Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

I haven't gotten anything yet.

Edit:
Nevermind - I got my waiver from the link in this thread. :) #3549

LoL Good luck figuring it out and getting it in! I have my running days pretty much set; I run with my sister and we have 6 kids between us so it takes a bit of planning to make it happen. We run Tues, Thur, and Sat, with Sat being the long runs. BIL is off Thur and Sat and we just go after he gets home on Tues.

I hear ya! I have six children all with super busy lives. It's a constant schedule change around here! Luckily I have been getting all my workouts this week in. Long run, here I come!! Good luck on your last couple of weeks of training runs, everyone!

Wow! Good for you for making yourself a priority in the chaos! :worship:

I'm doing my long run tomorrow morning -- 15 miles on the indoor track. I will be hap, hap, happy when it is behind me. :tinker:

Kim, thanks for doing the bib list for us! :flower3:

Lisa:

Will you have any sanity left after 15 miles on an indoor track?? My longest on an indoor track is 9 miles. That was plenty long!! thanks for the advice about getting compression sleeves to help my shin splints. They feel pretty good right now, but I am doing 11 miles tomorrow. I started thinking about the fact that I am doing the Princess about 3 weeks after the Tinker Bell and began to worry about really bad shin splints and the recovery time. So, I ordered a pair today. You know how it is...now that I ordered them, my shins will stop hurting!

I have my ticket to "Tapersville" booked...I leave this weekend after my 10 miler on saturday. :cool1: (sometimes I push this last long run to 11 if I'm feeling it...we'll see!)

I got my silver Team Sparkle skirt in the mail yesterday...woot woot! (Yes, I immediately put it on and wore it (ok, twirled!) around the house for awhile...they are SO fun!) And I also finlaized my Tinkerbell-themed iron-on design for my shirt just a few minutes ago, so hopefully I'll have that in a week or so. The next few weeks should fly by...lots planned, including the BF's 2nd full marathon next weekend...I'm so excited for him! The icing on the excited-cake would be a link to those waivers! :yay:

Awesome! So glad you got your skirt and love it! Good luck on that run and taper!

LoL I have some close friends who bike, it is very popular here. Whenever my sister and I are running we call the bikers who go by cheaters; I mean after all they get to sit down the whole time, and they can coast. There is no coasting .

Lol. Cheaters- exactly!!

Your expert advice is needed:

4 people (2 teams) in our group got numbers 20500ish. (I was quite suprised because no one one the boards in posting a number over 10,000.)
They are walkers and at around a 14 3/4 minute pace.
Will they be in the last group?
What corral - E?

If one person on the team does a 10K in the next couple of weeks and the pace is around 14, will that move both of them up into a higher corral?
Or is there a time that they need to aim for to move up?

What do you need to bring to show proof of time? A print out from the race results?

Is this worth stressing about?
They are very worried about the balloon lady and not getting a medal.

Advice please.

Another question:
I will probably get done before the rest of my group, so I'm thinking of going back out on the course to cheer them on at various places (after I'm done getting my medal and snacking).
Will it be easy to make my way out and find some spots on the course to see them?
Has anyone ever done this at the Disneyland 1/2?

I most of my running clothes are Champion from Target!! Now I just need to convience myself that they make me go faster ;)

Oh yeah, new clothes make you run faster for sure! :thumbsup2

Summer, can't wait to see your sparkly silver skirt! :tinker: And I'm totally on my way to taper town with you! ::yes::

:lmao: It's a small price to pay!

:rotfl2: I think it will be okay since I did 14 a couple of weeks ago. One more mile than that I can do. ::yes:: I've had a crazy, busy week so I'm looking forward to zoning out for a few hours.

Thank you Lisa! Good luck on your long run! Let us know how it goes!

Thanks, Melinda! :flower3: I'll start at 5 am so should be done fairly early.

Are they part of a charity group? Maybe they get different numbers? Things may change until Disney officially releases the bib numbers anyway -- which won't be until after this week-end no doubt.

I did get a medal when I was swept after mile 8 at the Princess. I never wore it, or had a picture taken with it on, but I still cherish it nonetheless.

I would think your best bet of catching them later on the course will be in DCA from looking at the map.

Have a great day all! :tink:

hmmmm, I know I don't have definite answers, but I can offer what I think at least. I know on the run's website, there is a paragraph about what you need to have to show proof of time at the Expo...I believe it's just a print out that includes your name, the name and date of the race and your time. I know when you register initially, you only have to provide proof if you think you will finish in 2:45 or less...so I would think that might still hold true at the expo...unless their 10k time gives an estimated finish of 2:45 or less, it may not help to move them up. I can't speak from experience on that one though...hopefully someone else here can! You can do a google search for race time predictors online to kind of figure out where you would need to finish a 10k to get a 2:45 half prediction...and I've found that whatever claculator Disney uses is pretty generous, so there could be a little wiggle room in there!

