Official Tinker Bell Half Marathon 2012 thread

Saturday is my 10k. I planned on using it for corral placement, but since it is going to be crazy hot (high of 104 that day) I am mainly hoping to not die. :scared1: I am looking forward to getting it over with and taking it easy, running wise, until I start Tink training in Oct.

What part of Texas are you in? I have been having to run on a treadmill because I can't breathe at all when I run outside! The temperatures finally broke on Monday to a reasonable 89 degrees - who knew that would be considered a cold spell!

Hi Ladies
Just back from the DL 1/2. The entire race seemed quieter and calmer than prior years. Thankfully, I finished in spite of my sciatic back problems acting up.

We were at the expo right when it opened. We had a much better chance of merchandise choices and sizes. (Shoppers remember that for our expo) Definitely will do that again for our expo coming up. Run Disney had the Tink 1/2 finishers medal there and it is BEAUTIFUL!!! They were also handing out light weight Tink wands, perfect to run with. Hope they have more of those at our expo.

For those who are looking for a hotel..... For the DL 1/2, we always stay at the Best Western Stovalls Inn on Katella. Nothing fancy at all, but it is right across from the finish line and a easy walk to the start of the race. This year the hotel was kind enough to open their "breakfast room" at 4:00 a.m. for the runners. I'm hoping they will do this again for the Tink.

I'm really motiviated to keep working out and get ready for the Tinker Bell 1/2.

Does anyone know if the Pace Team from Cliff Bar will be there ???

What about the Cheer Squad? DH and our little mouseketer was wondering about that.

Congrats on the DL race...this was my first year doing that one and I made that same comment to my BF afterwards...that it seemed very quiet in alot of places along the course...and not just because there weren't cheering sections, it was even with the runners. Made for a long race :) At one point I stopped and cranked the volume on my ipod just for some background noise.

I guess no one can say for sure about the Cliff pace teams and Cheer Squad since this is an inaugural race, but I've been out to the DL half for the last 3 years with my BF and both have been there so I think you could reasonably assume that would stay the same for the Tink. But who knows, right?

Speaking of pace teams...anyone ever run with one during a race? Are most of them strictly non-stop runners or are there ever any that do intervals? I stayed around a 2:30 pacer for a good amount of time last weekend and wondered how that worked...is it something you have to sign up for before hand...or do you just find them on race day and go?

Does anyone happen to know where we can buy "training for tink" shirts, or something to that effect? My friend saw someone wearing one at DL last weekend. Maybe they were at the expo? I would like to have something now, rather than wait for our expo! :)

Every Disney race I have been to has had someone from the Pace Team. Since they are an official sponsor I guess they want people to be involved. Cheer Squad is also at every race I have been to. The pace people do seem to run the entire race. I was with one nearly the entire DL half last year. But, only saw them this year in the corrals. You sign up for it on the Clif website - you answer a lot of questions, how many races you have been in, what your verified times have been, etc. and they pick people based on that.

Congrats to our DL Half runners! :yay: And thank you for posting the pictures of the Tinker Bell medal. :thumbsup2

As we get ready to start training for our race I thought I would share this article from active.com written by Coach Jenny Hadfield -- the Marathon for Mortals author titled "7 Mistakes to Avoid on Your Long Runs." http://www.active.com/running/Artic...m?cmp=282&memberid=123646472&lyrisid=23037108

If someone does find one of the Tink in Training shirts please let us know! :goodvibes

Yes, congrats to all the DL 1/2 peeps in here :wizard:

Nice article, Lisah0711, thanks for sharing.

That's a really great article. Thank you for sharing it.

I ran the DL 1/2 and it was my first time. I was a bit bored between miles 4-10. It was really quiet. I had made the decision not to run with my headphones and it was around mile 5 that I was regretting that. I'm glad things picked up as we got in to the stadium.

I'm excited to do Tink! I'm doing it with a friend.

Cripey,
How did you get your picture with your Coast to Coast medals?
I don't see the Disneyland 1/2 pictures posted yet (or I can't find them).
I'd love to see mine.
Also, sorry I missed the meet up on Saturday. And I wish I would have seen your costume in person on race day. I was in the pink tutu and running skirt with pink/crown ears. I'm sure you saw me. Ha! :rotfl:

And ladies, I'm looking forward to running the Tinkerbell with you all.
The Disneyland 1/2 was a lot of fun last week.
It's really run to dress up as well.
I'm working on costumes for my sisters/nieces and I for this race.
Any suggestions???:cool1:

Never mind. I found it on the Disneyland 1/2 pictures thread.
Yah!:yay:

Glad you found the pics online...I was excited to see them up so fast!

I missed the meet up saturday too...we had an early dinner reservation right around the same time so couldn't make it.

The sparkle skirt was great to run in again...I think I might order their light green color to use to put my outfit together for the Tinkerbell too...although I just really really want to wear a tutu just once for a race :) I am hopefully getting the last piece to my Wine & Dine outfit this weekend and once that's out of the way I'll focus on the Tinkerbell outfit ideas...although I did pick up a pair of Tink stud earrings at DL last weekend to save for the race. :thumbsup2 Sometimes I think I put just as much effort into the outfit planning as I do the race training!

That's crazy! I wouldn't have expected that with a Disney race. I've done 1 full marathon (Honolulu) and 2 1/2 marathons (Nike womens San Francisco and Napa-Sonoma wine country) and none of them were "quiet" at any time during the race :confused3 Hummm, I might have to bring my iPod to Tink :thumbsup2 I'm going with friends but we have very different paces.

There was quite a bit of entertainment but yes, there are a few lulls because this race hardly runs on Disney property. I still love it though because it is different...but this year warmed up really quickly which didn't help the attention span at all. Last year was nice weather wise. But, it is definitely one that is nice to run with the iPod. My music stopped playing at Mile 5, so I did have to push myself a bit more...the one thing that is really cool is running through Angel Stadium. That is my favorite part.

I bet that the Tinkerbell will be great still...and that the 2012 DL Half will be pretty great!

This will be the first race for DD and I at Disneyland. Can't wait. Just finished a 5K and won my age division (old lady) with a PR pace of 14:11. Now if I could only keep that pace for an entire half marathon:rotfl: Not gonna happen...

Where did you get your sparkle skirt? I love running in my running skirts and are always looking for more. Not sure if I'll wear one for Tink, depends on the weather. My dear husband bought me light up Tinker Bell wings for me to wear for the race. Not sure if I'll be training in the neighborhood wearing those wings :rotfl:

I was really surprised how quiet it was, as well. I've run the Rock 'n' Roll Phoenix and Rock 'n' Roll San Diego and nearly every mile was lined with people. This race, not so much. But that's okay because it was still fun.

I ordered it online from Team Sparkle's website. I think they are great...fun and you don't even notice you are wearing it.

I second this - I have a pink Team sparkle skirt that I wore this summer for The Great Urban Race (kind of like The Amazing Race/scavenger hunt) in san Francisco this summer and it was super comfy. Wore it for 5+hours and didnt notice it once :thumbsup2

Want to book my hotel tonight and was wondering if anyone is familiar with Best Western Plus Stovall's Inn??

Sorry I thought I answered this before, but I guess it didn't post. I'm in Houston.

I usually don't run with an iPod but I brought mine with me for the Princess and I ended up turning it on somewhere between mile 9 and 10. I was glad I had it so I am going to make sure I always bring it with me, even if I don't plan on using it.

I am the same way!! I already have my Tink outfit picked out and soon I am going to get started on it and now that I decided for sure to do the Princess I am back to planning that outfit too. ;)
