Actually the first order of business is getting the opposite end working first. Definitely not a great idea to pound down a half gallon of fluids until you are urinating again. But the time DLR is onboard, that should be OK. The Aisle seat is a great idea, also.

Ok...TMI here but I do have a question... After my very first half las year at wdw, I was having a hard time shortly after. Thought I was gonna pass out, felt like I had a bladder infection type pain. So. Figured I needed to hydrate and started drinking lots. It took me hours to pee. Is this normal? Did I not drink enough early on? :confused3

Not really a doc but yes, it can be normal. It occurs because bloodflow is shunted to the urinary tract ago preserve precious fluids. Not sure if that pain was present while in the finish line area or not. If it happens again, go to the med tent and ask to weigh yourself before 'drinking a lot'. Hyponatremia (low blood sodium - or too much water)) is a real concern at the end of a race. They present the same symptoms and drinking a lot of plain water can compound the hyponatremia. I would drink no ore than a couple bottles at the finish and then only to thirst.

Otherwise, it can take 2-4 hours before flow resumes.

ADDED - I am also assuming you are not taking a NSAID 24 hours pre-race, during race or immediately post race. NSAIDs (non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs) include aspirin, Aleeve/naproxin, ibuprofen and other pain meds. These can put the kidneys under stress when participating in an endurance event. If you need an onto inflammatory, take Tylenol. It is the only family of meds that docs say are safe for a marathon runner.

So the temps today were a shocker! I've been walking a lot but it's mainly because it was so hot, but today.....60º. It was cold with the breeze but it felt good.
I had my first initial interval run today, I did a 1 minute run/1 minute walk for 1.5 miles. It went better than I thought it would. This seems like a good interval pace for me. DS15 went with me so at first I was pacing him (he's an XC runner) but since he had practice this morning and already did 3 miles he opted to fall back and walk. He said it seemed like I was getting farther with each run segment but to me it felt like I was going slower so I'm not sure if he just slowed down or what.

Yesterday I walked the green in 29 minutes, today I did it in 23:32. According to my galloway app I had a 15.1 average pace, so right on target for what I need for WDW. I probably could have gone again but I'm trying really hard not to over train. My mind is ready but my body is not.

But I think I have a real shot at the 1/2. Now I wait for payday to roll around so I can register. Gonna have to do it soon! They are at 57%.

I'll be at the Peachtree too. The heat has really gotten bad this week! I've also signed up for the Alien half in Roswell on August 18th - it is at night but I am still afraid it will be blazing hot. Fun that you are going for the C2C!

What wave are you on the Peachtree. The Heat is really getting to me. It does not even motivate me to run.

I will not see a sub 70F temp until October, maybe. Enjoy!

Ok, just like a PP, I too have to return home after the marathon. I'm traveling to MI so if I can get a direct flight it will be about 2.5 hours. I am planning to find a flight that is later in the day / night before I head out. Depending on my schedule I may try to get out early Monday morning.

I have compression socks, should I be wearing those during the marathon AND on the flight home, or just one or the other? What other things do I need to be aware of. I honestly didn't think of the issue of flying home that day.

Thanks

It is a remote issue..... But one to consider

I will let you judge as to whether race socks will work later in the day.. But if I only had one pair I would reserve for post race versus race. In my career I have had just enough friction issues that I would not re-wear the socks until laundered.

As a pp indicated, try for an aisle.

I will probably be doing this as well. I flew home the same day after the Princess half in February.

The only advice I have is to wear compression socks and keep moving your legs. I was in a lot of pain the two days after the half because I was sitting in one position for 3 hours. Stand up and stretch if you can--I wish I had! It might be worth it to try to get the exit row (or if it's an airline like US Airways, pay ahead of time).

Correct. No NSAIDs here. I guess I didn't realize it could take that long to flow again. I felt waaayyyyy better then. :confused3

70s? I'll be lucky if I see temps in the 80s before the fall. :)

Well, we usually don't go below 66-67 all year long. And the highs stay below 85-86 all year long. I am just saying.:hippie:

I have come to enjoy running here. I run outside for 4 out of my 5 runs a week. Only go inside because the gym as new treadmills and other machines.

Enjoy!

I would kill for 80s right now.

You know I'll say this about Denver. It's a nice city to live in but the weather is not the greatest to run in, unless you're talking spring or fall. Most of the year it is either freezing your butts off or so hot that all you want to do is stay inside an air conditioned room all day. Today is no different with it reaching almost a 100 here. To say the least once again I'm running indoors. Two out of my three running days are spent on a threadmill to avoid the weather (three of the other days of the week is usually cross training with maybe one other day being a rest day every other week).

Then with the more than a half dozen fires popping up all around the state maybe its best not to be running outside right now. Even if it the nearest fire about 30 minutes north of here is relatively small compared to the likes of High Park and Waldo Canyon. But with the fire helping weather were having anything could spread anywhere at this point it feels like.

Well, since we are talking about the weather:lmao:. It finally stopped raining last night. We got more than 10 inches! Most of the rivers are flooded, but the rivers we are near are huge so they are fine. Our backyard is a huge mud puddle so the dogs are having fun:rolleyes1. Run today was just as wet as my last one in the rain with the crazy high humidity and my legs are super tight, I need a massage!
Decided to register for the W&D 1/2 too, should be a fun race and it will be different for me since I have only ever run morning distance races.
Getting excited about all the fun races I am planning! Need to figure out which resort I am going to stay at for the full, torn between Poly, BC and POFQ. Mostly will depend on $!! When will they open reservations online for 2013? I want to compare prices.

Bephus, glad you are safe. Hope you dry out soon. As far as being able to book online for 2013, rates should be available in August. You can call now and get 2012 rates for comparison if you are impatient. ;)

I am in F, what about you? I am with you on the heat! I can only do early mornings now. Starting to really question signing up for that August half.

Sorry, don't mean to butt in, but...I'm also in F for the PRR! And I'm really not looking forward to my run tomorrow. It was supposed to be a 13 miler, but there is no way that's happening thanks to a poorly timed doctor appointment. Every time I get discouraged about my runs becoming slower and slower I have to keep reminding myself that the summer temps won't be around forever! I'm trying to convince myself that I'm going to see a vast improvement this fall! Somehow I feel like I may be setting myself up for failure.

Yay!! Definitely not butting in, thanks for sharing. I figured there must be more on here doing the Peachtree. And I think the same way about the heat - I love how much faster I am in the fall and how it feels so much easier. I just get through the hot and humid ones at whatever speed (or lack thereof!) that I can! Hope your run today is/was good.

Jealous of the rain some of you are getting!! STL hit a high of 107 yesterday, with heat advisories (and no rain) trough the 4th. They're canceling firework displays, and some cities around us are even banning shooting any on the fourth due to heats and dryness. Our grass is so crunchy, I don't think we've had to mow for a few weeks! I love summer heat, but this is a bit extreme! :confused3

So on the running topic, does anyone have an iPhone app they like for training? I couldn't find a free couch to 1/2 app, sobi downloaded the free C25k, and I like it, but I guess there's no way to modify it. It's started me at only 30 min including warm up and cool down, then 30 sec running, 1:30 walking. I'd like to kick it up just a smidge-any tips?
