Official Star Wars Half Marathon Thread...Jan 15-18th, 2015!!

One more week off. Trying to not be too bummed. Pathology showed lots of chronic issues but nothing we didn't cure by taking it out.
Do you guys have thoughts on proof of time? I have one 10k I used for proof. I finished in 1:41 with my diseased gall bladder. I could try to get my first half in on 9/28 or I could do another 10k the weekend after. I can't decide if it's better to submit a terrible time on a half or go for a better 10k time. Since I am not running I am thinking about this WAY too much. :)
Either way I will do a local half on 11/16. Just to mentally know I can go the distance. I am so overthinking this aren't I? It'll be better when I am actually running again!

Sounds like you're getting there! One more week is nothing! You'll be back to running before you know it!

As for the proof of time thing...IMO its probably better to submit a good 10K time than a poor Half time.

I went to the Dr. yesterday for my IT band and the good news is he didn't make me stop running completely. The bad news is that I can only run 1.5 miles at a time for now. Ugh.

How long is your mileage capped? I think the 10k is a better idea too. Just knowing I can be better trained, etc. and it's less stress to prepare considering I just had abdominal surgery lol
I hope you can up your miles soon. And I can get some miles!

Good thinking! I'd do the 10K too if I was in your shoes.
Um, I stuck at 1.5 for at least 2 weeks. Hopefully I'll be able to start moving it up then.

A couple short runs under my belt. Going to try for 3.1 tomorrow. Spent the last couple days with my sister in law that I am running the half with. That's been nice, my kids love her! Hope everyone is healing well who needs it!

I'm running in the Star Wars 10K and found a local 10K for September so that I can hopefully get out of the last corral. When I went to runDisney they only talk about proof of time for the 1/2 marathon. Does that mean they're not accepting proofs for the 10K?

Training has not gone well for me at all this month, but I have been getting better at getting out there the past week or so. I've put in a couple of back to back short runs, but there's still a long ways to go.

You have time, just keep building. That's what I keep telling myself. I am struggling in this heat/humidity. But all the things you learn during the struggles benefit during the race right? Hang in there!

I cannot do any training for this in the summer. I now realize its just not going to happen. I can ride a bike for 30 miles but jog or walk or stroll for a mile??? I am dying!
I am hot right now and its 630am. I walked , walked on the treadmill in my basement for a half hour at a 3.5 incline and was sweating bullets.

I used to think I would take advantage of these days. Really long days, getting up at 5am or going out at 7pm at dusk...but then I have to deal with the biting bugs that come out and they attack me as I sort of live in a wooded area. Not too mention its still humid out.

So I just ride my bike when I can. I will start training for this when summer is over. Days will be shorter but I can tolerate it more.

Slogging along with the heat and humidity here. Consistently getting in just short of 2 miles in before work two days a week. Looks like Christmas will be is Disney World this year!!!! Which means I am scheduled for a a 4 miler the weekend before we are looking at leaving a a 9 miler the day after we return. Oops? I am sure I can find a 20 minute out and back loop to run a couple days while I am there! #disneyworldproblems lol

Christmas in Disney should be fun!
Then two weeks later you in Socal.

I don't think I'll be able to do the Star Wars 10k and I know Disney does not refund, but can I sell my registration?:confused3

I am pretty sure they don't actually allow that. I cannot remember now, if we need id to pick up our bibs? I thought we did need to show id.

I am thinking id was required, in DW anyway. Some people who were 'selling' their bibs had to pick up their bibs and then do the trade off outside.

You can't sell your bib, runDisney requires photo ID to pick up your bib and if you get caught with someone elses bib during the race the person who bought it and the person who sold it face a lifetime ban from runDisney. You can contact runDisney and ask for a deferral though. I'm not sure exactly how a deferral works other than you can ask for your registration costs to be applied to a future race, that is your best option.

On an unusually related to Star Wars Race weekend tangent, I was very excited to see the Avengers medals because of how I think it will translate to Star Wars. Since runDisney took great care to incorporate the stylized Avengers A, it has me very confident that the same care will be taken to incorporate the Star Wars design into that weekends efforts.

And while I still have filed this completely under pipe dream status, I'm really hoping that the Rebel Challenge medal is patterned after the medal Princess Leia gives Luke and Han at the end of Star Wars. My not so inner Star Wars geek will start an ewok celebratory dance if that happens.

Heads up For anyone that hasn't booked flights yet... I just booked on southwest out of Northern California into Orange County for $57 each way for the SW half marathon weekend. Great deal!

Glad to see they posted the training plan early. I always struggle with the first month or so of training so hopefully I have that out of the way now since I started training shortly after registering.
