Official WDW Marathon Weekend 2013 Thread-Part 2

Add me to the injury list I did my 10mile walk yesterday without an issue. Started my 24 mile run this morning and my left foot was bothering me. By mile 3 it was really hurting. I walked the rest of 10 miles before calling it quits (or before my DH convinced me to stop - I'm not very sensible).
The outside edge of my left foot hurts when I walk or run. I can stand on it without pain (I'm aware of it but it doesn't hurt). Standing on my toes causes pain. I'm icing and resting and feeling annoying.

uuuggghhhhh.

well, i have no idea what that means but i do know that you should REST! just don't do anything on that foot for as long as you can. hurting things means you should rest and ice. i know the annoyed feeling. i'm having it now as i ice my knees after a walk.

someone i always see on my training runs (he's a walker post-heart attack) stopped me while i was walking and was freaking out - WHY ARE YOU WALKING???? don't worry, i said, come hell or high water i will get that medal :)

Amanda Sorry about the foot. Hopefully, it is just muscle/tendon strain and resolves within a few days.

I did my longest run--and first double digit run--since mid-August this morning. 12 miles in balmy 50+ degree weather. Shorts and T-shirt in December, yeah! Working on not looking at my pace--but no matter what the logical brain says, the irrational runner wants to see smaller numbers!

On the plus side, taking Thanksgiving week off seems to have agreed with me, as a couple little nagging aches have disappeared, and my ribs are probably an 8.5-9 on a scale of 10 in the healing department.

Looking forward--cautiously, yet optimistically--to a December of stronger runs.

Maura

Pixie dust please.....

Not race related and really non-Disney related.

As many know, the company I work for has a division office in Maitland, Fl. Maitland is on the north side of Orlando. After we merged with the company that owned the Fl assets, my job duties took me to the MCO area at least monthly for a 3-4 year period (thus the knowledge base for all the run ideas and since my boss said stay anywhere as long as the hotel title did not have Disney in it - (I love the Marriott Village just across I4)). As a result of all my trips to MCO, I have run almost every path published by Disney and created several paths that Disney probably wishes I would not publish. I am also known well enough by the Boardwalk guard staff so that they allow me to park and run at the resort, even though they are not really allowing this to occur any longer before 6 AM.

Recently our company was acquired by another firm and I have been a lost ship in my new and very reduced responsibilities. It is to the point that I have been actively looking for better opportunities. A couple weeks ago a job was posted in our Maitland Office. It is a totally different path for me, but one that I was on 20 years ago.

I have an interview in the next couple weeks. Hopefully, without jinxing the path forward, the position reports to a person who I have a great working relationship with. We spoke today to firm up my desire to move forward in the interview process. I guess I am looking for a little pixie dust (and prayers) to help smooth out the process and for guidance on making what I think will be the the inevitable decision. I really must get past the thought of "wouldn't it be really neat to live 5 minutes from Disney."

Thanks for reading....

Pixie Dust and Good Luck!!! :flower3:

Need some advice from advice from seasoned marathoners –

Small background: I have completed 9 half marathons since I started to really get into running, 4 since September including the DL half. I am following the Galloway plan on Run Disney’s site for the Goofy training. This will be my first marathon and Goofy – not ideal I know.

I have been doing all of my training pretty faithfully. I have done all of my long runs as scheduled until 3 weeks ago when I was to do the 8/20 (8 Sat & 20 Sun). I did the 8 ok but used older shoes figuring they had life in them so I could use the good shoes for the 20. Well my feet hurt bad after the 8 so lesson learned. Went to do the 20 and I scrapped it at mile 15. I was in pain! My feet hurt and my left hip muscle hurt. I wanted to stop at 10 but went on to 15. Figured I would be ok.

Continued to follow the plan except last weekend I didn’t do the 7, I did a half on Thanksgiving instead. This week was to be 10/23 but I decided to do 10/20. Did the 10 yesterday fine. 20 today is not happening. I am sick. I have terrible chills, a horrible sore throat and my head feels funny. I know my body and I won’t be able to go out and do this.

Now I’m worried. The plan calls for 6 this next weekend, then 7 the following then the last big run of 12/26. Here is my plan. Instead of going down to 6 next weekend, try to do the 10/20 again, taper down to 7 the following then ramp it up and do 12/23 the weekend before Xmas and taper down for 2 weeks before marathon weekend. Will this work? I’m just nervous I won’t have sufficient training in and I don’t want to be swept. Sorry for the long post.

DS text me and said he did 16 miles yesterday...on a quarter mile track. :crazy2: That had to be horrible...I have yet to hear the details.

DH wanted me to do 13 on a local track yesterday and I said H-E-double hockey sticks NO!! That would drive me crazy! I'd rather run on a treadmill.

I thought that I hadn't received the Rundisney email either, but I found it in my spam folder. I signed up with the Disney Visa discount.

That is my same motivation....I will get that medal!

We had a kid free night last night and drank a few too many adult beverages, but still did 5 miles today (under massive protest by DH). I actually felt alot better than I should have, and my time was pretty good! Thinking maybe I should drink too much before every run. ;)

 Good job to him! I never would have survived. That is some determination right there.

Hope all turns out well with some rest.

It seems like a lot of injuries being reported here lately. My husband just had an MRI for a possible stress fracture.

I hope you're ok! I tripped and has similar pain a couple months ago. Podiatrist told me I had sprained a tendon that runs from the side of the foot and up into the leg. I hope that yours isn't anything too severe!

I am in the same boat. My 20 miler didn't happen yesterday. I stopped at about 14.5. Longest run was 17 two weeks ago. The 17 was fine. The 14.5 not so well and barely at pace. Not sure what was going on with me yesterday. Now my plan was to do 6 next weekend, then 7 the following weekend, then 20 as the last long run before taper. Should I just stick to the plan? Or try something like 18-7-20 then taper?

That was horrible! I was supposed to run 16 and only did 15. And I walked a lot of it. I was miserable. I don't understand how 15 this week could be so awful when last week's 14 felt so good. Maybe the heat? It was bright and sunny and 80 degrees in Tampa today. Ugh. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to do this.:confused3

Can someone please tell me how Disney announced the Marathon Dooney? I saw someone ordered it on facebook and I am wondering what else I have missed that was available for pre-order.
