I loop but nothing near that tight. Yikes, I would be on the couch early. Though this summer, I have been TM'ing and that is a little worse than looping, especially when it is located in the house

TM'ing?

Just figured it out. LOL

I'm a loop loather during a race but during a practice run I'll take it... I've run a 1 mile stretch of road 6 times in a row to get up to the mileage I needed just because it was relatively straight, lacking in traffic, flat-ishand shaded. During a race, I don't want to have to pass the finish line and keep going! I have seen running groups that go out and do long runs with water/sports drink stations set up along the way, so that might be what I need to do come fall.

The one thing that scares me about not being relatively close to home is that if that something does go wrong and starts to hurt (like it did on a run last week) I'd like to not have to walk a few miles and/or take the bus to get back.

I do loops and out and backs, just depending on my mood and the distance. I have a 1 mile loop (my road actually), a 5K loop, a 5.5 mile loop, a 6 mile O&B, and an 8 mile O&B that combine to make long runs sometimes. It can be nice to run a mile, come home and deal with any GI issues that didn't work out pre-run and then continue on.
I try to run with a local group for most of my Sunday long runs and we always have several water stops and at least one spot on the course with gatorade that we pass at least 2 times (usually on an O&B run). Love having that stop:lovestruc

I am an out and back kind of girl. I am dreading the inevitable loop runs as my mileage creeps up so I can re-load on water, and also because the greenway where I do my long runs is "only" 7 miles long one way. I am hoping I have the will power to get to my car after 2 plus hours of running and turn around and keep going...

was just reading a blog on the columbus marathon site and ran across this.. I just found it pretty cool. In case anyone here is still on the fence about making the leap to do it

If you’re still unsure of which race is the right fit for you, race director Darris Blackford chimed in on Facebook with his words of wisdom:

Darris Blackford: The real question isn't whether to do the ½ or the full, but whether to be like most of society, including many of your co-workers, neighbors, maybe even family and friends, and do nothing - or get out there and do something. I DISLIKE when anyone uses the phrase "It's only" a ½, or "I am slow" in the marathon. You all are inspiring someone (and you might not even know who that someone is out there watching, paying attention, wanting to be like you) with your efforts. Now get out there and pick one, either ONE, and have fun, you hear? :-)

I LOVE that, I have seen a few quotes that are similar, and they always make me smile. I have had a few people message me to tell me that I inspired them to start running, and i am by no means a fast runner. It makes me feel so good when someone says something like that!

Got an email of my RnR 10k medal today! Excited for this one.

Fuel Belt-love mine, like having what I need on demand.

Loops, out and backs-I do both. For my long runs, I drive to the bike trail and start in the middle. Then I can go out and back one way, refill bottles half way through, and still have the "no way out but back the way you came" once I get going again. The trail is only 8.75 miles long, so I have to do the whole thing PLUS for my runs over 17. But its flat and partly shaded, so its ok.

I do a figure 8 loop for my short runs, sometimes I can make it longer by adding another loop. Plus my neighborhood has lots of cul de sacs and half circle streets, so I have found I can add some easy mileage by just running in circles:dance3:

Thank you for this. As one who lets herself feel inferior for "only" doing the half, I needed this. I still can't even let myself say "running" because I'm still walking more than I'm running. Silly, I know.
Whichever race we're all doing, we're setting goals and training our ***** off, and we're all being a part of something amazingly awesome!!

I never in a million years thought I would be complaining about how everything is so close together when it seemed so spread out in the car.... I don't even know where I'd go for a 20 mile run.

I need to either get bigger flasks for my belt or add on. When I went out yesterday I took both, one water the other 1/2 Gatorade 1/2 water and took 16 oz bottle. I had bigger ones I wanted to take but the darn kids took all my cold ones for soccer practice.:headache: At the end when I was really dying I luked out and the doors were open on our first aid building (DH is a memeber) so I took advantage of spousal privledges and flew in an grabbed a bottle out of their fridge. Actually wished I had grabbed two! I've done races with just my belt and been fine with the on course water stops.

Anyone have a Nathan belt with flaks that are bigger than 10 oz? Not sure I could run with a Camel back. My back sweats so much as it is.

Anything Nathan tends to work well. Amphipod is another bottle system that has had a lot of thought behind it. Though as you get out longer, no belt will hold everything you need for the run without supplementing. the belt's capacity.

When I know that I am headed out for a longer run I bring my CamelBack FlashFlo. It's not a back pack, rather a waist/hips bladder pack. It holds 50 oz water in a bladder. The cool thing about this system is that it has a cinch system so there is limited sloshing. Mine is 12 years old and still works. Here is a link.

http://www.camelbak.com/Sports-Recreation/Packs/2012-FlashFlo-LR.aspx

I cannot run with the sloshing and bouncing from a bottle system... nor can I run with the taste of hot water or sport drink. And it gets hot through October here in Houston. The bottle work around is to freeze the bottles half full the night before then top off the bottles on the way out the door. But I can fill my flashflo bladder with ice and in it's container, the drink stays cool until nearly empty.

LOVE the New York RnR medal! I found about that race too late, it falls in the middle of my quest for Half Fanatic status, and it is the day I run in Staten Island for my second of 3 Halfs! Have fun!

You're running the SH 1/2? Awesome!!!

DH wanted for us to do that one but it's the day I'm running the Diva 1/2.

Consider yourself lucky. According to a friend who did last year's, it's a terrible race.

The RnR is terrible? Why?

Re: hydration packs-

I just got a Nathan backpack style. I love it. It was super comfortable and it was great running without anything around my waist. Didn't love the plastic-y taste that I am sure will subside. I love the pockets on the front of the straps as I carry Ventolin, my iphone (often on call when I run) and a hankie.

I tried on several kinds but this was the most comfortable, and the only one without a lot of anything under my arms where I sometimes get chafing from shirt seams etc.

Very happy with my purchase.
