Newbie here...
I will be making my second trip to WDW ever in August. And it will be my first actualy stay at SOG. When we went 5 years ago, SOG was completely closed for renovations, and they put us up at the Contemporary. It was nice, but this looks nicer.

You will love it! We stayed right after the renovation - I was pleasantly surprised! The rooms are huge compared to Disney resorts, and we had a great view! When we got to our room, they even called to see how we liked our room. I think that has only happened to us at a Hyatt Regency before.

Inda: I think you can actually pick and choose what you want packed in the picnic lunches. At least that's the impression I got.
Yes, you do have choices on the sack lunches -- DW and I went for the italian sandwiches (on ciabatta bread) while DS was perfectly content with good ol' PB&J.

Very filling, come mid-morning at the parks -- so much, in fact, we will use this option more on our return trip in a few years...

I really like Disney but will spend just one day at SeaWorld this trip ... how do you get from SOG to SeaWorld if you do not have a car ???
Is there resort transportation ???
Thanks for any help ...

SOG offers a shuttle service to SeaWorld. It's $10 for adults, $5 for kids, and free for kids under 4 yrs. You could also arrange to have a town car service transport you. That would cost around $60-75 plus tip, depending on your party size.

I have a question about the ticket prices. I see that you can purchase a Stars and Stripes pass which allows you to park hop and also includes the water parks. But do they have a regular hopper pass without the waterparks?? I could not find this and I am curious what a 5 day pass would be?? I see the Stars and Stripes pass with the waterparks is $288 per person. I looked at the Shades of Green site but could not find it there.

It won't let me post a link, but above the Star And Stripes info, there is a link that says "Click here to view regular WDW tickets" and the cost is $255 for a 5 day parkhopper.

www.allearsnet.com has SOG pricing available

Check your local MWR office. They sometimes beat the prices you can get at SOG

I haven't read anything about microwaves in the room. We were planning on picking up a cheap one once we got to town, but I thought I read something about a microwave in the laundry room?

Help!

how much are those bagged lunches?? and where do you get them? That would be PERFECT for my crew. Can you tell me what it includes?

No microwaves in the rooms. When I made a reservation I asked about them and was told they don't have them and guests are strictly forbidden from bringing them in, so don't bother getting one for your visit. It has to do with insurance and fire risk. There was a microwave in the laundry room near our room (new section 3rd floor). I don't know if every laundry room has them.

from what I gathered, you custom made your picnic lunches. ormaybe there were several levels/types to choose from.

We were thinking about doing that next time we went and just doing one TS at the parks each day. assuming we can get ADRs....

The day I checked out last December, I saw a man carrying a microwave in the lobby - don't know if he was checking in or out!

No microwaves in the rooms- that's half the reason food was an issue for us. We brought our own oatmeal, canned veggies, and soups for breakfast, snacks and small meals but there wasn't a microwave in the room. We were bummed. The fridge was also small and didn't cool that well so I'm debating keeping lunch meats in there or in a cooler. Hence the interest in the lunch packing scenario. It seems like it would be fun to have a picnic lunch on Tom Sawyer Island (and less greasy).

There was one in the laundry room and it seemed like too much trouble last trip but we'll probably utilize it next time around. I would bring a microwave myself as we have a super small one but it's against the rules :sad2: .

Everyone else wants rooms by the pool and we want one by the laundry room  .

If anyone is going soon and could get more details on the lunch packing deal that would be great. Food choices, etc, both sandwiches and sides. TIA.

I just booked the Grand Floridian on an overflow rate for a very special vacation. Husband disabled vet cannot attend with dd and me. I wondered what dining plans and transportation from the airport are available to us since we booked at the discounted rate. Can we take the Magical Express from the airport to the GF? Can we do the regular dining plan, for which we would get the sit down, quick service, and snack every day? Is it worth it to purchase the Dining Experience card? I think I would have to assure myself eating enough food to recover the membership fee for the DE card.

I think we might be eating from the hot dog carts all week.

Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated.:flower3:

Wow! Now, THAT'S the place to get an overflow rate for in WDW! What dates were you trying to book? Maybe we'll try ourselves! Lucky you - even if it means hot dogs the whole time!
