Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

about the blisters...i know a lot of people use bodyglide, and i do on my body parts, except my feet -- I glob vaseline between my toes and it's heaven and has worked great for me...i'm not talking - polite little dabs...i'm talking I glob it between my toes....not sure if it will help you at all, but wanted to put that out there

This time next week we'll be celebrating wearing our medals!

Good luck everyone!!

:yay: :yay:

About this time, the princess Norway breakfast will be finishing up and I will be drinking a beer in Epcot!

I am packing right now, since we are leaving tomorrow. Checked the weather for the race. It's looking great! Although DD likes it a little bit warmer. At least it's not sleeting like it was in January! I was at breakfast with my kids and grandkids and somebody asked when the race is> I looked at the clock and said, "One week from right now and I should just be about finishing." I think I have the beginnings of shin splints, so have been icing, advil and stretching. No real walks or anything for a few days. Gotta go with your past training and trust in it. We are at POR with DH, DD and twin granddaughters. See you at the race, with my tiara!

Okay I just found this thread this morning. I signed up months ago to do the Princess but have been keeping really quiet about it because it's my first half marathon and I have been nervous about it. I've been inconsistent with training, but I've gone from not being able to jog for any real length of time to doing miles in the 13:15-14:45 range. :thumbsup2 I did my last long run today; 10 miles in 2 hours, 20 minutes, so I'm feeling a LOT better about it now than I was even yesterday. (My last long run was 8 miles, sometime in January. :scared:) I'll spend the rest of the week taking it pretty easy, maybe doing a short bit on Friday. I'm getting excited now!

Piglet, it's my first too! I was the same, went from barely being able to do a 16 min mile to getting into the 12-14 range. :)

We can do this!! :yay:

:cheer2: Woohoo! I was a little over 16 min when I started. My goal was to bring it down to 12 minute range, but I didn't quite make that. I believe if I had consistently trained, I would have. I didn't and I have QUITE the list of excuses! The only legitimate ones really are the park flooded in December and that threw me off routine, I got sick for a week in January, and then I partied for about two weeks between the Superbowl win and Mardi Gras. :rolleyes1

Oh well, 12 minute miles was not my real goal. My REAL GOAL is that Princess medal for FINISHING the half marathon! :cheer2:

Congrats! Sounds like you have done well with your training! Give yourself the credit you deserve!:woohoo:

I'll be running this race again this year! My friend, Where'sPiglet, will be run/walking with me! This will be my 4th half marathon, and I've already run a full marathon. I cannot wait! I am also running the Wine and Dine half marathon!!

LOL Apparently my name has been on the first post of this thread for months! :lmao:

Congrats! Sounds like you have done well with your training! Give yourself the credit you deserve!:woohoo:

Thanks! I am proud of what I've done!

WHO DAT!! I was thinking about wearing one of the FINISH STRONG shirts during the Princess, but I decided not to. We went to Bourbon Street right after the game and it was incredible!

I hope you have safe travel also, and thanks for the encouragement! I wish I had come across this thread earlier!

Hey guys,

I just realized the princess run is taking place this weekend at Disney and we will be there! I am an avid runner and am probably going to sign up tomorrow for the half marathon. I had a couple questions for those who have done it before, how far are the different corrals spaced as far as time? I really don't want to have to start really late as I want to finish up in time to get to the parks!! I plan to finish in around 2:00-2:15, but don't have proof of time for any other race. Does this mean I will be put in the last corral, if so, does anyone have any idea what time this corral would start at? Also, is there a lot to do/see at the stops or are they just stops for water/bathrooms? Last, how is the track, I assume pretty flat as there isn't many hills on Disney property? Thanks for all of your help!!

....I have been mentally "battling" with myself for several months over the fact that my training didn't go as well as I would have liked...I have several feet issues that sometimes slows me down and then I thought...."Finishing is my real goal and that Princess medal is going to be the same medal no matter what my finish time!" The fact that I'm out there is what is important! Can't wait for the half...

Yes with out proof you will be put into the last corral, but don't worrie, the princess: is a small race and it will not take you long at all to get across the start line.

The entainment is all along the course, more often than not, not at the water stops!!! You will see more fur & face in the parks and music along the roads, but you will get some photo opps with F / F on the roads too.

