Official Seattle information thread Updated 5/28/2014-Oso update

Thank you! What is wierd for me is we can do that here in Louisiana...when we got somewhere else it just seems wierd that you can't there. Where would be a good place to pick up some rum and maybe whipped vodka between the renaissance on Madison and the port? Thanks again.
We use http://www.eastsideforhire.com/ all the time to take us to/from the airport. They're really great.

As far as liquor goes, the law did just change. Right now you can buy beer & wine in grocery stores and gas stations, etc, even on Sunday. It's just hard alcohol that is really being affected by the law change. The new law says that all the same places that sell beer and wine can now sell hard alcohol too.

What are my options for a limo from the airport? I read somewhere that it isn't much more then a taxi and my little girl would LOVE to ride in a taxi. I did contact the greentaxi deal but they were quite a bit more.

If you want, there are limo services who wait at the airport--they usually aren't a lot more than the airport taxis, but are almost always more than Eastside For Hire

Is there a way to find out how much and reserve them before arrival? Eastside doesn't have limos right?

Right...they were more then double their quoted car service and that was $55...the limo was $130. Is there anything else?

If you keep an eye on Groupon, sometimes you can get a really good deal. That would be my only other advice.

I know it's the unpopular choice... but take light rail to the nearest station and then take a taxi from there if you need to.

My family and I just got back from the Tutankhamen exhibit at Pacsci--let me just say WOW!!!! It was very impressive. My daughter (16) loved it, and so did my husband and I. One warning, GO EARLY or buy your tickets in advance--it is hard to get in if you don't. Also, if you can take the first go-round, do it--you'll have a lot lighter crowds. The gift shop is tiny and crowded, and navigating it in my mobiity scooter was hair-raising--you have to pass through it to exit the exhibit.

Which package did you do? There are several to pick from. By first go round do you mean earlier time? Thank you!

We did the IMAX mummy movie, and then followed it up with the exhibit. We didn't do the audio tour, but we saw a lot of others did and liked it.

We didn't do a "package" because my husband works for Microsoft, so we received a substantial discount on the individual elements.

The first trip through the exhibits is what I mean--as the day wears on, it gets very crowded, even though they stagger admission times and do their best.

So do you get a limited time in there? Does everyone need to do the audio tour? I am just wondering if my dd would care for it...she is 8, but then she might decide afterwards she wanted it! LOL Was the mummy movie scary? Thank you!

They don't officially limit your time there, but I saw no bathrooms and there are no re-entries, so I would make a "potty stop" and get a meal before you go in.

Not everybody has to do the audio tour--you can purchase it separately, get it with the package, one or two people can get it, or forgo it altogether. We didn't use it.

There were a lot of rapt, open-mouth kids around 8, and that was about the age I was when I first saw the exhibit. The mummy movie was not scary at all--there were many kids your daughter's age, and none of them appeared frightened in the least. It dealt with the science of it, and wasn't "played up" as scary.

So, what other locals are headed to the port today to see the Wonder? :cool1::cool1: I've waited a long time for this day!

Whole Foods is across the bridge from the port, not sure if they are going to sell liquor.

I was at this Whole Foods today. In the same parking lot is a Liquor Store. All the Liquor stores have/are being sold to private parties. I don't know when/if this one will be up and running.

Whole foods sells beer/wine. I have seen no indication that they are going to sell hard alcohol. So the Liquor Store should remain. (If a grocery store is selling they have the option of not allowing another Liquor store. The only chain I've heard refusing is QFC.)

I wasn't able to get to Seattle yesterday. Does anybody have a picture of the Wonder in Elliott Bay they are willing to share?

We had a lovely pre-cruise stay on the 19th. I'm afraid we didn't do much, after a late night the night before and a long day of travel, Mom and I both collapsed. Especially since the car service was picking us up at 6 for the ride to the Amtrak station.

Amtrak to Vancouver was super smooth and a great way to kick off the trip!

On our return to Seattle, debarkation was very, very easy. Honestly, I liked the colored bag tag method. Also, you debark from deck 4, starboard, so the line to get off the ship isn't stretching down the small walk way through the Promenade Lounge. It just seemed to work better. We did have trouble getting a porter - I don't know if there just weren't enough or we picked a particularly busy time. We ended up lugging our own bags out to the taxi stand (really, a very short distance).

We were really intrigued by the yellow flowers along the highways! They were so bright against all the dark green fauna. Just beautiful!
