Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

I do not believe the Nike watch can help you 'plan' out a run ahead of time. But it will record your pacing, speed, and distance. I am not sure if it does heart rate monitoring. Garmins, Timex, and the newer Polar models like the RC3 can do all that plus the heart rate monitoring. Some watches will allow you to create training plans, handle intervals for walk/run, etc.

If you want to plan out a run ahead of time. You can use www.mapmyrun.com which is great for mapping out a route, and then printing it out or and/or saving it for future use.

Some Nike GPS watches have the option to hook up to a Polar heart rate strap via Bluetooth. If you go to Nikerunning.com it will give you a chart showing what each device does. I'm wondering if there is a site showing all brands that lets you compare features.

Who's wearing a costume and how are they coming along in being made?

I WAS going to wear something that mimicked Stitch (he's my fave), but then thought how cute it would be if I was Angel and DH was Stitch. He's not going for it, so I'm just sticking with a pink top and my black/pink CW-X tights and a black or pink sparkle skirt because the Revolution tights are a bit sheer, topped off by my pink Newtons. Pink is my theme I guess. If I could find Angel ears, I might wear them. Maybe I'll crochet some and attach them to my hat. DH just got some orange Brooks and he's going to find an orange running shirt to mimic his favorite character Tigger.

Thank you all for the prayers for my mom. Unfortunately we lost her over the weekend. I'm still planning to run the Goofy and expect she'll somehow be there with me.
I managed 6 miles yesterday. I stayed on the treadmill because of snow and ice. I did run 15 sec/walk 45 sec intervals without foot pain.

Amanda- so sorry to hear about your mom. She will be your guardian angel at Goofy, and you will make her proud no doubt.

I lost my mom 9 years ago, before I started running. But when I run (since I don't listen to music or anything) I "talk" to her sometimes (I know, weird). But I will tell you there have been times when I have been struggling and suddenly it feels like someone has their hand on my back pushing me. And I know its her. Helping me along, as she always did.

I'm going as Minnie Mouse! the girlfriend sparkle skirt (complete with tail) with homemade ears and polka dot bow. The ear headband I bought at Disney and wore for the W&D was way too tight and downright painful so I made my own clip in ears... Given the chillier temperatures, I'm bringing a black tank top and a 3/4 sleeve red top so I've got some more options depending on the weather.

Oh and on the subject of Garmin failure, does anyone else ever have a problem getting it to charge? And then keep having the screen go blank? Mine chose this weekend to fail me.

I am so sorry for your loss. We grieve with you. And given her support for your running, I am sure she will be with you cheering you forward. Love to you and your family.

I'm so sorry about your mom, Amanda. You will definitely be running with an angel for the Goofy. Sending hugs and pixie dust to you and your family. :grouphug:

It's the RS200. I have had it for five years so I doubt it does that. So if I understand correctly it lets you keep track of how fast each mile or any distance you run is as you are going along? Can you map a run and figure out the distance before you run it? I know; I'm not too savvy...my kids have to help with the VCR remote!

YES! The RS 200 IS Foot Pod Capable. Go to the Amazon and look for a Polar S1 Foot Pod. You can get Distance and Pace on your Polar. One thing you must do is calibrate to assure you are getting correct information.

I am dressing as a middle age runner looking to finish

Oh man we're dressing alike! I might have to change my costume so people don't think we did it intentionally.:lmao:

Thanks for all the help in the last months Coach! It's so appreciated!

What is the difference?

I wear my CW-X tights but my gastroc got super tight w/pain @ mile 15 on Friday.
Stretched, rolled, heat, Tylenol over the weekend.
Soleus is tender to the touch.
Had a soleus partial tear in March.
Will the sleeve help?

I planned on 17 miles this week, then taper.
Or should I just rest?

I'm so sorry for your loss, Amanda.

@VernRDH - Your post about "talking" to your mom on your runs made me tear up a bit...what a beautiful thought.

Well, the last run of the year is done and for the first time ever, I kept an accurate training log of my swims, bikes and runs.

I didn't log too much indoor training (stretching, yoga, strength, spinning etc), but hope to do a better job with that next year.

Being a "come back" year for me after two shoulder surgeries and starting the year in a walking boot, I am pleased. In 2012, I swam 179,426 yards, rode 3335 miles and ran 812 miles.

Thats good enough for me to go from my house to Disney World.........more than 6 times.
