Official Star Wars Half Marathon Thread...Jan 15-18th, 2015!!

Wookie party?

I didn't see any details on this only its 99 bucks. I might sign up for it just cause.

I'm very interested, even if just for the photo ops. But $99? That's a single day ticket for the whole park for the whole day. I'm still tempted.

I assume that the Wookie Party tickets can be picked up only at the Expo. Unfortunately, that would rule me out b/c my flight wouldn't land until 7:30 pm on that Thursday.

I am not a runner but have done some charity 5Ks before. These have always interested me but I would likely only do the 5k and have my two kids run with me for the unique experience - but it is 5:30 am. After the wookie party? My kids will be 9 and 7 then and for the 5K it looks like run/walk can be done while still keeping the pace. I know most of you are real runners doing the longer runs - but any thoughts?

Thanks.

That's a good question. Going by WDW, tickets to the TOT afterparty were sent in the mail, not picked up at the Expo. Hopefully someone who has been to a pre-party can tell us what to expect for a different pre-party. Or you could write to rundisney, though they weren't too quick about replying to my questions about the new Castaway Cay Challenge.

Are the kids nice and active already? I bet they could keep up. DS and I trained for the WDW marathon 5K together, and he did great in training. (then on the day of I was sick sick sick so sick, so he basically just walked as I did my best to keep moving...so you can see why I mention how great he did in training, not the day of!)

But I'm not sure I would do the Wookie party AND the 5K if the kids would be doing the party. Up late and then up disturbingly early isn't always a great combo.

Who's planning on running marathon weekend then this? I'm telling myself I'm crazy but I really want to do this!!

I am registered for WDW 1/2, If I can register for the Rebel Challenge, I'll prob defer to WDW 1/2 2016. Personally with work and DDs school, no way could I do back to back trips.

I am. Fly into Orlando and check into my hotel in Disney on Fri morning. Run the half Saturday morning. Check out first thing Sunday.

Then

Fly to L.A. on thurs am so I am sure to be there Friday for the expo...do a race sat and then Sunday.

Yeah. That's the plan if I manage to get registered. I have a feeling this race will hold the record for sold out the quickest. I think it will be completely sold out within an hour.

I am contemplating it...Dopey then fly cross country mid-week for Star Wars Race weekend then finally home after nearly two weeks of the mouse's houses.

I'm so excited! My running buddy and I are definitely in for the Rebel Challenge, and hopefully we can talk my best friend into it as well!

I still don't get why they would move Tinker Bell to May instead of just scheduling the Star Wars half in May. I'll be coming down for both regardless, but it just doesn't make much sense to me.

I think it could be related to props and costumes. By having them not at the same time they can re-use some of the props and costumes for SWW for this race in January and then have them back in Orlando by May. If you have them both at the same time you'll have to have two sets of props/costumes.

I am a big Star Wars fan like many and have been waiting forever for the half. When I heard the news I was a little disappointed at the time of the race because I am scheduled to do the Goofy the week before. After the initial disappointment of not thinking I could do this from going from one coast to the other, my wife and I talked about how I could do this and found a way. So I am one of the crazy people going coast to coast in a week, but I am only doing the half in DL. I am flying in Saturday, run the race on Sunday, and fly home Saturday.

Probably both because of Star Wars Weekends in WDW in May, and to move Tink and Princess further away from each other. That's my guess. I also wouldn't be surprised if we see the Pink Coast-to-Coast challenge medal come back, and another Star Wars race at WDW for another Coast-to-Coast special medal.

I believe they will have no choice but to stage as race at WDW as well. There was tons of negative feedback on Facebook when it was announced it was a DL race. Plus, how cool would a night race be in WDW and have a coast to coast Star Wars medal. Or you could have a special challenge, Rebel / Empire, etc. The possibilities are endless. Ha, kinda like space.:goodvibes

I think I am going to try and register for this one. I was planning on Tink 2015 but this one sounds more fun. Plus a trip to California in January sounds much better then in May, I got to escape those cold midwest winters!

:)

I completely agree. There will be a Star Wars Coast to Coast option coming ::yes:: No doubt about that. Star Wars is a huge money maker for Disney. I'm expecting an announcement in November for some sort of Coast to Coast option at Disney World in May to kick off Star Wars Weekends.

Since they called this one "rebel challenge" I wouldn't be shocked to see an "imperial challenge" in WDW.

You know how Disney loves hiding things in movies, etc. Well, when Avengers announcement came out one of the bibs had the date of that. There was another bib. I think an announcement will be made in September and the race will be in May or late April.

I mean, why not, it's a gauranteed money maker. Plus, you have the option for a night race, more entertainment on the course since it's in WDW, the option of a full, plus, did I mention money.

When I asked my husband "I wonder why they are calling it the Rebel Challenge?". He didn't even pause and said "Because they are going to do an Empire challenge in WDW". DUH! :) Let's hope we are all right!

Lol, I thought I'd be able to handle this, but I guess the nerd in me can't! A Parsec is a unit of distance, not time! Hope I'm not embarrassing myself too much :lovestruc

It's all good...just don't start listing ships that small that DO have a cloaking device!

I was excited to hear about this, until I saw it was in DL. And right after the marathon weekend. The date doesn'r work either, there is a race here at home I do, a 10 mile race sponsered by a brewery here on LI. Which, for $40 registration gets gets me a real nice shirt and unlimited beer:) Which leads me to the question, I see on the site that this race is sponsored by Sierra Nevada Corp, would that be the beer? If not, what is the Sierra Nevada Corp?

When do Disneyland Packages come out? Does RunDisney do packages for Disneyland?

As we'll need park tickets & plan on staying at one of the onsite hotels, I assume this will be the cheaper option.

GetTravel is the travel provider for the races. They do have some hotel rates for Star Wars up already, but not all of them. We reserved our room at PPH for Tink and Avengers this year through them and also bought discount park hoppers. I plan on booking PPH through them again for Star Wars.

I called the number listed on the website and a representative that answered transferred me to "Michelle" 's voicemail. Why voicemail to get hotel prices?
