Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

I wish there were some way to sort through a thread. I'm sorry if this has been asked before.

I would love to get my DD (11 yr) Dance Dance Revolution. I see the TRU thread on the B2G1,

So...I assume the $69 is for the game only. Are the dance pads (or whatever you call them)all you need? Where is the best place to get them and do I need more than one.

Also, if you had to pick: Carnival or Mario Galaxy (I have 11 yr twins - DD and DS)

Thanks so much!

TRU thread? Are they having a sale? Please direct me...thanks!

Any thoughts on the My Sims Wii game that came out today?
Is it pretty harmless?

Someone said it is similar to Animal Crossing which my 11 year old LOVES to play on her DS.

Also, has anybody heard anything about the Dance Dance Revolution game that is coming out? Do you think there will be plenty in stores or should I pre-order? Thanks!

MySims review: http://wii.ign.com/articles/820/820713p1.html

I think your description is right on the money. Definitely a more kid friendly version of the Sims. Though I think older kids and adults that love the older games might be disappointed in the depth of the game.

And yes, I believe anyone who wants DDR should preorder it. When Mario DDR came out it was a huge hit and very hard to find. I doubt that will happen here, but better safe than sorry.

I think if you know you want a game you should always preorder it. Many times you get free things from certain stores for ordering through them.

I posted yesterday that I was having a hard time finding one----got one today from Best Buy! Yes!!! I am sooo relieved.
I missed the sale on Sunday but was "told" they would get 30 this week and were not saving them for the flyer. I have been calling them daily and there was a whole display there this morning.

Also, after posting yesterday, I stopped at our local TRU store and was told they were getting 50 in this Sunday. Luckily, I no longer need it.

My question. Best Buy only has the 30 day refund policy, should I open it and see how it works? I don't expect DS to get it until Xmas or even later.

Thx,
lori

Congrats!! The rate of failure with the Wii is very low, so chances are you won't have any problems. Also if you do have problems, Best Buy will tell you to contact Nintendo anyway. Nintendo has a 1 year warranty and they are AWESOME with any customer issues.

But honestly, I would find some time to open it up and try it out so that you are prepared for any glitches on Christmas morning more than anything else. DH and I had a hard time synching our controllers that first day, which would be a bummer for kids wanting to play their new toy.

All my friends are dead excited for My Sims coming out (Friday the 21st in the UK i think) lol thats the only thing they are talking about. So I was wondering before friday if any one had a review for it? That would be great thanks :D

No worries, I don't mind answering questions more than once, it always helps someone.

DDR comes with the game AND the dance pad that's why it's $69 instead of the normal $50. You only need one pad unless two people want to play at the same time. You can trade on and off if you want, but for head-to-head you need two pads. The best place to get them is anywhere that sells the game. They might be scarce right after the game comes out, but should be available later. I also suggest only getting the Nintendo made pad (if there is one). Nintendo makes way better accessories for its systems than the knock off brands. Buying a knock off might save you $10 now, but you'll probably have to replace it whereas I've never had a bad Nintendo accessory.

I'll get back to you about if Nintendo is actually making a dance pad. I also wonder if those of us with a DDR Mario pad might be able to use that as a second pad.

Phhheww! :teeth:

What about these? Thank you so much!!

I KNEW I missed something! :teeth:

Mario Galaxy, no question at all!!!

They are two very different games so it's hard to compare, but Galaxy will be the FAR better game.

Galaxy is an adventure platformer, which means it has a long story and different levels (like the old Mario games if you are familiar), while Carnival is just a mini-game game like Wii Sports. those are a dime a dozen on the Wii, but great platformers are more rare.

Yeah, there was only one title I was halfway interested in.

Oh well!

Man I get busy teaching kids for a few days and the thread goes nuts!!!

let me just hit a few points for all of you that may have missed them...
1) alaxy,DDR,Carnival, ect. are not on the list because Toys r Us DOES NOT include pre-sale(non released) games in their sales. (worked for them more then 10 years you know)
2) Last I heard was that the DDR Mario pad form the GCgame is 100% compattible with the new DDR wii. (I don't not have confermation, it was just the last i heard...it may change before the games release, so keep your eye here for the info)
3)Congrats to all the new owners!
4)No new releases Next week...as the evil that is known as Halo is launching and NO ONE is releaseing anything against it...

