Just a note about viewing your bill from your TV, this July when we went we tried to find the channel on the TV to view your bill (we did this two years ago just fine), but this year we couldn't find it.

Now we did pay upfront (upon check-in) but we wanted to check our bill on the TV to make sure everything was okay and I was not able to find it. I'm not sure if it's still available or not.

However, awhile after we were home (a few weeks) we noticed a charge on our credit card from SOG that we shouldn't have been charged for, we called and talked to someone and got it straightened it out right way. The lady we spoke to said SOG had already caught the problem and was refunding our money, which was great to know they caught the problem before we did!

Either way, if we were able to view the bill on the TV we would have found the mistake on our bill before we left. It's okay though, because SOG has excellent costumer service and they were able to fix things so quickly that it wasn't a huge problem.

Thanks for the heads up. When it is something good, I don't like to think they will change it.:rotfl: I may e-mail and ask about it.

Did they at least stick a bill under your door the morning of check out? I try never to be in a big enough hurry not to read over every item before leaving. Back in the "good old days" when we had to pay for the fridge, we were double charged for the entire stay. Got that cleared up quickly.

Staying at Shades 9th thur 17th October and it is just DH and I, any suggestions on what to do, this is our first time at Shades and staying onsite. We have always stayed offsite, but kids are grown and have their own families so this time just the two of us.
Thanks
Kathy

SoG is a great resort and a fab deal for those that are eligible. The resort is quiet and has a great transportation system. The Polynesian is about a 10 minute walk up the sidewalk so consider making plans for dinner there or even catching the monorail when going to the parks. Have a great time- will be there in Jan. We have been several times and keep coming back ;D:cool1:

Our nightly ritual is to go to Evergreen's and have a few drinks and some of their excellent Teriyaki wings and their sublime Key lime pie. If you are golfers I understand that SoG guests get deals on greens fees at the adjacent courses.

off site,I suggest a show at Cirq or House of Blues. a NICE dinner, either an V&A or one of the DTD restaurants. Resort Hopping..just take a day and visit all the resorts, even if it is just the ones along the monorail.

and of course.. visit the parks!

Has anybody ever shipped something to themselves in care of Shades of Green?

I'm thinking of ordering a baby bathtub and high chair booster seat from Amazon.com and having them shipped directly to Shades of Green. (We're staying for a long time, so buying these things from Amazon would actually be cheaper than renting them from A Baby's Best Friend.)

I'm worried that these items would be fairly bulky, so that SoG would not want to store them for a week or two.

Alternatively, we could stop at a large Target or Wal Mart on the way from the airport; we'll have a rental car.

Any thoughts or advice?

Thanks! :goodvibes

Yeah they did put a bill under our door, which we checked before we left. Problem was for us, we were charged for a purchase at the gift shop (we had a gift certificate) and we were charged for a breakfast (we were on the gold leaf package with included breakfast). So those things were not on our bill, they were apparently billed to our room on separate charges. Needless to say we didn't find the charges until they showed up on our bank statement, but when we called SOG they had no problem refunding us our money since it was the hotels mistake (which they caught before we called, said the refund was already in the works).

I just called Shades and was able to get our dates of the 9th thur the 17th of October. Husband is coming home on R & R Leave, and we are going to WDW and Shades for 8 days. This will be our first visit to Shades, I hope everything goes well and we enjoy our time, we have always stayed off site. I am looking forward to trip and our time together.

So happy you will get to do R&R at the World! We did a "just us" trip in 2004 at SOG - coming back split stay in March 2009. DH got me coffee from the little coffee shop on the bottom floor every morning. We loved walking to the Poly - saw George Bush drive by on the highway - he waved to us as we stood at the entrance - from there we could easily take the monorail to MK and Epcot. The buses ran very efficiently to the parks and TTS and DTD -much better than Disney buses - we probably didn't need to rent a car, except there's no transport from the airport.

We ate a quick sandwich and drink at Evergreens :thumbsup2 , ate breakfast at the buffet - it was okay for the price - We bought our snacks and souvies in the little BX - got great park ticket deals - and we got a great pizza and onion rings at the take-out window one night. It was nice and relaxing after the parks.

