Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

Thank you all! I'm very excited about this trip, I've never really traveled alone and I'm looking forward to being to do exactly what I want, when I want! I'm staying at the Holiday Inn on Walnut. I'm anxious to see what Disneyland is like. I've been to Disneyworld several times, so it's nice to have a change!

Hope you enjoy Disneyland. Remember it is "the original" that Walt built and walked. There are so many hidden jems that the park has to offer.

WAIVERS ARE UP!!! :yay: I know we all got them already, but they're officially on the site now.

Just wondering how many of you ordered the one of these? I just pre-ordered mine (fingers crossed) that it will be sent to me with the right time after the race!:wizard:

I've never ordered one before, but I was thinking about it if they have a combo one for the DL 1/2 in Sept.

Hello All,
I will be making this trip alone and I'm kind of nervous about keeping up with the pace, my training has not been what it needed to be for the past month or so because of preparing for the deployment. Great advice here!

I'm going alone as well! You're going to have so much fun at the race and the parks. I think you should be fine w/ the race. You still have a couple of weeks to get some runs in and you'll go a little faster race day than on practice runs b/c of the adreneline.

I know some of our Tinker Bells were there so please share your race experience with us when you are ready. :cool2:

And if you have any tips for getting through this time as get closer to the race for those of us who are feeling a bit  please share! :flower3:

I 2nd the race updates!! I was watching fb all weekend trying to live vicariously through everybody. I'm really curious how the relay went. But I'll be there next year!!

As for pre-race advice... whatcha looking for? Off the top of my head, things that I can think of are try not to fit in too much training if your training hasn't been 100% and you're trying to fit it all in. If you go to the gym and do strength training, the last 2 weeks, go lighter~1 you don't want to get hurt on something stupid and 2, it takes 2 weeks to start seeing any effects so it's not worth it to start. If you're a visualizer, think of some scenarios where something bad might go wrong to imagine how you can fix it or avoid it so you'll be prepared race day. If it's your 1st race and you're traveling down to DL, make a list of everything you'll need for the race that way you make sure you have everything packed. And once you get to DL, just enjoy everything and take everything in!

Bib #10575 here. I don't know if that's good or bad -- all I know is I'm going to run, Run, RUN away from that Balloon Lady. hehehe

I'm so excited yet feel so under-prepared at the same time. I tore some cartilage in my knee back in November. I can run 5-6miles ok, but haven't really been able to try a higher mileage run yet. I'm afraid if I do a longer run, I might injure myself more and will be unable to complete the Tink.

Sorry about your knee! Hope it gets a little bit better for the race! I added your # to the bib # thread.

I just saw that they've finally posted the link to the waivers on the run's website...for anyone that hasn't gotten theirs from the link that was posted here last week.

IAt one time, I thought I was really going to try for a PR at this race, but it's just not gonna happen. Maybe I should bring a camera along with me this time and just take pics and have fun. I hate adding to my load though...I already feel like a pack mule sometimes with the water belt bottle on the back, gels in one pouch on one side and ipod in the other pouch on the other side.
This is EXACTLY how I am. My training was going GREAT until I tore cartilage in my knee. I haven't been the same since.

Since this is my first HM, I really wanted to knock it out of the park, but now, I've resigned myself to just finishing... it's a little disappointing, I know. BUT I've also resigned myself to fixing myself up AFTER this race, and kicking you-know-what on my next race :)

In terms of the camera, I usually have a two bottle Nathan belt. I'm thinking of only carrying one bottle, so my camera isn't too much more weight.

Do the bib #s MEAN anything...? I have the highest I have seen yet, 20486, but then I have never run anything more than a 5K and registered very late... will I not be allowed to start in the right time group? Do they separate us by # instead of where we think we will pace? (we aren't trying to stand at the front by any means, but we do anticipate a 2:30ish finish and would like to not start out right in front of the balloon ladies going a snails pace o_O:

My bib info does not show up. I can only guess it's because I registered with a group?

I'm starting to get a little nervous for this race now  I feel like my training has suffered this year, especially through the holidays (mostly derailed by sweets!!!) and my last 2 long runs have not been very good...at all! Then, unfortunately, my grandmother passed on friday so I'll be travelling and out of town for the next few days for her services. I think the hotel I'm at has a fitness center so I'm really hoping I can make it down to the treadmill and stay on schedule, but I'm also worried about the next few days of eating out for every meal. I like to really watch my eating once I get into tapering since I won't be working off as many calories and will be making a more conscious effort to rest and be off my feet. On top of all that, I've been battling a nagging back ache...I don't know if I pulled something or what, but it's really been giving me a hard time the last few days...and the 10 miles on saturday just made it worse. At one time, I thought I was really going to try for a PR at this race, but it's just not gonna happen. Maybe I should bring a camera along with me this time and just take pics and have fun. Sorry about your grandmother :(

If you can do 10, you can totally finish 13.1. I did Disneyland last year as a "fun" run, and had SO MUCH FUN. I stopped for any pictures I felt like, I enjoyed the other runners around me... it was a great experience. I'd rather do that any day, than feel miserable through a Disney race.

you might want to call...I wasn't found when waivers for the Princess went up last year and found out it was a simple mistake. I had evidently just typo'd my birthdate on registration day so they had the wrong info entered for me. It was a quick and easy fix over the phone. I've never registered to run with a group, so I'm not sure if that could be the problem with yours.

