Official Star Wars Half Marathon Thread...Jan 15-18th, 2015!!

But when my mom showed me a vlog of the Tinker Bell 1/2 from a you tuber she follows, I wondered about the possibility of running through Disneyland in the dark.

Love your experience. I started out the same definitely wondering if I could do it. But now that I'm familiar with the distance and know I can conquer it I've become obsessed! :) Which youtuber did you mom show you? I love vlogs and especially Disney ones!

I don't remember. I think she vlogged about a lot of different stuff, including runDisney. My mom first showed it to me after I did the Coast to Coast.

So now that it's sunk in that I am really actually run/walking 13.1 miles my mind is turning to training. I was considering following the Galloway Avengers half plan and then flipping over to the Star Wars one. I am worried about recovering from my surgery next week and getting back what shape I have.
Round is a shape right? :)

That's essentially what I did when training for the 2012 Coast to Coast. I started the Disneyland 1/2 plan and then switched over to the Wine & Dine 1/2 plan immediately after Disneyland.

I'm still trying to figure out what kinds of long runs I want to do while waiting for the Rebel Challenge plan to come out. I've finished 3 other races using Jeff Galloway's plan, so I'm not going to switch it up now.

I want to get a half in under my belt do that I am less anxious about the distance and able to enjoy the experience more. I will be totally under trained probably but I am ok with that. It's not like I was healthy while doing the 10K a couple weeks ago. I think the more experience the better, right?

I agree with you. Or that worked for me anyway. When I signed up for Tink 2013 it was going to be my first Half. I ended up doing a Half 3 months before it. And even though I wasn't fully trained for that half, I learned that I could go that distance and I helped me prepare mentally for Tink.

Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but do we know what time the kids races will be on Saturday? Trying to figure out if I'll have time to get back to the hotel and shower before taking DD to the kids races.

Joining in the fun - DH and I are both doing the Rebel Challenge, one of our 14 yo boys will be running the half, and our 2 yo will be running the kids' race! We are super excited! My dh is a Star Wars fanatic and we haven't run anything since the Inaugural Wine & Dine in 2010.

We are WDW family, so I'm feeling lost about DL. The only time I have gone was in 2009 and that was with DH for a work trip, so we didn't pick our hotel or anything. Where are you all staying?

This is exactly what we ended up doing. Tink was going to be our first, but we ended up signing up for a local half just to test out our legs and maybe get a submittable time for corral placement. So the Princess will be our third half ever, all in a four month span! Good thing I started training yesterday!

For Star Wars we're paying the price to stay onsite at Paradise Pier Hotel. WE booked through Get Travel. Since I'm doing the challenge and DD is doing the kids races it will be nice to be so close to what should be the start/finish and kids races. We stayed here for Tink this past year and it worked out well. That being said, its pretty pricey and you can stay off site for so much cheaper. We're also running in Avengers in November and I can't afford 2 onsite trips that close together. So for Avengers we're staying at the Hojo on Harbor. The kids both love their kiddie pool. I love their beds, super comfy. The walk to the corrals in the morning should take me about 20 minutes and I got a great rate since we're participating in the races. Theres lots of hotels within walking distance so you have lots of options!

Yeah. I have to break things up like that. I am doing the half marathon in WDW and staying onsite...at one of the Epcot resorts. However the following week for the Star Wars race...I am staying at a hotel across the street. I just cannot do both...so I had to choose and since WDW is way bigger I decided to stay there. Apparently out of DL there are hotels that you can just walk to the start of the race from and that's fine. Tho I would love to stay at one of their hotels their too.

Thats a lot of running! It will be fun though!

Running half with SW's characters will be laugh. I am still thinking of dressing like C3PO because its easier and not as common and the Luke and Leia thing. However I also want to carry a lightsaber. C3op never held a light saber!

I was at TjMaxx yesterday and already starting rumpaging thru the sale racks of active wear for anything gold!

Meanwhile, I am waiting for Disney to open up their bookings for hotels in January to see exactly how much it is to stay onsite...tho I already booked a hotel nearby. It would be nice to know what it would cost anyway.

I am doing the same thing, have booked a hotel across the street, but with this being our first DL trip, we are thinking about staying onsite. Think it's going to be a blast either way.

I'm doing the 5K and 10k. DD is joining me on the 5K and she is doing the 400m. Looking forward to this event. We are staying nearby and we got great flight rates too. Yay!!!

Get Travel has already released their rates for the onsite hotels for SW weekend. Their rates will be lower than the rates Disney will give you once they start booking for January. http://www.gettravel.com/starwars/accommodation.shtml

Just last week I cancelled our booking through them for PPH hotel during Avengers and instead booked PPH for SW weekend. We can't afford onsite for both races so we're now staying at Hojo's for Avengers. Since theres one more race during Star Wars weekend I decided thats the better weekend for us to splurge for onsite.

Thanks for the link! Ordered our 2 day parkhopper for just a bit less than Disney's 2 day no park hopping ticket. Wasn't going to pay for the hopper with just two parks to visit, but now I can. Love having the freedom to be spontaneous!

I suggest doing homework on the hotel prices though. We reserved a room at Annabella, through their own website, for $65 less per night than Get Travel is offering. Had to check my confirmation to make sure I didn't reserve the wrong days! We just can't swing the onsite prices for DL. We like to save for the DW onsite stays, since we are doing the Princess half in Feb, Exp. Ev. in May, and back at DL for Tinkerbell the weekend after Exp. Ev! :crazy2: I think we went a little crazy this year - two runs at DL, two runs at DW, plus our annual November visit to DW. :faint: Christmas, birthdays, and anniversary covered for this year, and next!

We stayed at the Anabella for Tink and it was fine. Will probably stay there again for Star Wars too.

Can you just use them for park tickets?

It's weird how before and right after registration, we start thinking about costumes. My costume shirts were delivered the day of registration lol
Phil - what costumes did you decide on?

Hey Sean, as of right now I have Darth Vader and Boba Fett sta dri shirts for the 10k and 1/2 (might come up with more accessories) and a rebel pilot shirt for the 5k and DDs kids race.

You come up with yours yet, has donations and fan costume voting begun?
