Official thread of the Olympics!

I'm so jealous of those of you who are already watching! It's only 3:20 here in CA and we have to wait until 8 to watch the opening ceremonies. This stinks!

I will let the kids 5/5 stay up past their bedtimes to tonight to watch the opening ceremonies so that we not only cheer on the US athletes, but also those from their birth country of Kazakhstan.

Almaty, Kazakhstan is one of the 7 locations in the running for the 2014 games. It is the birth city of my children.

I've always been a big olympic fan and will be watching all sports. I have a background in roller figure skating and have crossed paths with some of the inline crossover skaters that have become speed skaters. Husband is a retired roller speed skater that crossed over to adult roller figure skating. He probably won't watch any of the events, but I sure will.

I love the Olympics! I am sooo excited!! :jumping1:
I love it all, but my faves are figure skating, speed skating, and bobsledding! :)

Ditto!!! :teeth:
I have always been obsessed with the Olympics, summer and winter!! When I was in Switzerland, I was sooo excited to go to Lausanne where the International Olympics Committe and Museum was. The Olympic Museum was one of my highlights for sure!! Awesome! I can spend hours in there.... :goodvibes

GO MICHELLE!! :wizard: :yay:  :cool1:

wow intersting dresses those women are waering that carry the countries name looks like a mountain only at the olympics

Anyone got a good link with air times of events.? Not the Olympic schedule...but the "Speed Skating will be on NBC on this day at 2pm (for example)" schedule.

I caught part of the opening ceremonies when I got home from work tonight. Anytime the Olympics are on I always tune in unless there is something else on I REALLY wanna watch and I always find myself engrossed with all the athletes' stories and the tight medal races that happen during the games. It never stops amazing me how much the Olympics affect me when they are happening, I can't help but get choked up seeing someone breakdown on the medal stand when they win a medal for their country and when I occasionally burst out cheering for the USA when they win the gold (or just put every effort into their performance or game).

I got chills watching the US walk into the stadium tonight during the parade of nations and I'm very excited about watching the games! I also loved the fact that the St. Louisan Bob Costas was a huge part of the broadcast team, hehe!

I hate watching the NHL, but I love Olympic hockey, why is that, lol! I'm excited that all of the US hockey games will be broadcast live so I'll be able to catch some live Olympic action. Anyway, viva la Olympics!!!

The opening ceremonies were really good! I loved the torch lighting!!!

I'm jazzed. I have 3 countries to root for so this is especially fun for me. :)

Okay you ravenous Olympic fans! I know I'll be glued to the television for the next 16 days...will you? Starting tonight, I'll be a big soggy weepy mess as we kick off weith what I am sure will be an emotional opening ceremony (if not a bit artsy).
Artsy? I think the Italians dropped the ball on this one. The whole 80's music thing, as the teams marched into the stadium, was slightly odd. In my opinion some music native to each team's home nation would have been more appropriate. Not necessarily the Villiage People! :confused3

Interesting opinion, very different from my own ... Tiziminchac, have you spent significant time in Europe? I spent a month of 2004 in France for work, and listened to cheesy 1980s hits for one complete month - France loves American disco and classic rock. Spent a couple of weeks in Croatia last year - same. The American disco, as cheesy and overplayed as it seems to us, gets the Europeans dancing in their seats. :)

I thought Opening Ceremonies were STUNNING. I'm saving my pennies for Beijing 2008 currently.

They only did this during the team marching and I imagine that they had their reasons. The rest of the music and dance and so on was lovely and yes, "artsy" IMO.

I Loved it! Awesome, can't wait for the next 2 weeks. I always get so sad when it is the closing ceremony though....