We enjoyed walking on the boardwalk at night and watching all the activity and the lights, having the Fantasmic package at Hollywood Brown Derby, and eating ice cream from Beaches N Cream outside by the "beach" at Beach club.

You'll have a great time whatever you do!

Alas, bills on TV are no more...don't know if I can handle that. At least we don't have to go by the front desk or anything before leaving. More like it use to be. I had really gotten spoiled to doing business by TV.

This is the response I got from SOG this morning:

We do offer the Express Check Out; however, we do not have the bill on
the TV. We do bring a bill very early in the morning and slip it under
your door and if you agree with the total, you do not have to stop at
the Front Desk, they will just charge your card on file.

Kindest Regards,

Courtney

"Serving those who Serve"

We just got back from SOG and did Express check out.
Very easy and all our charges were accurate!

Also, someone mentioned discounted golf - DH and DS got a discount when they played the Palm course. Tee times are set up at Guest Services.

Stroll leisurely over to the Poly and enjoy the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the beach while sipping on a fruity tropical drinks...

If you aren't attending MNSSHP then I would suggest doing the above on one of those nights (Monday or Thursday) - Hallowishes is fabulous. Then catch the Electrical Water Pageant following the fireworks.

We will be down there the same time and dinner at Kona followed by after dinner drinks and fireworks from the beach is on our agenda. :)

Oktoberfest is going on at Shades the last part of your trip - might look into that.

We had about 20 cases of 180 Energy Drink shipped to the hotel last year. (We run for AB and were going to be sampling at the marathon.) They didn't have a problem with it, and it even arrived a few days before we did. They even brought it up to our room for us after we checked in. Just make sure that it is shipped in the name of the person who is the qualified military/reserving the room. I'd also call them and let them know that you are having something delivered. They seemed to appreciate it when we called with the FYI.

I remember reading somewhere about watching MK fireworks from on top of the parking garage. Do people really do this? Would you? Anyone have any tidbits?

Yes, people do this. Yes, I have. Just keep the time in mind so that you are not suddenly trying to get to the roof after it starts.

It isn't like everyone is on the roof trying to see the fireworks. There may have been half a dozen people when we did it.

Thanks magicfor2 and pixiedustspeader,:worship: we will try and do some of the things you both suggested.;)
We we planning on doing Kons's and drinks on the beach afterwards for fireworks on the 14th and that is my 50thand we will be celebrating our 29th too.:rolleyes1 oops told my age.:cool1: But that's okay still not to old for Disney:yay: Would MNSSOP be a thing that we would enjoy, i do miss see the kids at Halloween as we live in the country.:sad1: Was thinking of doing but not sure, would you do without kids??:confused3 Well again thanks for the info and any help about making decision about going to MNSSHP would be great too.:cheer2:
Kathy

I think you would have a good time at MNSSHP without kids. There are plenty of people without children in tow whenever we go. Just think, the park is not near as crowded, lines are almost nonexistent, and you can still get candy if you want it and no one thinks a thing about it. And there is something about the decorations, music, dark rides...oh, boy. I have to wait for 2010 before we can do it again!

Christmas this year, Halloween next year!!

Is it customary to tip the housekeepers at Shades of Green?
If so, how much per day?

I leave at least one dollar per person each day that I want the room cleaned.
It is important to pay each day you have service since you may not have the same house keeper for your whole visit.
Here are the envelopes I use
http://www.themouseforless.com/downloads/trip/mousekeeping.shtml
Before I head out in the morning I put the envelope in a place that I am sure the housekeeper will see it.
I leave the do not disturbed sign out when I do not need housekeeping.

Would MNSSOP be a thing that we would enjoy, i do miss see the kids at Halloween as we live in the country.:sad1: Was thinking of doing but not sure, would you do without kids??:confused3 Kathy

I just bought tix for MNSSHP for our group of two parents and an 18 year old. (Really, is there any 'grown-ups' at the Magic Kingdom anyway?!) It looks fun. In the past years I always said I wouldn't spend the $$$ but I changed my mind and bought them this year.
There were 3 nights during our week stay that the MK closed early for the party. Very crafty of the mouse to get me to spend even more money.
;)

Thanks for the tip info, Maine-iac.

Looks like we're your neighbors to the south! (NH)
We come your way alot to camp at Hermit Island and visit rellies in Searsport and Stedman.