Great advice !!!! On my runs I have been visualizing every mile and where it is on the map. And just keep saying to myself one mile down____to go! Just one step at a time.

On a side note, this will be my first half. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I will be walking and running the entire time. I am still trying to figure out if I'll be in costume or not. I am also trying to see if I will use KT tape or a knee brace. I have a tilted patella. Lucky me.

The Official Race Program is also updated on the website under the event details page! It has the speaker schedule which was missing on the one they sent to us earlier.

Hello All,
I just found this board yesterday and I am so happy I did! A few things about me:
-I'm a mom of 4, husband just left on a 9 month deployment
-Running my first Disney race (Tinker Bell)
-This will be my first trip to Disney Land

I will be making this trip alone and I'm kind of nervous about keeping up with the pace, my training has not been what it needed to be for the past month or so because of preparing for the deployment. I've read through this thread and noticed that there was a facebook page- can someone send me the link for that? I would love to meet up with some people for this race! Great advice here!

Cara

Welcome Cara!! I am a mom to 4 too!!

I am sorry to hear about your grandma :(

I got seriously derailed with the holidays too. It started with my work schedule around Thanksgiving (Black Friday) and then I got sick and I still haven't gotten back to where I was. My long and slow runs have been much slower and I am getting disappointed, but I will finish and that is all that matters.

Do the bib #s MEAN anything...? Did you sign up as a team? I heard (I think on here) that team numbers are in the 20000.

But generally speaking yes, bib numbers are based on corrals and estimated finish times.

I finished my petti-skirt on Sat. I am pretty excited about it. I decided to change my shirt so I ordered a new rhinestone transfer I am just hoping I get it in plenty of time. The shop I ordered my first one from has closed down so I contacted someone else on Etsy and she told me she could do it and in time but I haven't heard back from her since and she hasn't set up the listing yet. :rolleyes1

I don't sweat it for a PR at a Disney race. It's too much fun to stop and take pictures with the characters. Enjoy the experience.
I run with a camera in my hand because there are so many opportunities to take pictures. And even though some of the running takes place on the streets with no characters, there are lots of groups cheering you on and lots of funny signs. I loved some of the signs so much, I stopped and took pictures with them. They make great memories.

HAVE FUN!

I'm definitely getting nervous but also excited! Watching some of the people running this past weekend at WDW was inspiring! My goal is have fun and finish!!

I am also registered with a group (AFSP) and I'm not in the system....with runDisney. I am in Active.com under the correct birthdate, etc. so I think it's a case of our charity registering late (12/29/11) and we are waiting for runDisney to send the information to the group, then the woman who is running the show will send us the link. I emailed her today and she told us not to worry; that it may be taking longer because we are the smallest group and probably at the bottom of the list, priority-wise ;) So I'm not going to sweat it since I was able to find my information over at Active.com, even though I don't have a bib # yet.

I am hpoing to get to where you are one day. So far I have/ am only doing Dinsey halfs. Last years Princess was my first race and even though I made it within my goal time I feel it will be pretty easy to PR at Tink. I am also doing the Princess again and may be looking to do more pics then, but I am not huge on Character pics so we will see. It might be hard for me to stop to take pics. Last year the only pic I did was the castel and it didn't turn out very well so I was kind of bummed I wasted the minute or so in line to get it.

This is how I feel too, and I also run with my camera in hand. It's so much easier than trying to keep taking it out and putting it back in a waist belt.

Part of the reason I stop for so many photos is because I'm hoping to get at least a couple good ones :). If you're not into character photos, I've also had good luck getting random cast members and spectators to take photos of me in front of attractions or other "scenic" places in the park. I still feel awkward asking, but everyone's really nice (even if they think I'm crazy) and I just have to remind myself that I'm never going to run into them again anyway.

The 20,000s are for the teams, so not sure of how those bib#'s match up w/ the others corralwise. If after you pick up your bibat the expo, check your corral. If you think it's too low, you can talk to runner info (in the same area as the bib pick-up) to see if they can move you up in the corrals.
