Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

Want to book my hotel tonight and was wondering if anyone is familiar with Best Western Plus Stovall's Inn??

Yep, it's where I'm staying too. :) It looks like it will be really close to the start and finish line.

I remember staying there a few years ago and I don't remember it being bad. In general I tend to stay at BW's when I travel.

I've been using Google maps to confirm locations and that hotel is SUPER close to the finish line. Only thing closer is the Paradise Pier. But BW is actually half the price of Paradise Pier so...looks like BW is winning. Just don't want to stay somewhere gross.

I've done 1 full marathon (Honolulu)

Ooohhh Honolulu! Any tips on that one? I'm doing that one this year. Kinda worried about the whole humidity thing.

I'm like Sarah~ stayed there a few years ago and didn't have any problems. It was nice and quiet as well. For me, the only down side was the walk into the parks was a little bit longer, b/c you either have to go all the way around to Harbor or walk down to and through DTD to either the entrance or the monorail.

I have been looking at Google maps too! :rotfl2: I think we'll stay at the BW on Friday night and then move over to PP for Saturday and Sunday nights to cut some costs. I'm still hoping that they'll lower the cost for PP in January.

Yes, the humidity is a thing :) Especially coming from training in N. Cali during the fall. Just take note of it - you will probably feel it a bit more. I would say not to go for any time records with that one, just take it easy. Also - although the race course is fairly crowded throughout, there is the one section that runs through what I'd call "suburban Honolulu" and it can be boring for some, bring an ipod if you think that will get you (the lack of gorgeous scenery) :) . Also, I did some minor hill training in the bay area and I thought Diamond Head (the only really hilly part) wasn't bad at all. Good luck and aloha! :wizard:

My main objective is staying as close to the finish line as we can. Tink will be my friends first half marathon. I worry that if she is injured or is having a hard time walking after the race, staying far from the finish could be troublesome. I know after the Disneyland 1/2, I needed a bit of help walking back to the hotel room.

I love Google maps. Was even showing my friend what's within walking distance of the hotel for food.

After completing the Disneyland Half, I am seriously kicking myself in the behind for dismissing this race so easily. It was a blast, and I would love to go back in a few months!

Maybe there are still some spots left on one of the charity teams? I don't think the 5k has sold out yet...I believe it's being held that Friday night.

Literally SECONDS after reading your post I received an email from GET Travel urging me to book a room with them for the Tinkerbell weekend...I think it's a sign...

Running some preliminary numbers....even on the cheapskate side....it would be a $900-1100 weekend, without factoring in food. Going to have to strongly thing about it.

In doing my own research and price comparisons, I was able to get a cheaper room rate than Get Travel was quoting me. Just wanted to share with everyone.

Yesterday I booked our flights and today I booked our hotel for the Tink weekend. Super excited. My friend will be running her first half and we're doing the race together. :cutie:

We just make our flight & hotel reservations.
We are staying at the Howard Johnson's (where we stayed for the Disneyland 1/2).
They had shuttles running all day long for the Expo and the race itself (in the early AM).
It's not too bad of a walk from the main entrances to Disneyland and CA Adventure.
It's close to MiMi's (which we had a great dinner after the race) and McDonalds.
Reasonable rates.
Staying there from 1/27 - 30.
Can't wait!

I booked directly through Best Western and it was cheaper than GetTravel's rates.

Has anyone stayed at the Red Lion before in Anaheim? We wanted to book the Hilton again...have booked it for the last 2 years at $89/night for the DL half weekend but they are now showing well over $200/night for Tinkerbell weekend...no thanks!!! We passed by the Red Lion several times while we were there during race weekend this year and put it on the list of possibilities to check into for January.

WISH'ing that you had ordered one of those snazzy, lime green WISH shirts?

Sorry got the quote from the other thread thing but lost the link the first try. ;)

OK, for serious now:

I can get either Fairfield Inn & Suites OR Sheraton Park Hotel, each with 2 Queen Beds, for $148 per night (check in Fri, check out Mon) that I am willing to go half with someone on. That's $74 per night!!!

Anyone interested at all? Anyone?? :)

I'm going to book one of these anyway, regardless. It's just a matter of room type and whether anyone has an opinion of one over the other. Again, anyone? ;)

Have been cross training since the Disneyland half marathon. I follow the rule/suggestion/tip of taking 13 days off from running after a half marathon. I've enjoyed the strength and flexibility training I've been doing.

But I haven't exactly taken a break from running. I signed myself and my kids up to run a 5k October 8th. So this week I purchased running shoes for my daughter (my son already has them) and we started the Couch to 5k program. I don't consider the first week of C25K "running" since it's more "walking"! But the weather has cooled off in Phoenix and these late afternoon walk/runs with my daughter have me super excited to return to my own training.

I have 2 half marathons scheduled before Tink. I'm doing the RnR Vegas and RnR Arizona. In total, I will do 3 1/2 marathons within an 8 week time frame.

I'm so totally excited for Tink now that my flight and hotel are booked!!!

It's so exciting to hear everyone's travel plans! :tink:

It seems like a long time before our race but it will be here before we know it. Especially considering we have the busy, busy holiday season just around the corner. :santa:

Everyone picked out their training plans and started or starting soon? :goodvibes

Wow! That is a lot of races! Are you are Half Fanatic? :goodvibes If not sounds like you will be when you are done with the Tink! :yay:

I'm sure that it has been hard to train in Phoenix with the heat this summer -- my Mom lives in Mesa so I hear all about it. :sunny:

I have a half tomorrow and a 10K on 10/9. Tomorrow is all about finishing in under 4 hours. I'm hoping the 10K time will be good enough to move me up a corral or two for Tink. I know I can do the distance, it's the time that is my big concern now. I survived being swept at the Princess and have gone on to do things that I never thought I could do. I have confidence I will do just fine at the Tink. :tink:
