Official Wii/DS Q/A thread. FAQ in first post! Game reviews in second post!

NYKO is bringing out a rechargeable battery for the mat June 4th. We have NYKO rechargable batteries for our wii motes and it works perfectly fine. As for the mat, it is HIGHLY recommended you have the mat if you are using it on carpet. I would much rather pay the $ for the mat then having my board wear out after only having it for a year, but thats just me.

Thanks for the info. We also have the Nyko charger for the wii motes and it's the only brand I usually feel comfortable recommending.

I'm also not saying not to buy a mat. But if Nintendo thought that wearing it out on carpet was really easily possible, I think they would have their own version to profit on. (and, who knows, it might be forthcoming). Now logically, I think it makes sense, especially if you can find a cheap yoga mat somewhere.

There are more big games coming before Christmas and Wii Fit will be available widely in a couple of months, so hold off for now.
What are the new "big" games coming out between now and Christmas? Recent "big" game purchases in our house were Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart. Hadn't heard him talk about anything else forthcoming yet.

I guess the biggest games announced are GH Aerosmith, Rock Band, and Lego Indiana Jones and Batman. I still have hope that Animal Crossing will come out this year.

But every game company releases something REALLY big for the Christmas season. I really thought they would delay Mario Kart until then, but they have to have something up their sleaves.

But I think both Wii Fit and GH3 are very good choices for Christmas gifts!

Was at costco yesterday and they had the wii fit, one per customer. I had the last one but I didn't purchase it. I felt like I was just buying it because I could, because there was one and it was it's first day, not because I wanted to use it and with the price of food, gas, and utilities lately I can't be making impulse purchases. So those that have it lets hear how you like it etc.

I don't see myself or kids exercising to a video game but I could be wrong. They play a few sports and use the video games for down time between practices and homework.

costco has it for $79.99. they also sell the $50 games for $43.99 instore. great deals!!

Well played wii fit little bit last night and played again for an hr today. I love it! However the strength training is HARDDDDDDDDDDDDD. OMG the push ups - I wanted to DIE! :lmao: Anywho, plan on doing it daily for at least an hour. Already unlocked some stuff so thats cool. :thumbsup2 DH tried the hula hoop last night and he was trying to hard! :rotfl: I thought it was really easy. Heres a tip: put your hands on your waist while your moving your hips and move your hips nice and easy in a big circle. DH when he was doing it he could just not get circling your hips! :confused3 :rotfl: Instead it looked like he was trying to shake his butt to much :lmao: Anyways, picked up We Ski as well last night. Played for little over an hour. About 45 minutes of that 1 hr was being in school and learning how to ski! OMG they teach you soooooooo much that by the time I got done, I forgot what I learned during the first half of the class :rotfl: Anywho, its a good game and if you want to do something other then wii fit, We ski is a nice change and alternate! :thumbsup2 I do recommend on getting it. Im not really into skiing, and never been skiing before, but I fully enjoy this game! :thumbsup2 Oh yea and 1 more thing about wii fit - you can download the wii fit channel when you pop the game in for the 2nd time. It allows you to do your daily body test without have to insert the game.

Oh yea and for those who havent gotten wii fit yet but will be, make sure you insert the wii fit disc into the wii first THEN sync the wii mat to your wii. The instructions are NOT clear on that. It just says to press the SYNC button on the mat and wii and thats it. I had to get online to look it up. DH and I spent like an hr trying to figure out how to SYNC it! Anyways, also to turn on your wii mat, you have to insert the disc first, click on the game on the wii menu, and when it gets to the title screen, THEN you can turn the wii mat on. You cant turn the wii mat on before you get to the title screen of the game.

What is the difference between We Ski and the skiing game in Wii Fit?
I bought the We Ski game also but didn't open it yet. I didn't realize that the Wii Fit had a skiing game in it, so I was thinking of returning it. Do you think it is worth keeping?

I hope others will follow your lead.

Theres a HUGE difference between the 2. First off skiing and snowboarding in wii fit is pretty simple and VERY short. You just ski or snowboard a round and thats it. We Ski, they teach you EVERYTHING you need to know on how to play the game. We Ski also allows you to do tricks, interact with other characters, get your picture taken, go on missions, compete, customize your outfits, unlock new outfits, etc. The only 2 major gripes I have about We Ski is that they give you the entire mountain straight off to explore. I wish it had more of an incentive to play like unlock parts of the mountain (think of mario kart wii and unlocking cups) and not just outfits. I also wish they made it online as well. Like you being able to compete against other players around the world.

I REALLY hope they do just as good of a job if not better on the upcoming harry potter game as the last one for the Wii. They did an AWESOME job for the order of the phoenix. Hopefully they keep the same style, allowing you to go around all of hogwarts and explore every section of the castle and grounds. Hopefully the new one wont be a complete dud.

Hi all,
I have a dumb question that may well have been answered in the first 152 pages (but I sure can't find it!).

Anyway, I see on the first page the talk about hooking up to the internet---if I don't want to download games, do I HAVE to hook up to the internet? It sounds like a hassle!
Obviously I don't have a Wii yet, but I'm thinking I may get myself one as a reward for finishing the lit. review on my Master's thesis :goodvibes cause I certainly could use a nudge---can you tell how hard I'm working right now? :yay: :rotfl:

You have to be connected to the internet to receive updates for the wii itself which is what you want. Nintendo also has it now to where if theres an update for the wii, you have to update it before you can even play a game. So yes you should be connected to the internet. Its no hassle at all. Especially if you are wireless. All you have to do is go under the wii system settings, go to the internet and follow the on screen prompts. Takes like a whole minute to set it up. If your not wireless, all you have to do is buy the adapter, plug it into the usb port in the back and go to the wii system settings and to the internet and follow the on screen prompts. Oh and you also have to be connected to the internet if you ever wanna play online (example - mario kart) and if you wanna download any extra channels in the wii ware section of the wii shop channel.

We both loved OotP too. I loved using the map. I hope they make it a bit more exciting though as I never finished the game because it was kinda boring.

Not dumb at all. No you don't have to connect to the Internet if you don't want to FOR MOST GAMES, but the system does have a lot of free channels that you'd be missing out on. The Wii Ware channel is just finally getting going, so keep your eye on info about it in case there is anything you want. And you may have to connect to get updates.

Its really not all that hard to do.
