Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

Already sent MT an email, waiting to hear back.

Also - you guys can understand my pain... I forgot to wear two strategically placed bandaids on my 22 mile run this past weekend. Holy crap, that hurt! DW didn't have much sympathy for me - but I know anyone else who has done it would.

I'll bet you do not forget the two bandaids again. Makes facing the shower just little painful. My brother ruined his favorite shirt in his one and only marathon due to a rainy then sunny marathon.

Oh yeah. I got lucky this weekend after I forgot, but had a good shirt on, which lead to only mild issues. Won't be forgetting next week.

Had a nice 20 this weekend. I was out for four days with the stomach flu, but was able to run full strength 10 on day 5, 8 on day six and then the long run. First 5 mile loop felt looooonnnggg for some reason, but then I settled down and clipped off the rest quickly. Finished averaging 7:39. After doing a relatively fast 8 the day before, I'm now considering running the second half of Goofy faster than I had been planning. If it doesn't work I can always slow down.

Did you register on active using the MT code they sent when you registered? My training partners were able to find their waivers and we used MT.

Grr... Nevermind. I forgot the search function is working better on DisBoards than I'm used to. I'm in Corral E with 1900 of my closest friends! ;-) I was in THE LAST corral last year - so this will be a change for me.

I have the waterproof bandaids and I just realized I am still wearing them from my long run yesterday

:thumbsup2

Cruz91.... I-O!

Good job on getting your 22 in! I'm not quite psyched up for my 20 miler this weekend. The number is intimidating right now. The weather looks like possible snow! Hopefully I can work it in over the 4-day weekend. A Christmas present for myself, right?

The buses stop sometime after 4 AM and then resume around 7 AM. The Final Instructions will have a more exact time for this year with the new course configurations.

Note that on occasion the buses will resume quicker than the advertised time. Also, for the half, the path back into Epcot Parking jams for the buses and can create a real traffic snafu. From the Boardwalk and POR/OKW areas, my wife has had no issue getting to the finish line in a timer manner; even when I was running a 2 hour half.

Cewait are you going to post that map for the walk from POR? Thanks!!
I looked at your picture of the Goofy medal on the side for the first time using reading glasses. This whole time without glasses I thought it was a picture of a stack of pancakes!!:rotfl:

This is from the registration building of POR FQ and uses a cast member maintenance road to avoid Bonnet Creek. There are a few folks using Bonnet Creek, also. Either will work. I have run the maintenance road a few times when trying to loop a longer run together while avoiding the main streets.

As a disclaimer, since we are in waiver season.... This is not a Disney approved way of getting to the marathon. You can get to the races by walking from either the POR or OKW. The little cop’s badge is the security check point for the race(s). A bib must be shown to pass the small bridge over the canal. You may want to go to the left and work around the back of the corrals … just not sure what the race day setup will look like since the start is a few yards further north than in the past. Finally, do not look at the canal on the left of the small bridge as that will become a last minute port john…

I remember this being debated earlier, but what are the approximate odds of getting caught and told to go back and get on the bus? I am at POR and really, really don't want to have to go all the way to the meeting area. It would be so nice to do a nice warmup and then head strait to the corrals.

50:50?
10:90?

Less than 10%. Since 99 I have only heard on one instance where folks were turned back. It was a forum post and never corroborated by anyone other than the poster.

My number is 6623 for the full. I had some leg issues not long ago so I am extremely undertrained but figure I will go anyway and just have fun this year.

I'm 29015 for the Goofy, but I think I may not make it. I canceled my reservation at POP because I didn't think I could make the trip. Today, I came up with brilliant ideas for affording it all, but there's no availability at any resort other than deluxe and ft. wilderness. :(
I'm holding out some hope, though...

Hi everyone,

We are not staying onsite this time (Sheraton Lake Buena Vista). What time would you recommend leaving the hotel to get to the half? Thanks!

Normal commute is about 20 minutes to Epcot. Plan on 35-40 minutes on race morning. You will want to be in the parking lot no later than 0400; earlier if you can to avoid traffic snafus. I would leave in the 0315 range to assure an 0400 stop in the lot.

Remember traffic patterns are goofed up. You will need to follow Buena Vista Dr (the road in front of DTD) past Epcot Dr, past Boardwalk and DHS and turn towards Magic Kingdom on World Dr. Once on World Dr, stay in the right lanes and then follow the signs to Epcot.

Hi neighbor! I'm up in Lewis Center. I do most of my long runs on the Olentangy trail. My 22 miler Friday was from Hills market (315-270 interchange) to the stadium and back. What pace are you shooting for? I just finished last year (my first) right at a 16 minute mile. This year I wanted to hit 12 min or better, but my last long run was right at 13:30 min/mile. I'll be happy if I shave an hour off last year. :-)
