Official Thread For Upcoming Eastern Canadian Cruises

I'd love a Canadianized magnet graphic! Something with "The Campbell Family" would be great. Whatever is easiest is fine by me!

I've looked at some shore excursions offered by other cruise lines for our ports and several look fun.

I agree there are a lot of fun things to do! I am sure that Disney Cruises will be offering some of the same excursions, but I am waiting for those exclusive ones with baited breath.

Also give me your cruise dates and I will whip you something up!

I'd love a Canada magnet too! We are the Colbert Family and our trip is the June 10th date. If possible I'd love 2 different ones...
Thanks!

This is our first Disney cruise and everyone on these boards is getting me so excited! Also, the trip is a complete surprise to our two daughter---I cannot wait!

We are The Campbell Family, going on the July 8th cruise.

Thanks!

On shore excursions, what I found with Alaska was that DCL did basically the same excursions as other cruise lines, but would sometimes offer uniquely Disney experiences, like characters or the kids' club CMs showing up for some activity. That was really nice. I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with for these ports. There appears to be a more limited number of options than some of the other ports DCL has visited, so I'm hoping that gives DCL an opportunity to really throw some neat stuff in there. We have the better part of a day in each port (Halifax, 8:30-4:30 and St. John, 9:30-5:30), so that's good!

Anyone know if cruise ships usually dock on port or starboard side in Halifax and Saint Johns?

I don't know if folks associate their city with a particular lighthouse, but there are some unique ones to choose from:

Back to pondering lighthouses thanks to kiddisney's response on the NYC thread ...
Do you know if we are likely to see any of the above picturesque lighthouses near Halifax or Saint John? Maybe someone who has cruised to these ports before would know?
THANKS FOLKS!!

Off the top of my head I think Saint John will dock on the starboard side, can't speak for halifax though. As for Lighthouses, I would imagine Disney will have a port adventure to Peggy's Cove, with it's light house.

There is a lighthouse in St John, they moved from Digby Nova Scotia. Other lighhouses in the area you may see depending on the port adventures.

I'm not sure if it is possible but if I could get one of the magnets with the August 5-10, 2012 date I would be so appreciative. If it is too much trouble, please don't worry about it.

Thanks...Lynda

so a new bit of info my daughter & i found - 2012 is the bicentennial of the war of 1812 - and there will be a tall ships race that will end in halifax around mid-july - there will also be a good amount of historic events scheduled - will try to update when they come on-line - it would be so cool to see a tall ship alongside the magic!

An interpretive plaque in the park contains the following anonymous poem:

Go view the graves which prisoners fill

Go count them on the rising hill

No monumental marble shows

Whose silent dust does there repose.

There is a book on this - John Boileau. 2005. Half-hearted Enemies: Nova Scotia: New England and the War of 1812. Formac Press. As the title suggests, for our part of Canada, it was like fighting your brother ...

I guess we will have to wait till June before we will see what route the Magic will be taking on the Eastern Canadian cruise. I was hoping to see where the other ships might be going so I would have an idea of how far out she would be, in order to guess which lighthouses we might see.

I was hoping that we might bear close to the Isle of Shoals, the only chance we might have to see a lighthouse of my home state. Doesn't look likely, though.

Here are my guesses of what we might see.

Most probably will see:
Lightship Frying Pan, Pier 66, NYC http://www.fryingpan.com/
Lightship Winter Quarter, Liberty Landing Marina, http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=658
Lightship St. Johns, Yonkers, NY, http://www.uscg.mil/history/weblightships/LV84.asp
Robbins Reef, near Staten Island, http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=582
Fort Wadsworth, Staten Island, http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/showallphotos.aspx?mmsi=1000018438
West Bank, near Staten Island, http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=757
Romer Shoal, off Staten Island, http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=655
Coney Island, http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=394
Partridge Island, Saint John, NB, http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=1377
Courtenay Bay Breakwater, Saint John, NB http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=1378
Digby Pier, Saint John, NB, http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=1128
Chebucto Head, Halifax, NS, http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=1030
Devil's Island, Halifax, NS, http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=1422

I was goofing around and came up with this.

For those of you that were asking for magnets, if you have any idea of what you may want, send me a message or post here. Please note that we will only be doing Canada themes here, for other type of magnets, check out the cruise magnet threads.

Great List! Wonder what we'll "really" see?!!:cheer2:
When the ship sails out of NYC, we should also be able to see some of the lighthouses on the NJ side, such as:
Twin Lights at Navesink: http://www.twin-lights.org/
Sandy Hook: http://www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=378
Robbins Reef is officially in NJ, too, off Bayonne.
So much history to see, from start to finish:woohoo:!

Haven't posted much on this site- have been on the August 5 site- those of you going then check that site. Someone is trying to start a Fish extender gift exchange. It is a fun activity for adults and kids. We will be doing a BTB with the Nassau one before this one. Figured we don't know if Disney will come back to NY and it saves us airfare.
