Official Seattle information thread Updated 5/28/2014-Oso update

Just a quick question for the Seattle locals - is anyone familiar with Shorty's? It's basically a 21 and over pinball arcade/bar that serves hot dogs & nachos and is decorated like a carnival. I tripped across it in my research and it sounds really neat. http://www.shortydog.com/

Love, love LOVE Shorty's!

Just beware the special mix in the slurpie machine... or go for it, depending on how much you're already had.

Looking at the 4th photo it looks like you could hop off light rail and Be right at the rental center.

That's because the map is not to scale. You would go from the Tukwila station west across highway 99, a very busy road with three lanes of traffic in each direction. Then you would walk south along hwy 99, with a minimal sidewalk, across an overpass until you get to the rental facility. And this map is two dimensional; plan on a fair amount of uphill walking.

Take the shuttle - it is faster, easier, and safer.

I'll admit I didn't look too closely at the map. Being local I will probably never even know where the rental car center is and I've only ridden light rail to the airport once, as an adventure for my 4 yo. We dd Westlake to Seatac and went right back to Westlake.

Hey guys!

Sorry, I cannot read through all the posts, but I think I know what I'm doing. Or not. :confused3

I've been to Seattle a dozen or more times, so I'm good with what we want to do. I didn't have kids then, and stayed with my BFF who lived in Bothell, so I know nothing about staying downtown. I was looking at Inn at the Market. Anyone else stay there? We will be there post-cruise (flying in the morning of the cruise so no pre-lodging necessary).

What are the recommended hotels nowadays? The list on the first page seems dated, as it is missing the Fairmont, and that is one of the Disney recommendations (but only $995 rooms available )

And how do we get to the hotel from the pier? I don't think light rail will work with all our stuff. Cab?

Thank you!!!

LOVE Inn at the market, pay for the view if you can, it's worth it! We live here and have gone there for our anniversary, it's magical. You'll want to take a cab from the hotel. That said, with kids you could spend a little less and get something as nice but maybe a bit more kid oriented at either The Edgewater or the Alexis.

Thanks for the tips! I've briefly checked out the Edgewater and Alexis, and they seem to be about the same price (yes, I am booking last-minute). We may not be able to get a water view, since that suite is $550/night  But it's just for one night so we will just have to do whatever we can.

We are staying at the Pan Pacific, is that within easy walking distance of Westlake center? It appears so on the map but does anyone know? We were wondering if we would be able to take the rail from the airport. TIA :goodvibes

It's a good 5-6 blocks away from Westlake and further from things like the market. Doable though. You'd have a hike from the light rail stop with all your luggage though.

Cheapest cab is probably Eastside for Hire. Somebody said they saw varied ratings for this company, but I've used them many times (including to my daughter's AP Bio exam this morning!) and they have always been right on time and quite polite.

Thank you. We will just grab a cab then to make it easy. I don't want to start vacation wandering bickering lol.

Thanks everyone! Just booked Inn at the Market (and got the King Tut package! :cool1:). Will look into Eastside for Hire next!

Groupon is offering a deal on GameWorks. It looks like a pretty good deal but I'm not sure if public transportation would allow us to get there. We are staying at the Residence Inn Lake Union. Is GameWorks near any of the CityPass attractions?
TIA

It's a pretty easy walk from Westlake Center. I think if you take the South Lake Union Trolley it will get you within walking distance, but I'd double-check with the hotel (I'm not super familiar with Lake Union)

Can someone tell me the best way either private or public transport from SEA TAC to Marriot Renaissance Hotel on Madison?

Can someone from Seattle tell me where the best place to pick up alcohol is on the way to the port? I know I read that the
LAw was going to change the beginning of June. Are you able to purchase on Sunday there?
