Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

I'm so excited! Only 5 more days before I leave! Yipee! I need to do my last LR tomorrow... 10miles... we'll see how it goes considering the weather around here (in NH) has been CRAZY! We had a HUGE wind storm the other night and there are still trees down everywhere and like 250,000 people without power (luckily I am not one of them!). Then to top it off it snowed about 4 inches last night... I still hope to run outside as long as the roads are cleared... wish me luck!!

Good luck to everyone in the race!!

I have a question...

And someone tell me if this is a bad idea.

At what point do we check our bags?

I was wondering if I should wear my crocs (which are so comfy!) as I get TO the start place and then just "check" them and put on my running shoes after I check my bag?

Is that a bad idea? Will most of my walking be AFTER bag check anyway?

And does anyone happen to have a copy of the "2010 Princess Half Marthon Finish Line and Family Reunion Area" picture that you can actually read?

There is a decent amount of walking (20 minutes or so) from the main area to the starting line. But they make you check your bags in the main area so it won't help much. I know last year the first thing I wanted to do is take my shoes off, so I would bring crocs along but I don't know that wearing them before the race would help any.

I'd love to know about the bib numbers too. I am assuming everyone just wears it under their throw away layer but not sure if there is a rule that it must be showing.

As for the backpack--I don't know how comfortable that will be. I suggest a spi belt (spibelt dot com). I bought one at the expo last year and it is great! Just enough room for my room key, id, credit card and a camera! It stays nicely in place with no "bouncing" around. I have done all my workouts wearing it. It's about $20 and worth every penny!! I could see other uses for it too--like traveling on vacation and not wanting to carry a purse.

ETA: The spi belts come with a clip of sorts that attaches your bib to your belt with having to use safety pins. You could wear the belt over your sweatshirt and easily unclip the belt and move it to your tshirt--or even just slide it down a bit without even having to take it off! That is going to be my plan.

ETA (again!): I see a lime green belt on their site in clearance for $15.

I agree. Love the Spibelt!!!! Worth the money. I used the Spibelt to attach my bib and it works well. Although the bib does seem to get crunched when I bend over to stretch....so if you want to keep the bib for a nice memory you are probably better off wearing using safety pins for your shirt. Otherwise attaching to the Spibelt works great.

Hi, to answer a couple questions -

get some "throw away gear" -- it's cold at the start, and you are kinda hanging around for about 1/2 hr at least before the race, last year i had a trashbag on. LOL then , you have to walk for what seems like the death-row walk to the corrals.. lol.. and then wait more... i am planning on having a sweatshirt or something over my top, that i can ditch later - and maybe a cheap blanket for my legs -- once the race starts you can toss your items on the ground anywhere - the Disney CM's pick it up, and it gets donated to a local shelter..

As for a meet - yes, there will be a get together/dinner at POR food court on Sat. at 5pm. There is a make your own pasta bar there - about $10.

Again, i will be updating this list today.. Thanks!

Hello, Just curious about the pasta gathering.....is this still on? My DH and I are in the race and I would love to meet other Disney Fans and others who are in the race.

I just wanted to say - "good luck and have a wonderful time!" to everyone attending the race this year, We went last year and had a ball. DD was only 21 months and "ran" the kids race. DD18 and I raced together while Grandma watched the little princess.

I will definitely join you next year! :thumbsup2

Does anyone know if when they will announce the date for the 2011 Princess Half will be announced? I have my sights set on running a race at Disney and this may be the one.

first of all for everyone that trained on a tredmill or indoor track:worship:

We had a bad snow storm so fo rthe first time in my training I took it indoors and went to the YMCA to a track....I was sooooo bored. I had visions of mickey dancing in my head and was still sooo bored lol in hindsight I would have rathered the snowstorm.

So I did between 5-6 miles...my garmon didn't work inside so i AM NOT SURE AS i LOST TRACK COUNTING MY LAPS. Anyways I have two small blisters on the side on my heels. Better than last weeks 10 mile but still have them.

any suggestions for next weekend?

i already have wright double layer blister free socks.
I use body glide.

I know it is from my new othotics as I didn't have any blisters till I switched to them two weeks ago. If I use my old ones my hip starts to hurt real bad around mile 6 so not really an option.

Just finished my 6 miles, 1:12:53. Slightly hungover, as well!

I also managed to hit my goal that I set when I started training the first week in Jan, which was to do 3 miles in under 36 min before the race.

Considering that I started with doing 3 miles in 47 min, I was really happy to do 4 miles in 47:40 today! Slow and steady progress. :goodvibes

A week from tonight we will all be settling in for the night, getting ready to get up and RACE!! :yay:

I'm in MA (Merrimack Valley) and that storm really was wicked! I assume you're flying out of Manchester as well - when do you leave? We're leaving early Thursday am.

I feel your pain.

I am trying to get mine well. My 10 miler has really messed me up - so much so that I was wondering if I would even make the TRIP much less the start of the race.

I don't really have any suggestions for you. I am going to try to carry two extra pair of socks with me (somehow) and just take the time to dry my feet and change socks every 4 miles.

It may get me swept...because I would be close anyway. But my blisters are BIG - 2 inches in places and one is filled with blood - so I don't want to end up with an infected mess. And they hurt. Which I am willing to get through...just not sure how much is worth it.

Glad you have some time before you head out.

I am swimming this week in hopes to get some cardio in without putting my feet on anything to create more friction - and hoping my blisters get better with the chlorine.

I am doing Epsom Salt soaks and even using zinc oxide to try to dry the blisters up - that seems to be working for me - and resting a lot.

I know what you are talking about... I did 90% of my training on a tm, including every long run. the 12.5 mile slow run last week about drove me insane. 2 and 3/4 hours was my breaking point, and I walked almost the entire last 2 miles, but I got done in just over 3 hours. At least I know I can make it through and will have a road, characters, and all of you there with me!

Good luck, everyone! It will all be worth it come next Sunday! :dance3:

MAROO I have a blood blister too...it was healing but after today it is actually now under a regular blister lol. I am thinking I might use my old othotics....I don't know.....I am very worried about next week. I don`t find my feet are wet...the running store told me to bring extra socks too....hang in ther

Thanks - I am so disappointed, because I know that this is something I should do - but not sure how much I should push myself. I was able to do 10 miles in 2 hours 47 minutes WITH several stops for messing with my shoes. So, I know I can finish in time...Just not sure if I should even start?

Yesterday I was thinking I would not even go to Disney at all - who wants to go to Disney when you can't take 10 steps without pain? :confused3
