Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

Cruz91.... I-O!

Good job on getting your 22 in! I'm not quite psyched up for my 20 miler this weekend. The number is intimidating right now. The weather looks like possible snow! Hopefully I can work it in over the 4-day weekend. A Christmas present for myself, right?

You can do it!!! As I said, I did 22 this past weekend and it was good (aside from forgetting the band aids). But I also did 20 the weekend before (hated to do two long weekends in a row, but I had to fit it in). That 20 miler was on the Friday where it rained ALL DAY, my WHOLE RUN! Just put one foot in front of the other, then repeat! ;-)

I'm 29015 for the Goofy, but I think I may not make it. I canceled my reservation at POP because I didn't think I could make the trip. Today, I came up with brilliant ideas for affording it all, but there's no availability at any resort other than deluxe and ft. wilderness. :(
I'm holding out some hope, though...

Not sure what you budget is but there are rooms in the Marriott Village. The Fairfield has a $99 rate. The Village has bus transportation to the parks, but not the expo or race... Though you can make a couple transfers to get to the expo. On race morning, a taxi will get you to the race and you can take the Village bus back. All this predicated on not having a car.

There are rooms from Holiday Inn and others on Hotel Plaza just on the outside of DTD. Walkable from the hotel to Saratoga Springs where you could grab a marathon bus.

Hypothetically, if I take a second week off of running and start back up next Tuesday, will the two weeks off be a huge hit to my fitness level? I'm trying to wrap my head around possibly still being able to do this. Both doctors I've seen were pretty confident I could recover in time without further injury.

If you only ran a shake out run the week prior to the weekend you would more than likely be good to go. You may need to drop a little off pace.

Good Luck

I've got a reservation at CBR that I'm not going to be using. I plan on canceling it this week, so maybe there's a way for you to pick that up from me.

What I've always heard is 'you'll forget how to go fast before you forget how to go far'. I'd say you should be fine:)

Hello all,

My friend just printed out her waiver and finds out that RD has her down for participating in the full. She and I are supposed to be doing the half. My registration is ok.

She has been in contact with RD but first call the person said there are no changes.

Has anyone had this happen or know someone that this happened to? RD can't tell me that this has never happened before. I am sure it has.

RD said she can go to Packet Pick up and find a race official to plead her case. Even with that they said there is guarantee that she will get a spot in the Half???!! She's paid the money for registration and hotel and is pretty stressed out.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

If she truly registered for the half, then she should print out her registration confirmation--which would indicate that-- and bring it to race relations. If it is a mistake on RD part, then I expect it would easily be corrected.

On the other hand, if she mistakenly registered for the full then yeah, she can try to get it adjusted at the Expo. I have no experience on whether this will work or not, except for once I tried to get into the 5k last minute at the Princess Expo an it was a no go.

Good luck to her

Thanks. This was her first time ever to register and I wasn't with her when she was filling out the form. So I am guessing she mistakenly registered for the full in error. So she had no idea what to look for on the form. Hopefully she will get switched. Otherwise she will not go if they won't guarantee her a spot. So I'll be going solo. :(

I would bet that she is not too likely to prevail. However, you never know. Disney is full of magic and if she finds the right person at the runner's relations desk at the expo, she may get lucky. I would not hit the expo early in the day; rather wait until the mid afternoon when the crowds are lower and the most senior race official on duty will have time to listen.

Good Luck

I would not count on them switching her at all. The bibs are pre-printed, so where would they even get a bib from? I tried to switch from the full to the half in November and was told there was not a possibility as it is sold out. Honestly, if I had to defer the Princess when I could have played dumb and said I meant to register for the half in January, I would be a little ticked....

I am not disagreeing& only saying that if one catches the right person at the expo, one does not know for sure. There are a few extra bibs at the expo that are used as replacements in the event a bibs chip is dead or for other issues. If I were to put odds on magic happening, I would say minimal. I think it a tough hurdle to cross when the entry was a mistake and went unnoticed for months. However, Disneys mission in life is to make every guest as happy as possible.

[ADDED] - maybe this is false hope. If the person with the issue were thinking of not travelling without a certain spot, I would probably not hop the plane.

It's a possibility. I'm just saying I know there were a LOT of people (myself included) who registered for the Full with good intentions due to the anniversary year, but realized they just weren't ready for the full. I know I'm not the only one, and we were all told we could not transfer to the half for any reason.

Now, if she has her proof of confirmation saying "Half Marathon" on it and this is a clerical error, that is a completely different circumstance and that should definitely be resolved.

Also, I know some may object, but there are people looking for marathon bibs...and people trying to unload half bibs...

Yeah she's on the phone with RD. Uphill battle for sure.
Not promissing. Maybe she can have a credit applied for a future race like TOT. Thanks for the tips. I'll fill out her form for next year to make sure it's correct. :)

I did find this transfer form but had she done this prior to 12/1 they still may not have done it due to it being sold out since September. But good to know if anyone ever wants to take a chance in the future.

yeah, that's exactly what I'm talking about. I tried to defer in November, long before the deadline, and was unable to because the race was full. I was, however, able to transfer to the Princess. Woe is me that I will have to make another trip to Disney World. Good thing I don't live too far ;)

Honestly, I wouldn't even count on them transferring her fee this late in the game, but I guess there's always a shot..

Did she, in fact, mistakenly register for the full? (Did she check her confirmation email that she received way back when she registered?) I'm just curious as to whether runDisney made the mistake here.

Also, speaking of runDisney mysteries, has anyone actually received an email announcing that waivers are available or some such thing? I still have not received any communication whatsoever from runDisney, zero emails since I registered for the race. (I am registered, though, so no worries there). I contacted runDisney twice asking about this and never received any responses.

well am feeling better and tried going for a long today and only made it about a mile when I started coughing really bad. It felt like it lasted 5 minutes. I'm sure it didn't but it sure felt that way. I will give it a few more day then try again..
