Official Star Wars Half Marathon Thread...Jan 15-18th, 2015!!

I was excited to hear about this, until I saw it was in DL. And right after the marathon weekend. The date doesn'r work either, there is a race here at home I do, a 10 mile race sponsered by a brewery here on LI. Which, for $40 registration gets gets me a real nice shirt and unlimited beer:) Which leads me to the question, I see on the site that this race is sponsored by Sierra Nevada Corp, would that be the beer? If not, what is the Sierra Nevada Corp?

No, that's not that's not the beer. They are an electronic systems provider. The beer would be the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company.

I'm hoping to attend a runDisney presentation today:yay: Got my fingers crossed!

For those who have stayed at the Anaheim Hilton or around that area, do they provide shuttles at that hour (how reliable are they?) or is it better just to walk to the start and back? How long would that take? Similar to the distance equivalent of heading to the corrals from the Epcot parking lot?

We stayed at the Anaheim Hilton last year for the DL Half and I can't remember if there were shuttles or not. The walk over to the starting line is actually not that bad, at a brisk pace you can probably get there in about 15 min or so. If you have walked around some of the bigger WDW resorts, this should be no problem.

FYI, there is a post in the Disney Challenge FB group from someone who talked to runDisney today. There will be NO late pick up for people trying to run the Castaway Cay 5k and the Rebel Challenge. You must make it to Anaheim in time Friday night.

For those thinking of running WDW marathon weekend and then Star Wars weekend back to back, that's exactly what I did this year, with WDW and Tinker Bell! It was so much fun, and I'm so glad I did it! I was worried my legs would be tired, but I took it easy most of the races, and my fastest time ended up being my very last race! 10 medals in 11 days is pretty exciting!

Instead of going home (Seattle) in between WDW and DL, I flew directly from FL to CA on Monday after the marathon, went to Disneyland on Monday, spent Tuesday-Thursday morning traveling around So Cal seeing friends, then headed back to Disneyland Thursday afternoon to hit the expo, so I'd be ready for the 5K Friday morning. And then, right after the half on Sunday, I raced to the airport to fly back to Seattle and made it to the Seahawks-49ers playoff game right before kickoff!

To say it was an epic week would not be overstating things. :D If it's something you can manage, I would definitely recommend it!

I have time to plan this....after I register for this race and assuming I am able to register (I will register at opening time).

So I originally was thinking...fly to MCO on Friday am...race Saturday....fly home Sunday.
Then
Fly to LAX on Thursday...do the challenge and return home Tuesday.

Then I think...will I risk flying back up north? My plan was to go to work Mon, Tues and Wed before leaving again on Thursday. But there is that snow storm bad weather risk to consider.

I could stay in WDW until Monday...then fly out west sometime that day. Hang out there for the week. Leave Monday instead of Tuesday the following week.

Hmmm.

On one hand I want to be able to go home, go to work for a few days. Spend less money in hotels. Break it up a bit.

On the other hand is weather.

There was a rather big group of people at Tink last year who ran all three events after running Dopey the week before. It was very impressive! Wish I could get myself over the hurdle of my first full marathon period, lol.

Hearing stuff like this makes me so tempted to still do the WDW 1/2 and then Star Wars Rebel Challenge to go ahead and get the coast 2 coast but still have to think which I wanna do more, so I'll be deferring WDW 1/2 to 2016 if I get registered for Rebel Challenge.

Question for AP Holders: I am a new AP holder, and a first timer, how does the early registration work? Do you get an email link or something on the website? Thank you for any help.

The best way is to find the link either on the AP site or AP Facebook page.

Forgot about the challenge medal, so it would be 10 in 11 days but eventually 11 with the coast to coast. Wow, very impressive!!

I was one of many of those people who did Dopey and Tink this year. Because of injuries I didn't train much and the only race I struggled with (but I made it) was the full marathon. I was proud to be able to complete all those races but I will not be doing Dopey in 2015 because of scheduling conflicts, however I plan on registering for all the Star Wars races.

Can the Castaway Cay Challenge logistically be done as well? 6 for Dopey, Castaway Challenge, 5K, 10K, Half and Challenge Star Wars Medals and CTC.

12 total if Castaway could be done.

But even without the Castaway medal, 11 medals in 11 days, wow!

I think someone said it prob wasn't possible to do dopey, castaway and rebel challenge because of packet pickup times for rebel challenge.

Wouldn't that be 13 medals in 11 days with the special castaway and Marathon medal?

You can't do the Star Wars 5k if you are doing castaway, because the 5k starts shortly after disembarkation in Florida. You can get out there for packet pickup for the 10k, though. Depending on the flight you get of course.

You still made it! :cool1: That's what matters!
