Official Star Wars Half Marathon Thread...Jan 15-18th, 2015!!

Oh Mylanta! I have to download that sucker and it's going to scare the bajeebies out of me!!!!

Haha, the training program starts the day before my birthday! I'm super excited to get back into training in earnest (although I still have more dental work to do so that's going to slow me down a little). I miss running! I will be prepared for the Rebel Challenge.

Just downloaded the training plan. Christmas Day and New Years Day runs! Might need to play with that a little I think ;)

I will download today but a Christmas Day long run won't happen. Looks like I will be doing a lot of tweaking!
Got a 4 miler in this am. Scared to plug in my Garmin and look at the data. I know the humidity is still absurd here and my last mile sucked. I think after 3 miles I need to start thinking about fuel. Is that normal? Some lady looked at me like I was nuts as I huffed past her! I nearly told her six months ago I would have laughed at me too.

Fuel in warm and humidity is good. The gu packs say you should take some for anything longer than 45 min and weather can lower that time. Play around with what works for you and go with it. Everybody's different. I take in a lot of water and even bring a small battle with me even on short runs.

Just a heads up that the Rebel Challenge training plan was originally posted with some pretty major errors. It has since been fixed. Look at week 12 of the plan. If you don't see a 3-mile walk on Saturday and an 11-mile run on Sunday, you need to download it again. (It should be a 19-week plan. If yours is a 20-week plan, download again.)

I wasn't very happy with my placement last weekend at the Disneyland Half for the 10K, so I attempted to add my time to our registration to see if I could bump up my placement a bit (my time says yes). Now I am being told there is no proof of time taken into account for the 10Ks? :confused3 Does anyone know how they decide which corrals to place you in then? I really don't want to be stuck back in D again - it was WAY overcrowded and if I hadn't resorted to running on the median to begin it would not have been pretty - barely any movement at all in that first half mile if you were in the crowd. As it was, I could barely get up to speed during the whole race and here I have worked hard and improved the time of my runs at home a great deal! :sad2:

If not proof of time, then how would i make it into one of the earlier corrals?

10k placements is somewhat based on the pace per mile you selected during registration. From the registration page:
What is your anticipated pace per mile? *
Under 7 minutes
7:01 - 9:00 minutes
9:01 - 11:00 minutes
11:01 - 13:00 minutes
13:01 - 16:00 minutes

If you select the 13:01-16:00 minutes, good change you are in the last corral for the race.

So I could have put anything at all? :rolleyes1

Looks like I said 11-13 which is about right... 5.5mph is 11 min miles but I am getting better every day and wish I'd done the 9-11 in that case. I better make sure I'm at the front of the corral and hope for the best.

I don't recall getting a 10k option for the Rebel Challenge? I think it only asked me for the half marathon time? (could be wrong...it was 3am for me when I signed up).

They will use the same one for the 10K - or at least thats how it worked with Dumbo! :)

Anyone else having trouble downloading the calendar onto a mobile device for the rebel challenge? It won't add most of the Saturday workouts for some reason and I've tried everything I can think of to fix it.

Having stayed a super value hotel for my past two runDisney races I think I'm finally going to bite the bullet and book either PPH or DLH for this race.

That being said the super value hotel I was at was PERFECT for Tink but it was so NIGHTMARISH getting to the Disneyland Half starting lines and I underestimated how long it would take me to do the loopdy loop and get to the corrals (so I'm afraid I was one of THOSE latecomers showing up in the walking sardine lines when wheelchairs went off).

Does anyone have any guesses of which direction the race will start? Like Tink with starting line by PPH or like the Disneyland Half with starting line nearer DLH?

Hmm. I might check out the DL hotels too. I am already booked for a hotel that claims to be across the street from the entrance.

Okay. So far the cheapest rate I saw for a DL hotel room with a standard view is $439 a night! My room nearby is $132 a night. So I think I will stay where I am.

For those who frequent DL at this time of the year wanted to know if the Haunted Mansion will be open that weekend? I missed it during the DL half weekend a few weeks back due to them prepping for the Halloween. Would hate to be jipped again due to the removal of the holiday decorations this go around.

If your talking Star Wars 1/2 weekend, going off of last year, haunted mansion holiday should be totally down during SW 1/2 and haunted mansion would prob be back up a week or 2 afterwards. It does look like IASW holiday should still be up during that time.

HM opened early afternoon last year on Friday race weekend. Pretty sure it was open the year before that weekend too. IASW will be open and lights on for the runs. I think they closed on Monday to take everything down though.

JOY! I completed 6 1/2 weeks of radiation therapy on the 8th and today I did my first 3 mile run/walk per the training plan! It's been four months since I ran and I cried tears of joy today - I had forgotten how wonderful it felt to run-I've beaten this darn disease and can't wait to enjoy Star Wars race weekend with all of you! I also posted my best training time today - guess that 3 pounds I lost because of surgical removal LOL helped!

See you all in 4 months!