I hope some of this helps and you get some answers! Tell your friends that if they are under a 15 now they should be fine though and not to stress if they can't get moved up. The excitement and adrenaline will probably get them going a little faster anyway...maybe suggest to them getting to the corral as early as possible to get closer to the front of the corral for a little more time padding.

Not sure about which corral they'll be in. My guess is that b/c you said they're in 2 teams, the teams have different bib #'s than the 1/2 runners. Kinda of like w/ RnR races where you have a 1/2 and a full~ they start the #'s in different sections.

Has anyone ever done this at the Disneyland 1/2?

2 ideas of where to cheer them on are: in the last mile~ it's in the parking lot behind DCA and it should be easy to get back there and quickly/not to far from the finish area. Another idea is right at Mile 11. It's right before we go back into DCA and on the street. You can walk down Katella to Harbor and then down Harbor to the intersection; you can walk down to and through DTD and then back up Harbor to the crosswalk. The 1st way I think is a little shorter and easier. I don't know if you can go into DCA to cheer people on though. Hope that helps!

In 3 weeks from today it will be the start of the Expo !:cool1: Can't wait to go and get my goody bag. My expectations are on the high side since this is a inaugural race. I hope the merchandise selection is huge with lots of cute things to choose from.

Anyone else pre-purchased the "commemorative pin and necklace"? Marketing so works on me:hyper:

Unless something has change recently, you can still get into the race if you book a hotel through the travel company associated with the race. They have decent prices on good neighbor hotels, if you still wanted to try and get in!

I checked this out and it looks like they are booked as well as the options of running for a charity. I would have to book a flight sometime soon if I go. I'll look a bit longer but alas, it may be next year if I'm not lucky, and at least I have the Princess to keep going for :)

Thanks for the well-wishes!

And if the run is still logistically doable for you, don't give up searching for a bib! A couple of years ago, when I first started running, I decided I would try to do the 5k the day before my BF ran the DL half, but it was sold out. I searched and contacted people...and found an available bib the day before the race just a few hours before I left for the airport! (Thank goodness I had packed some running clothes anyway :)) I ran as "Jake" for my very first Disney run! It could still happen! :flower3:

Thanks for the advice. I'll look a bit more but I can't afford to book the flight without a bib. I would be going it alone anyways and it would be a big risk and kinda sad to get across the country and then not be able to do the race. I suppose I would be willing to risk it if it was for a BF or DH or something but not on my own.

Good luck on your race! :goodvibes

A friend of mine was able to score two bibs the weekend of Disneyland last year; I'm sure some will be available... checked Craigslist?

Balloon lady? I'm picturing scenes from the movie 'It', and have added some material to my pre-race nightmares I'm sure. lololol :rotfl2: I don't want to see any balloon lady, if that has anything to do with getting swept!

3 weeks! YAY! So excited! I don't recall if I bought the commemorative pin and necklace, but I bet I did. I can't wait to get my goodie bag, too. Hopefully the inaugural race will make it extra special.

Yes, definitely check Craigslist. I didn't register for Tink until we were back from the DL half, and they were already sold out. I got one from GET Travel right away. I would check Craigslist around Anaheim, and even post a 'WANTED' ad on Craigslist. I hope you can make it!

Melinda :) :cool1:

I think there are actually 3 teams walking with us. Two of them have numbers with 20000. The other one has 8000 numbers. So I'm not sure what's going on. None of them are charity walkers.

And here's my balloon lady story:
My first Disney 1/2 marathon was the Princess last Feb. I wasn't in the know about the balloon lady.
When I was around mile 9, I saw a lady walking with the vans right after her. I felt bad for her that she was the last one. I stopped to take a picture. Later, when I was on the bus, I zoomed in on the picture and saw 2 huge balloons tied around her waist. Just then I figured it out! Plus the next day I read someones' blog and she had pictures posted. She had one of herself with some characters and her face was so funny because she had just seen the balloon lady. I loved her blog, it was great!

Here's hoping we all beat the balloon lady (although I'm sure she's a quite nice person)! :yay:

Me too. I just can't wait to shop and really hope the merch selection is good. I thought this past year at DL 1/2 the merchandise was better than the prior years.

Did my 11 miles today.. Absolutely had to, 60 degrees in Ohio in January?? I saw a bright yellow dandelion and an orange butterfly right next to the pond with a thin covering of ice! But I will take 60 degrees whenever I can get it in January.
