Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

How can you tell how full the race is?

At some point, it will be posted on the official website. It will say something like:
Princess 1/2 Marathon (XX% Full)
Royal Family 5k (XX% Full)

I feel like they started posting fullness levels when the races hit 50% last year.

So I just finished this LO and I thought I would share it! princess:

Lauren - that looks great!!! My sister is a scrapbooker, me on the other hand having 4 children - I just do not have time :confused3

Needless to say, it is the 19th and still nothing for the hotel list. Even though I am DVC knowing I would like to be close to a marathon hotel, to save a couple of dollars ;)

Lauren, AWESOME lo girl!!! Love the fact that you and dh are still smiling, and not holding up signs to some profantiy towards me for getting you into it! LOL

I am dying waiting for hotels to be announced. As for giving them your email so you are the "first to know" - i have my doubts - i did that last year, and never heard back from them. :( I check the site daily.

I asked a variation of this on team thread, but it makes for a good general prompt. Lots of us are finalizing our late summer/fall/early 2010 race schedules and/or in training for them. So let's talk events. Two questions:

  1. What event have you committed to that you're most looking forward to, Disney marathon weekend excluded? And
  2. What are you most looking forward to about Disney marathon weekend, if you are attending? (With sympathy :grouphug: to those who are not.)

with only 8 days left until it is JULY!!! I decided to call, about the hotel list and guess what...................THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE IT

When I asked if maybe July is a better time frame, the KIND woman responded NOPE - we are still being told JUNE - lets all start laughing now - clearly no one has a clue :rotfl2:

To get past my frustration at Disney for not posting hotel information yet, I am thinking about... TRAINING! I know many of you ladies used Marathoning for Mortals last year. What is that program like? What are the pros and cons? What were your experiences with it? Is it worth the $15 for the book? :)

I think it is worth it. I used it (not as much as I should). I haven't finished reading the book, but I pick it up every now and then. I just re-started it since I am doing the Philadelphia Distance Run in September. I am transitioning myself to the Run/Walk Program. I figure at the very least I will be R3W2 for the race if not the R4W1 that the plan has.

Ah, it's summer. The 4th of July is right around the corner. Summer always strikes me as the time for family vacations and road trips. And I'm sure many of us who are traveling are either participating in races--and :worship: to those of you doing events in the summer heat--or we're continuing to train. So...these random thoughts made me think about the challenges of traveling for WISHers, whether traveling to an event or for other reasons.

This week's mixer asks you to share your best tips and strategies for traveling. We're interested in all things related to staying active on the road, from packing your gear to what kind of exercise you prioritize while squeezed for time and in unfamiliar territory.

A sampling of possible questions: What are the must-brings? How much to pack? How to pack your gear--tips and mistakes to avoid? How to best deal with bulky shoes and stinky clothes? What kind of XT do you do while away from home--do you have anything you bring with you?? What about your guidelines for running/walking in areas with which you're unfamiliar?

I'll probably ask a race-specific traveling question closer to January, but tips on race packing are always appreciated. And those of you who are on the road frequently, for business or pleasure, your expertise is much appreciated. :thumbsup2

Hello, everyone! Okay, only two days left in June which means hotel information should come out today or tomorrow... :wizard: Here's hoping!

Ugh, i check everyday for hotels, i am really getting aggravated.. My sis is planning on getting married at WDW a couple days after the race, so i would be there for about 10 days in March, so i would love to know what hotel i can afford to be at... Come on Disney, POST THE ROOMS!!!!!

As for the MFM book - loved it. I will definately follow their plan again for the 14 week training. I highly recommed it!

Ugh, no kidding! Really, if they had no intention of posting the hotels why put a date. Just remove it for pete's sake and just say coming later. It just annoys me to no end to see that "coming in June" sitting there when there are only 2 days left in the month.

Caitsmama, I purchased a copy of MFM today and I love it! I really like the emphasis on choosing the right plan for you and staying injury-free. I haven't decided if I'm going to do the run/walk plan or the run plan for the half marathon, but I'll definitely be using one.

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I am really considering running the Princess half. I ran a 5k many years ago and really haven't run since then until about a month ago. I can only run about a half mile before I stop to walk! Is it possible that I can get ready for a half marathon in 8 months? I am scared of getting "swept"! I love Disney so I am thinking that a trip to Disney is the the one thing that will actually keep me motivated to run.

I did have one kind of weird question for those who have run it before. I see lots of people have pictures with characters during the race and I was wondering who takes them? Do you have to bring a camera with you or is it photopass or some other service? I can't really imagine bringing my camera with me when I run but I definitely want pics.

Thanks!:goodvibes

You can easily get ready for a half in eight months, someone will be along with advice for training plans....I don't use one so no help!!!

There are many people who walk the whole race others walk / run, so don't feel that you need to run the whole distance.
I would say that at this years race most of the women where there to have fun, a few where there to win, but not many.
It was a lovely race......you will love it.

For the photos you will need to take your own camera, as I know that photopass are not paid for any of the races :sad2:(friend is photopas CM) so don't expect to ever see one.:lmao:

There is a company that take race photos at certain locations, ie. start, castle finish etc. These photos can be bought a few days later off there web site.
