Official Upgrade to SSR thread

I am going on 8/26 and got upgraded yesterday. They are probably going week by week during the free dining period so they don't get bombarded all at once. That could be a good thing for other folks since you will know that it might be coming. You can be on the lookout for the email and research the hotels.

Oh my, I need to get new t-shirt transfers I have them for a vacation we named POP or Bust since we were going to POP. Better get on this. I so love having more planning to do. I was running out of things to do for this vacation. Now I can get back at it.

I am also enjoying doing all the new research...sort of. It is distracting me from cleaning this house!

When I told my daughters we were upgraded to SSR, my older daughter said, "Oh Mom is there a window for you to put all the decorations you were going to use in the POP window?" I told her we wouldn't be using those, but that we'd definitely back at the POP next year, so they'll get used!

Matthews4Disney....I believe the upgrade is only being offered the week prior to Labor Day weekend. Starting on 8/26 (free dining). We're going 8/25 - 8/30. I got the upgrade (SSR - 1bdrm) for 8/26 - 8/30, but we're still staying at All Star Sports on 8/25.

Keep watching, maybe they'll open up additional dates!

I thought this was an interesting quote from the DVC board:

"DVD controls 4% of the dvc rooms to book out for cash," That means that CRO can rent out 4% of the rooms to non-DVC owners at a DVC resort. I looked in the Unoffical Guide book, and it says that SSR has 840 rooms.

That comes to approximately 40 rooms. I seems like so many more than that got the upgrade from the DIS boards, but I could just be imagining that.

If they're empty the DVC group may want to make a deal with Disney to fill additional rooms.....

Win-Win for both...Disney gets more family's on property (spending their hard earned cash) and DVC gets cash for the otherwise empty rooms.....

I mean this is a fantasy, I was so crazy about the free DDP this is throwing me over the edge!! I am in Cupmom and bell.of.the.ball grand gathering ... after a nighmare day of trying to fly home from San Francisco last night during the computer "thing" this was a very welcomed surprise!!

Can't wait to get there ... as it says on disney.com when I log in "Only 79 more days until my next Disney Vacation"

price difference: I don't know how others figured it, but I went back in using the free dining link and pretended to book the same trip at SSR. Difference between what we paid and what it'd cost at SSR is $1618 had we chose that to begin with, plus $2 we're getting refunded due to upgrading lol

things you're looking forward to at SSR: More room; privacy from kids at night; whirlpool tub; 2 TVs; a refrigerator with ice maker; coffee maker; WASHER/DRYER! so I don't have to bring a ton of clothes along; quieter; walking to DTD (it's a long bus ride from the All Stars); getting to ride on a boat; grocery store at resort; maybe bike rental; feeling like we're on a first class trip

things you're not looking forward to: Might miss the theming for the kids; might be a lot of walking to drink dispensers, buses; might want to spend a lot of time at the resort and then regret we didn't spend it at the parks

Congratulations to everyone else who got the upgrade. I have been on cloud nine since Thursday. It is like a dream or something. Free dining and this! BTW in case anyone is worried about free dining not showing online. I called this morning and the CM confirmed FD for me. She explained that anything free will not show on your online reservation.

I upgraded from a Pop standard to a 1 bedroom at SSR. But, now I have a dilema, my best friend decided to join us on the 30th, and wanted to do a grand gathering.

My question to you all is do you think that if we called together, could she be upgraded as well? That would be great and then we will not have to travel in order to be together.

1. If someone is arriving on 8/25 instead of 8/26, does your free dining start on 8/26 or does it start on the first day of your stay? I am thinking it starts 8/26 whether you are changing resorts or not.

2. Also, for those that got upgraded from Value to DVC resort, is one of the requirements of this upgrade that when you accept the DVC resort, you must pay your balance in full right away or are you able to wait until closer to your 45 day mark?

1 The free dining does not start until the 26th. You would actually need 2 reservation to get it. One for the 25th and a new one starting on the 26th

2. I did not have to make any additional payment. In fact I added a day to the begining of my trip. We will arrive on the 29th now. So the date that my finally payment is due was moved up a day but otherwise everything else is the same.

Yes, when I called and changed I had to pay off the balance of the trip. My dm came to the rescue and let me put it on her cc till I can pay her back in 2 weeks. I didn't want to wait and risk all the rooms being booked before then.



Also for those who got studio rooms. I was first give a studio and then called back the next morning and asked if any of the 1 bedrooms had opened up. I was told yes and upgraded to this at no extra charge.

The didn't make me pay off my trip (I would have) - she just said final payment was due July 12th.

We upgraded to SSR - 1 BDR villa from standard room at ASMo. I don't know the price difference offhand, but it is nice! 8/26 - 8/30.

We are looking forward to the washer/dryer (hoping to just take a carryon each) and walking to DTD! Plus the extra room will be nice, and the balcony. I feel very blessed. We just added another day (8/25) at movies - and changed our flights - so we come in late 8/25, will sleep and then move over to SSRbright and early 8/26 to enjoy the resort, relax, and go to DTD. It will be nice before our park days to just enjoy the ambiance. I booked a dinner at Captn Jacks for that day (which I like - I know others hate it). Can't wait!!!
