Official Thread For Upcoming Eastern Canadian Cruises

I am so glad that there will be a stop in my fair city.

I think most anything that I would have suggested has been covered, although www.jennifers.ns.ca is the best gift shop in town. It is my go to place for family and friends who have moved away and need a piece/taste of home or if I just want to send some NS love.

The weather here is upredictable to say the least. The last few days have been 78-85, although humidity can make it feel much warmer. My clan was swimming last night and it felt anything but cool.

If anyone has anymore questions, feel free to post and I will try to think of a few more of my fav. spots.

oops btw FRED (the free bus system) has been discontinued this year. There have been some issues with outdated print material still advertising the service.

Thanks so much for the weather update. Let's hope the trend continues this time next year.

Nova Scotia typically has a beautiful fall weather wise. Last year, the kids started school in 90+ temps. That is not quite the norm., but fall is a great time to visit.

Sorry it took me so long to respond Herman Family. I can't really say a lot about Dartmouth. Here is the wikitravel link for Dartmouth. http://wikitravel.org/en/Dartmouth_%28Nova_Scotia%29.

I have friends that live in Dartmouth now, used to be in Halifax. Although they live in the outskirts. Both Dartmouth and Halifax merged a few years ago to become the Halifax Regional Municipality. Nonetheless it is unique from its sister across the harbour. There are several museums reflecting the history of this region, unfortunately I have not been to them. I enjoy travelling down to Eastern Passage. There is a nice warf to walk out on, with a couple of restaurants and a few unique gift shops. Canadian Forces Base Shearwater is also located there. There used to be a chocolate factory on the way there, but I believe it closed down, someone can correct me but I think they made Pot of Gold Chocolates there. (There is still Gagnon's Chocolates an hour or so from Saint John in St. Stephen.)

I don't want to sell Dartmouth short though. It is a beautiful city, and most certainly worth a visit!!

Jeff & Val will be on the 8/5/12 cruise. I know of several other's from around here that will also be on board then. Looking forward to it and wanted to thank those with local knowledge for all the great tips.

Subscribing as a Canada/New England cruise is on our wish list!! Thanks for posting this thread.

THANK YOU

It's interesting when an idea will pop into your head. I was in the shower getting ready for work, when it hit me......what do other cruises do when they come to St. John and Halifax? :lmao:
Well here are some things that Disney Cruises MIGHT do in Halifax, based on some currently visiting cruise lines.

I will look through them, and I hope some of our friends who live in the area will too, and give our two cents worth on them.

Princess Cruises has 16 excursions, all I believe are "doable" in the time Disney is visting the port. Here is the link. http://www.princess.com/find/shorexDetails.do?portid=YHZ&voyageCode=3131&bID=PCPB&exType=S

Celebrity Cruises has the roughly the same number, here is the link for them
http://www.celebritycruises.com/sea...reExcursions/home.do&ShipCode=&pager.offset=0

There are a number of lines visiting: Aida, Holland America, Carnival, Royal Carribean, Norweigan and a few others. Just looking through the Princess and Celebrity, I see some overlap of excursions.

Here is Carnival's Saint John Adventures:
http://www.carnival.com/Activities/Excursions/Port/YSJ

And Princess Cruise Lines as well:
http://www.princess.com/find/excursion/exlistfordestination.page?portid=YSJ&t=N&exType=S

Norweigan visits Saint John, as well as Royal Carribean, P&O, and several others.

Some of these look like a lot of fun, makes me wish I could go on them!!! For you web surfer's out there do your own investigating and if you have a question about the quality of a port adventure you are interested in, post the link and we will see what we can find out.

Until Disney posts their Port Adventures it is the best I can do!

Is there one "Jennifer's" store? Would you have an address? THANKS! I love the idea:love:

Moving this up for those in planning mode for next spring/summer.

I am very excited about new canadian ports/cruises being added! it will hopefully be more accesible to those in/near that area!

Hmmm, I wonder if Disney would do that if there are available rooms. Get on in Halifax, get off in Saint John. Be very tempting if they would do that....very tempting indeed.

So yesterday, in my usual cruise-obsession mode, I googled "Halifax ice cream" and discovered at least two good options for an ice cream treat while in port at Halifax: Cows Ice Cream (on Lower Water Street near the ferry stop), and Dee Dee's ice cream at various places around Halifax including the Farmers' Market. :woohoo:
Can any of you local folk comment on ice cream in Halifax?
Didn't find anything special on "Saint John ice cream" -- anyone?
Ahhhhh what can I obsess on today????:rolleyes1

I just booked my New England/Canada cruise for 6/17!!!:cool1: Now I am starting to hunt for great things to do! One question I have is does anyone have a good idea for a hotel the night before we cruise?? I don't really know where anything is and I would like to find a hotel that has easy access to a grocery/liquor store so that I can get my goodies before we sail!! I will be flying in (but not sure what airport yet) and would love to have something not too far from the port. Thanks!