There are a few "hills" mainly the road off and on ramps, then the road leading to the comptempry hotel. To be honest they are not steep, just the fact that they bank gives people problems.

Hope to see you there.

Jenner - Final instructions can be downloaded here:

http://espnwwos.disney.go.com/events/princess-half-marathon/

There is a menu bar at the top right corner of the page that includes download links.

According to the final instructions, Corral E will be starting at 6:28am.

Your pace sounds pretty speedy - will this be your first timed race? I had to change my corral time in the January half and they took a printout from a 10K, no problem. Even if you have an official time for a 5K, it would be worth a try. Weaving around walkers is not the end of the world, of course, but it does not sound like the experience you are looking for. If you do end up in corral E, I would suggest getting there early and getting to the front of the corral - It seems they may be starting each corral as its own wave and if you're at the front, you have a little more elbow room once you start.

Like Christine said, the course is pretty flat - the ramps are a beast with the banking, but they make up a relatively small part of the course. There are also a few bridges and underpasses, but nothing to huge or incredibly long.

- I think everyone has training that doesn't go as well as they hoped from time to time. You can definitely still finish - it may not be as comfortable in the end, but you can do it! It's absolutely right that the medal is the same for the rest of us as it is for the first 10 people across the line. Training can make a difference in time, but for most people, it is the difference between 10-20 minutes. Just think of it as more time to enjoy the course. More minutes per dollar spent on registration. And never forget:
Dead Last Finish is greater than Did Not Finish which greatly trumps Did Not Start. DLF>DNF>>DNS!!

See you all soon!

Hey kids!

I'm getting crazy excited now!

I did a 10k this weekend. I did better than I expected, but still can't decide on my pace for the half. And more importantly, I've seen the pictures and my so-called favorite shorts are not going to be with me for the Princess- there was a whole lot more thigh showing than I intended!

For those of you worried about your training, I've never gone into a race as trained as I'd like to be. Things happen- weather, kids, injury/illness, work, whatever. Don't worry! You'll be great.

If this is your first Disney race, remember to enjoy it!! This is my 4th Disney half- I've enjoyed all of them in different ways (running with my mom, coming back from having a baby, running with a friend)... nothing tops that first race. Pay attention at Magic Kingdom- it passes quickly! Remember to smile coming through the Castle- there are photographers up and down the ramp. They had a photographer at the foot of the ramp last year so you could get in line and take a picture with the Castle in the background. Some races I haven't been caught by the photographers on the ramp, so I'm hoping they'll have someone in that spot again. I think it's worth the lost time to guarantee a picture with the Castle...

Oh, and when I say enjoy, that doesn't mean that some moments aren't kind of tough- think overpasses and bright sunlight. ;) And sorry for misleading about the massages and the mylar blankets- I'm pretty sure syco is right and they gave out the mylars at the January events only. I didn't do the massage last year for the Princess because they changed the start time to 7 and I needed to check out by 11- stressful, but we made it!

OK, going to actually try doing some work now!:rolleyes1

Thank for the post Jen. I need that encouragement...just not having faith in my training...not that I won't finish or have enough time, just that I push myself and am a goal setter. Finished 7 miles this morning on the TM (ugg) and just had thought of running free outside and getting somewhere.

The bib number thread had some projected finish times...anyone looking to do 9:30 -10:00 average mile with a few stops for photos with princess' and in from of the castle? Don't know what corral I'll be in and probably won't be at the dinner Sat. night, but I'll be wearing a raspberry color running skirt, white shirt with picture of Princess Minnie on the back and the words Princess Joan around picture. I'll have a pink hair bow printed with green castles.

Well, time to get out the suitcase and get the house in order for DH and DS

Are you going to the dinner at 5? I think I'll try and wear a name tag or something dorky like that, lol.

Shawna, yes! I will be at the dinner on Sat. I will be wearing my 5k medal and tshirt probably!! :thumbsup2 But, i will make sure to have lime green on somewhere also! When do you arrive??

Thanks for the response, I appreciate the help! One other question, do you spend a lot of time doing photos and/or other activities with characters? I want to take it all in, but I also want to try to get a decent time, do you think it is possible to take it all in while you are running or do you need to stop take advantage?

Thanks!
