Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

I'm doing 10 on Saturday. DBF is going to his conference in St. Petersburg on Friday and won't be back until Wednesday so I'll be able to train without feeling guilty about leaving the house early in the morning. And I'll be able to scrapbook on Sunday. Woohoo!

Stacy - COngrats on your 10!

swim_mom - I put down 2:19 for my tiem this year, but a 1:55 for 10 miles is liley closer to my real pace. If we're in teh sma corral,. maybe we can give it a whilr!

Last year, I put down 2:30 and was in A corral. :scared1: I have NEVER been so close tot eh start! Felt like an elite! :rotfl:

OMG 2:19 is pushing it for me! LOL the extra push is a welcome motvator though :) Just remember I am only 7 months post op from cervical spine surgery!

I would love a sub 2:30 finish, but the reality is that as long as I finish I am OK with that!!

PM, I will give you my cell number since their is no way to tell you right now how to find me --- I have no clue what I am wearing since it is still cold in Disney right now. I am thinking capris right now.....BLACK!!! LOL and a tank top :) will see though

I was just wondering those of you who are doing run/walk plan for the half marathon, how many minutes are you walking and running?

I am going to try and run 1 mile and walk 2 min. If that isn't working for me I'll go to my training pace of 2/2. (I think I could manage 3/2 but my watch can't...)

I skipped my run yesterday, it is snowing here again and now it's windy. Hopefully I'll be able to get out Thursday; I need to get my legs ready for my 14 mile on Saturday and sitting on the couch does not help :rotfl:

I don't have a set time for each, I'm talking walking breaks when I feel I need too... it seems to be working, right now doing about a 13:20 mile outside with a mix of walking and running... an about 11:45 mile on the treadmill...

I do R3/W1 for shorter runs and R3/W1.5 for longer runs. I can't wing it because then I would do a lot more walking than running! I need the beep of my watch to keep me going!

Ladies (and gentlemen ;)), at Corinna's suggestion, I will start listing the name of your Princess on the bib # thread - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2393665

I will try to go back on this thread and find the Princesses named, but it might make it easier if you just post on the other thread.

It's getting close!

I just want to say how inspirational all of you are!!! I read how you're running in the snow and cold and I'm just in awe of you all :woohoo: I don't run outside if it's under 50 degrees, lol! Anyways it's great to read everyone's post and know that I can do this. I really hope to meet some of you and be able to put faces to names.

Good luck with your training this week! It's sooooo close!!!!! :yay:

I was EXACTLY like this before January.

I was very thankful that I was able to attend Marathon Weekend as a spectator. Although I don't expect it to be cold, snowing and sleeting as we walk - I am now getting prepared for it to be COLD.

Disney cold is a cold like none other, since you stay out in it. In our regular lives, most of us run in and out of buildings and cars and don't really stand out in the cold for hours on end. In Disney 45 feels like 30 when you are out there for hours.

January...I was in awe of the tens of thousands of people walking/running in the freezing temps. And resigned myself to get ready.

I have purchased some "middle" cold weather gear. It is not for freezing temps, but more for the 40's-50's that I am afraid we will get. I am just getting prepared for it.

One of the ways I am preparing is getting out in the cold and testing my stuff. The other day it was in the 40's and I thought I was going to be ok with my scarf, hat, gloves, long sleve shirt, jacket and capri link running pants....but I was still cold. I need an extra layer of pants.

YES - I live in the South. :rotfl2:

Also...we have to remember the corral. Personally, I am bringing a cheap coat that I can toss to charity at the beginning of the race. I am also bringing a towel to donate that I will use to sit down to get my shoes ready, etc, so that I don't get wet on the grass.

But I am totally with you...getting out when it is less than 60 is just something I did not do before January.

I'm confused. Can't you just copy the list from teh first post? Am I missing something? Forgivve me if my fuzzy morning brain is missing something.

Now when you guys are talking ratios are you running 3 miles, walking 1.5 miles or are we talking minutes? I think I've ran 3 miles nonstop once so I'm really hoping you guys are talking minutes otherwise I might be in trouble........