5)Anyoen Rememebr the power pad form the original NES??? Well guess what's back!

So far only a release in Japan is set, but I'll keep you posted.

6)WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2008 Hands-on
We head into the ring once again with Wii's debut wrestling experience. Images and direct-feed video included.

It was mentioned a few pages back...so here is the latest hands on report.

Well gotta run...later Wii-ites!

Thanks for the info about the sale at Toys R Us. Online it says selected titles, but I went into the store tonight and it is ALL the ones they have in-stock.

Unfortunately they don't include any that need to be preordered.

I bought a Wii bundle at Costco a few weeks ago for Chrismtas. There are several accessories I plan to buy for sure: extra remotes, remote charger station and several games.

I'd rather wait to buy these items until we get closer to Christmas - specifically for return window just in case there is a problem. Do you think I'll have trouble finding accessories if I wait 2 months? I know the consoles are hard to find -- I'm just wondering what the consensus is regarding accessory availability.

Thanks!

Thanks for pointing this out. Dh and I were talking about it last night. ALL of the games they have in the store are part of the sale.

If we start to notice or hear about any shortages we'll be sure and post on here, so you know to get them then.

I doubt you'll have any problems with the accessories...BUT the accessories are buy 1 get one 1/2 off at Toys R Us right now (the games are buy 2, get 1 free), so you could save a ton of money by buying now. Just make sure you buy the nintendo brand stuff (except the charger since they don't make one).

I would buy now with the sale. Nintendo products very rarely fail and when they do Nintendo is great about replacing things.

Is there a place to get a listing of the games we can download online along with the points required?

Toys R Us here I come! I ordered 3 games on line and will head over to the store at lunch today to grab any others. I'm also going to pick up some accesories on sale.

I'm just wondering if a 2000 pt card is adequate, or if I should grab 2 now with the sale. I'd like to know what's available to help me figure out how many pts I'd like to start with.

THANK YOU all for your input!

Honestly? there's only a couple of games I want to download. If your kids are young, they probably won't like any of the games since they are all old (bad graphics) games.

I llok at the downloads as for the hardcore Nintendo and old school gamers, so we can re-live our favs or get like all of the Zelda's or something.

If you go to download play on your Wii you can see all the games and their points. that's the easiest way to do it.

This is a list of all the games with review scores from IGN, but you have to click on them to see the points.

Are the points cards b1g1 1/2 off too? I didn't even think of that!

My son is just-turned 7 and is quite a good gamer. We have a gamecube and the following games I plan to keep: Cars - (he loves by the way), an old version of Madden, old version of NBA, Super Monkey Ball. So I guess we'll keep the keep the spare controller to the gamecube right?

I bought the Wii for his bday and am thinking of getting about 3 new games... Rayman sounds fun, and he has NO experience with Mario so I thought I'd expand his horizons a little bit.

What other "kid" games do you suggest? My DD is 5 and NOT very good at gaming, is there a girly game that is somewhat easy?

BOTH my DD's are HSM freaks... what do you think the new game coming out will be like? Easy or hard??

Also my son loves Call of Duty on our computer...should I automatically get the COD 3 or are there others I should consider instead?

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

First of all Welcome!!

Yes, keep your gamecube controller.

I bet your son will love Mario Galaxy.

I think your DD might like Mario Party 8 as long as you play it with her so she can win! :teeth: It's hard for some girls to get into gaming when our brothers are always beating them at everything.

HSM is a sing-a-long game like Boogie. Here's more info:
http://wii.ign.com/objects/899/899662.html
I don't think it'll be too hard and I'm looking forward to playing it. I'm reserving judgement til I know more, but I think this one might be perfect for your DD.

Is your daughter playing any games at all? I've found that most girls (myself included) prefer to play Nintendo DS games, because there are a ton of girly ones. Does she have a gameboy or anything? It might be worth it to get her gaming that way and then ease her into the Wii stuff.

I think she might really like MySIMs (came out Tuesday). It's a nice safe game without competition where she gets to build towns and make characters. It looks like your best option right now, IMO. I suggest renting anything for her you can since she's likely to be a lot more picky than her brother! Here's more info: http://wii.ign.com/articles/820/820713p1.html

If your son is already a COD fan then I think COD 3 is a no brainer. There really aren't any other comparable games on the Wii yet.

HTH Let me know if I missed anything! :teeth:
