Ever accidentally run more than the training plan called for? We had a 3.5 mile last night. I should mention we had weekend company and had missed two prior training runs. We headed out on a new trail, and checked the mileage we did in the car afterwards. We did over 4 miles, unplanned. And on pace. Whew! I had sore jello legs at the end, but was pretty proud of our "mistake". I guess we just jumped up a week on our training.![]()
That is great and it shows you just how much fun an unplanned exercise period can be. Can be very helpful when you listen to your body and just carefully go with the flow.
Not really a "training plan" type of guy, rather a "need to do this today" type.
eg. Saturday, while watching the Olympic bicycle road race I decided to go out for my exercise and knew how much time was left before the end. Went out for a 10K but when I got to 4 miles I just needed to do more. Did 14 miles, missed the end of the race but it sure did feel good. Yesterday did a 101 mile bicycle ride.
Like I mentioned, not a "training plan" type of guy and I think I am better because of it. I let my body tell me what to do as I am going along.
Note, having the required base mileage before going real long is an absolute must. Build up the base and the fun can begin with minimal concerns regarding injury.
Good luck with your continued training and races.