Shawna, I am talking minutes!! Maybe others are talking miles, but I think at that point they are probably just running the whole thing! :)

LOL, I'm in the South too! Although lately it sure doesn't feel like it. I've turned into such a cold wimp  Last week I actually did my long run in the pouring rain... not fun but it did test me and I made it! I don't like getting hot when I run but I sure need some gloves, I've been holding out thinking it was going to warm up but so far not happening. I was talking to what I would call an elite runner at the running store here locally and he said just to buy some cheap gloves from Wal-Mart so I could toss them during the run if I get hot. I also like your idea of getting a cheap coat to toss!! I will be doing a Wal-Mart run very soon. I've seen on some peoples blogs that there was a tent last year with bathrooms, food, and warmth, is that being offered this year and does anyone know for how much? I am sooooooo NOT a morning person. It takes everything I have just to get up @ 6:30 a.m. every morning and get the kiddo's ready for school so all this having to be there at 5am has me worried. I'm hoping the adrenaline will get me moving!

I plan on wearing my running capri pants, a singlet, and then long sleeve top over that and a cheap coat that I can toss (thanks maroo!) Seriously considering gloves and scarf! I usually don't wear anything on my head but I'm thinking maybe a Bondiband to keep the ears warm and I can always take it off and wear on my wrist if it gets too warm.

Anyone use Recovery Socks or KT Tape during a race?

Any advice on what to bring with me on the run from any of you who have done a 1/2 marathon or the Princess last year? Any tips will be greatly appreciated :thumbsup2

Thanks from the newbie :flower3:

Shawna-

I'm about an hour away from you in South Georgia and I'm freezing too! My mom and I did the half last year (cold but not like this year!) The cheap Walmart/Target gloves are great- you can toss them after a couple of miles or cram them in a pocket since they aren't very big. I brought an old small fleece blanket- my mom and I took turns wrapping it around our shoulders and could sit on it. We also wore really big comfy sweatshirts- we tossed the sweatshirts before the Castle (so as to not be in our pictures, of course!)

I'm going to keep an eye on the weather, but the person who pointed out that you are stuck in the cold forever was exactly right. You're not just opening your door and heading out for a potentially cold run. You're killing an hour or so in a parking lot... Some people teased us about our blanket, but they had to be from somewhere much colder! (Let them try running in the summer down here and we'll see about that teasing!)

Oh, and I hate getting up in the mornings, but this is totally different! It's actually kind of nice to go early since you've probably been up and staring at the ceiling for hours anyway.:rolleyes1

Shawna, I see you are in Jacksonville. I'm in NW St Johns county! Are you running or walking the race?

lolafrances, I'm doing the run/walk plan, I'm slow but steady :cool1: You're not too far away at all! Are you going down on Friday or Saturday? I'm driving down Saturday morning and staying at the POR. What's your plan for the race, walk or run?

I love, love, love KT tape. I use it for training and will use it at the princess. It might just be a placebo, but it works for me. I have a really bad left leg and I use it to tape my peroneal tendon, ankle, and achilles. Sometimes I also tape my IT band at my hip. If I'm wearing my CX shorts I don't need to tape my hip. My DH also swears by it for his lower back pain.

Thanks for the info Jen! A sweatshirt is a great idea too. Whatever I can find cheap will be what I get, lol. And you're probably right I'll be so nervous that I'll be up and ready to go!

Shawna, I am going down with my family (me, DH, DS 8 months, DS 3, DS 4) on Friday and coming back on Monday. We have a small camper and we stay at Fort Wilderness. My little boys are running the kids' races on Saturday. My poor husband will be holding down the fort with the little boys and my baby for the race on Sunday. I am more nervous about that than the actual race, if you can believe it.

What run/walk plan are you doing? I have been training using MfM. What is the finish time you are going for? I am hoping to end up between 2:30 and 2:45 using a run 3/walk 1.5 plan but I could also do run 3/walk 1 or run 3/walk 2. I just want to do my best and finish!

I am doing a walk/run with a walk 2 min / run 1 min. ratio.. i am averaging about a 13:45 min. That should allow me to play with my pace a bit if i need to..

I noticed the last couple days after doing my 10miler on Sunday, that my outer ankle is sort of hurting - when i am walking around with no shoes on - tends to hurt more - the pain seems to travel up my side of my leg (outter left side) -- do you think i was doing something wrong? I don't remember ever having this type of pain before..... Is this what taping would be good for?? (I just read about someone taping their ankles so i was wondering if that would be it..)
