Official Thread For Upcoming Eastern Canadian Cruises

Hello all,

I'm not cruising in Canada ( going to the Bahamas in March), but I live in Halifax, so just checking out this thread. Let me know if I can answer any questions.

What grocery store/supermarket is close to the Port? What about shopping for women, over 40? TIA

The Atlantic Superstore on Barrington Street is very close to the harbour. Also, depending on what day of the week it is, the Seaport Market, which is excellent, may be open. What kind of shopping were you thinking of? Spring Garden Road is probably your best bet.

Here's my stupid question of the day...instead of packing my alcohol in my suitcase and worrying about it making a mess of mine or other passenger's luggage on the flight to NY...Could I buy some in Canada? Would there be any special process when I get back on board, etc?

We got two pairs of these padded wine envelopes. I've used them for both wine and whisky bottles when traveling. We've placed them in our checked luggage when flying, and then I put them in my carry-on for boarding the ship.

They double seal to prevent possible leaks and are well padded so it would take a serious impact on your bag to do any damage, though I still place them in the center of my soft-sided suitcase so they have a little extra cushioning.

Thanks for the info. We're looking to buy crafts and woollen sweaters.

Then Jennifer's on Spring Garden Road, or the Historic Properties, at the Harbour. And again, if open (Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday), the Waterfront Market has a lot of nice crafty things.

Sounds like we'll have a lot of great shopping opportunities!

There is also the micmac mall although that will require a taxi or bus trip, and the Power Center where the I-max is.

As for alcohol, yes I doubt you would have any problem, our bags were never checked through customs until we departed the boat for going home, and there are plenty of places to by beer, wine and other liquors. I think we might have some of that American Water you call beer too. :rotfl2::rotfl2: Just joking.

Thank you so much for this wonderful, informative thread. :thumbsup2
My DH and I are on the August 5th cruise. Only 201 days to go!:cool1:

Hi,

We have cruised out of NYC several times on other cruise lines. We have always flown into JFK and used a private town car service and stayed at hotels in Times square. This time we are looking into the possibility of using Disney Transportation if it is available. I have looked at the web site and searched here but have found no real definitive information.

We are looking to arrive the day before the 6/17 cruise. Does anyone have any information about transportation/hotel packages being offered by Disney?

Thank you.

Disney hasn't released much related to the Eastern Canadian cruises. AFAIK, right now there are only three add-on tours on the return day that include drop-off at one of the NYC airports. No before-we-leave add-ons or excursions in Canada yet.

I'm not sure if this will help but we booked our trip through Dreams Unlimited. We are flying into LGA and staying at The Westin Times Square, which is one of 3 hotels Disney is using. We have booked transfers with Disney from the hotel to the port and then from the port to the airport.

You can contact your TA or DCL to see what hotels are being offered and the rate. I've read several posts that say that DCL is offering transportation from the hotels in the Times Square area to the port, but it would be much cheaper to take a taxi to the port, it should be in the range of $12-$15.

We are flying into EWR and staying at a Hampton Inn Newark - Airport. They will pick us up from Airport and take us back for free the next morning and we'll probably do Disney transfers from airport. If I remember correctly, it includes breakfast and wifi as well....

We booked the Marriott Marquis for two nights prior to the cruise with transfers from LGA to the hotel, the hotel to the port, and then the port back to LGA. The rate at the Marriott was not a particularly great one but I like having all of my plans in one package with the cruise. We are going to plan our own "excursions" in NYC before cruising! The Times Square Disney Store and seeing "Wicked" are two of them! :cool1::woohoo::banana:

Sounds like a great plan. We are doing our NYC sightseeing when we get back from our cruise. We have 3 days set aside...I know we'll also do the Disney Store, and plan to see Mary Poppins, and I have tickets to 9/11 memorial, and I've requested tickets to Live with Kelly! I'm sure we'll go see the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, etc....

I have just read through the 15 pages of info, comments, and graphics on this thread. NOW I am really excited to be going on the 1st Canadian cruise. Something about making magnets excites me for traveling. Thank you, thank you, thank you all!!!!!
