RunRookie said:I do not believe the Nike watch can help you 'plan' out a run ahead of time. But it will record your pacing, speed, and distance. I am not sure if it does heart rate monitoring. Garmins, Timex, and the newer Polar models like the RC3 can do all that plus the heart rate monitoring. Some watches will allow you to create training plans, handle intervals for walk/run, etc.
If you want to plan out a run ahead of time. You can use www.mapmyrun.com which is great for mapping out a route, and then printing it out or and/or saving it for future use.
Some Nike GPS watches have the option to hook up to a Polar heart rate strap via Bluetooth. If you go to Nikerunning.com it will give you a chart showing what each device does. I'm wondering if there is a site showing all brands that lets you compare features.
