.

Thanks for any input!

Nunchuck $20 Yep
WiiPoints Card $20 (this is used to download older games on the Wii)Not a necessity unless there are games they actually want to download. I still can't find anything I really want.

Super Mario Galaxy $50 (not yet released-Preorder now)Yep
Super Smash Bros. Brawl $50 (not yet released-Preorder now)yep
Legend of Zelda $50yep

Other good games but not necessarily must haves:

I think 5 year olds will benefit mainly from the licensed games like Spongebob and games they can play with the whole family like Mario Party, Rayman, or Wario Ware. He should be able to play Smash Brothers too.

I think they should consider DDR and Guitar Hero since they don't require reading and can really be fun for everyone.

Am I right that our GameCube Mario DDR will work with the Wii??

Dumb question, I'm sure...Is Wario Ware the Wario from Mario Kart?

DS Lite question - do any of you recommend the skins or case protectors for this? I was going to order some screen protectors from boxwave as that is where I got my screen protector for my camera and noticed they had a flexiskin and a hard case for the DS.

NINTENDO ANNOUNCES NEW WII REMOTE JACKET ACCESSORY

Free Accessory Enhances Grip, Adds Cushioning

REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 1, 2007 – Nintendo announces the Wii Remote Jacket, a durable, silicone cover for the Wii Remote™ that provides a variety of benefits for the player. Nintendo will include the Wii Remote Jacket with all Wii™ hardware systems and with all Wii Remotes sold separately or packaged with Wii Play™. Hardware featuring the Wii Remote Jacket will begin shipping to retailers on Oct. 2 and is expected to be on retail shelves the week of Oct. 15.

The Wii Remote Jacket provides cushioning for the Wii Remote for people who might accidentally throw or drop their Wii Remotes while playing games. Use of the Wii Remote Jacket is meant to supplement, not replace, the basic game-play instructions: keep a firm grip, don't let go of the controller, use the wrist strap and make sure your play area is free of people or objects. The Wii Remote Jacket also serves as a cover for the Wii Remote. Nintendo recommends players use the new Wii Remote Jacket as a cushiony shield, though the current Wii Remote is a safe product when used properly.

"We're always looking for ways to improve our products and make sure everyone has a safe and fun experience," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Many electronics manufacturers provide similar protective covers for products like cell phones, PDAs and MP3 players."

Current Wii owners who want to equip their Wii Remotes with the new Wii Remote Jacket free of charge can go to Wii.com or nintendo.com, or call 1-866-431-8367 to place an order. Nintendo will begin taking orders on Oct. 2, and Wii Remote Jackets will begin shipping the week of Oct. 15.

The Wii Remote Jacket is designed to be added and removed easily, in case users want to slip their Wii Remote into an accessory like the upcoming Wii Zapper™.

The worldwide innovator in the creation of interactive entertainment, Nintendo Co., Ltd., of Kyoto, Japan, manufactures and markets hardware and software for its Wii™, Nintendo DS™, Game Boy® Advance and Nintendo GameCube™ systems. Since 1983, Nintendo has sold nearly 2.4 billion video games and more than 420 million hardware units globally, and has created industry icons like Mario™, Donkey Kong®, Metroid®, Zelda™ and Pokémon®. Yes, and yes! :)

Everyone I've ever seen is a complete waste. They cut down on the sensitivity of the touch screen and bubble up. The hard cases that fit around the outside of the case are okay, but unecessary for all but the most reckless (I can't think of a better word) of owners.

Of course since I feel that way about them, I've never tried one myself so hopefully someone has a good one that has worked for them. i've definitely seen more than my share of cracked, scratched, utterly abused DSs, so I understand the need.

BTW after a few hours of Zelda: the Phantom Hourglass, I'm totally hooked. The game rocks!!!

Thanks! I've been meaning to post that.

I will not be ordering one. I don't want my wii-mote to have a weird-lpoking plastic 'fro:goodvibes , but DH will probably order them anyway! lol:lmao:

Don't remember where the review is, but I can post it again, along with my information.

As for my throughts on it....
Much better then last year, the controls are so much more tuned and easier to use. Just minor adjustments from '07 but hige in the enjoyability of the game.

Graphics wise it's pretty to look at. I'm playing it on a 50" tv ...

Now as for NCAA....a little birdy has been wispering that it may be here next year...Ea is considering it.

Lastly the SIMS DS GAME...sorry your son has just learned a lesson in gameing....it has happened to the best of us gamers (me included)..it least it wasn't worse I did it as a kid about 30 hours into playing a game. Talk about being mad at my self.

hope that answers everything.

Yes, thanks! I'm going to go ahead and get him the Wii Madden '08 game (as a Christmas gift), he said to get the GC version since it was also avail but I think he'll like the Wii, he already has the GC version for previous years, although I keep being reminded that he didn't get the '07 version.

Now if EA will release an NCAA football or basketball he'll be so happy! I mean how much harder is it to create, the games are basically the same, you just need different team names and players. :thumbsup2

I wonder how the FIFA Soccer will be?

Is Phantom Hourglass only for DS? No Wii version right?

Man the DW keeps beeting me to all these questions....thats what happens when you don't actually work at work!

And Yes We Will be ordering the wiimote protection...however I will not be useing it!(since it's free I will get it sent to me though)

-Phantom Hourglass is only on the DS.

-Early reports are good about fifa...if you want a good arcade style soccergame instead a true to life one...look at Mario Strikers Charged.

-NBA Live Basketball just came out this week...have not tried it yet,or seen reviews, but will get the info asap as I'm interested also.

-As for NCAA...I'm pretty sure it's comming(football anyway) next year. I'll keep you updated as I find out more.
