Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

I am going 5/30-6/4. I considered staying at gf but when I read they are taking out the volcano and changing it to a rock feature I decided to stick with poly.

This may be the last time to stay at the resort with the pool and GCH mainly intact. The construction right now isn't too bad either.

FYI I used DISCOVER at orbitz and got 20% off disneys 30% off. All depends if your dates still have availability but may be worth checking on.

It didn't seem to me that the construction would impact the overall feel so much...I mean if construction is mostly in the section closer to the TTC and in the GCH could it really be THAT bad?

Also, for my Poly reservation I did use orbitz. Right now it's extra 15% off, which is really the only reason why I changed to the Polynesian. I couldn't justify spending over $400 a night in Disney when I could get the real thing for less!

:cool1: have a great trip!

Is it true that the arcade has closed with no plans to re-open?? This will devistate my son!

I'm sure once the DVC section is completed they will have the "Community Hall" where kids can go play games and do crafts and stuff. They might have some arcade games in that area?? I would think so anyway. :)

Anyone else have any ideas?? :confused3

I'm just so torn. I'd LOVE to stay at the Poly in May but I'm so worried that it'll be a mess. I'd like to change my hotel SOON before all the discounts end!

I thought the construction was very noticeable. As you enter the resort you have 10 foot tall green walls on either side of the entrance, you can't even see the resort. We could hear all kinds of construction noises as we walked around the resort. Definitely over by Hawaii and the buildings near the TTC. If I were going to stay there I'd probably ask for Fiji, or something on that side.

When you walk out the back door of the GCH this is what you see:

Not very noticeable.

But once you walk around behind Hawaii towards the beach it looks like this:

It took 15 months to build the Empire State Building.

With 3,200 workers, all the steel milled and the stone quarried ahead of the start date and the entire corrupt Al Smith political machine making the inspectors ... umm, call in sick. And no OSHA.

So yeah ... as a 30 year professional in commercial general construction, Disney's not exactly moving slowly on these projects.

I uploaded some videos to YouTube of the Poly construction, we went over last week to check it out. I actually cried when I saw it. :sad1: https://www.youtube.com/user/ekmurphy12 I'm sure it will all be beautiful once it's done. It just hurts to see it all torn apart.

Thanks for the video. Got my letter today regarding our May stay. So sad...but i really want to stay put for this special family trip. I don't know that it will happen again since my DD's are 22, 21 and 13.

Actually this really is not too bad! I thought it would be worse. I am still glad we choose to do another resort this year but these pictures make me really think about going DVC with the Poly when they come avilable. I bet they will book fast!!! The water bungalos look really nice!!!

Does anyone have an idea of when the construction on the water feature will begin?

I was wondering this myself. I thought the rumor the waterfall construction was imminent, but that was weeks ago. I hope they delay for...say another 50 days (after my trip).:thumbsup2

We stayed Poly CL earlier this week, and it's tough to describe. At times (like when we first drove in, when we walked into the lounge or walking to TTC) it was completely obvious and a little distracting. At other times, it wasn't noticeable. When actually sitting in the lounge, for example, we started to forget about it. And we could not see it from the pool. It was great for a short stay and because we're relatively frequent guests with APs. But for a once-a-year Disney vacation (or less frequent), I'd choose another resort.

Our 14-year-old loves Poly so much that he refuses to acknowledge the construction and would stay there in January if he could! But it will be too much for us then, so we'll split our stay between GF/BWI instead of Poly/BWI.

The CM who took us back to Hawaii didn't report on the timetable for the construction - just that it would start soon. He said the volcano pool was only undergoing a refurb, but that the volcano would remain, but that's entirely contrary to other reports, so I told our kids not to get too excited about that statement! The waterfall was in place on Tuesday evening (4/1/14)

I'll post photos as soon as I upload them to photobucket!

Yes I would love to see the photos!! Another question... We aren't staying CL, nor have I ever even walked onto sunset beach before. Lol. We have always requested Samoa facing the Nanea pool and so our focus is on the pool, the beach directly behind the pool, and the GCH... Do you think we would be able to block out most of the construction if we stick to these areas?? Given, of course, they don't start the construction to the water feature
Till after our trip.. (Fingers crossed)

I'll include photos from a variety of different areas, just to put the construction in perspective. Again, this was as of 4/1/14.

For non-CL stays, we always make this exact room request! And yes, I was thinking that would be a perfect spot for non-CL right now - the view towards GF is great right now and really untouched. A guest was sitting out on her patio and I was thinking her view from Samoa was quite nice!

I didn't take any photos of the route to the TTC, but it's really torn up right now. We still used in on the way to Epcot, but opted for the resort monorail back to GCH on the way back to Poly. Just a more pleasant return than walking through the construction again.

Thanks so much for the insider scoop! So was the GCH basically untouched? Just Wyland gallery closed?

AWESOME!!! I never walk the path to the TTC anyway, we always hop one monorail to the other...I have Babies in strollers, plus I'm too lazy. Lol:rotfl2:
Thank you for the info.. I think everything will be ok for us!!! This is my 40th bday celebration and the Poly has always had my heart since the first time I laid eyes on her:love::love: I can't wait to get there :goodvibes

Thanks for all the information on Poly. I am bringing my Grandchildren in Jan 2015 and I hope to stay here. I have never stayed at Poly but I wanted my grandkids to have a Disney Resort. Should I be worried about this construction ? Should I look at another resort?? Thanks for any info! This is my first post! yeah!

That's what we saw at the time!

Welcome!!! Our kids love Poly and it's great for children (and parents who would like easy access to MK!) We're returning to WDW in January 2015 and would typically stay at Poly for the first half of our vacation. But due to the anticipated construction, we are staying at GF instead. CR is another good option, and we've enjoyed it in the past, but feel GF is a better fit for our next trip.
