Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

Do you think the temporary CS location will have hot food- sandwiches and waffles?

It is my understanding that it will have everything from the original location but no dole whips. Tikiman posted a picture on Facebook of an official letter/ q & a from Disney that said something to that effect. Dole whip is one thing but if I had to give up pork nachos and tonga toast too... I would cancel my vacation. Kidding!

Sooooo... I don't keep up with The Dis when I don't have a trip on the horizion, because it's just too depressing!!! :p

Last week, I booked 5 nights Poly CL, June 6-11 and I was so excited :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I knew there was construction going on for DVC, but I had no idea that would affect the volcano pool!!! And, now I read some of this thread and NOOOooooo!!

Soooo... Does anyone know detailed dates about the main pool closure?? And the monorail maintenance?? And the GCH waterfall closure??

Errrr!! I was so excited and now a big fat wrench in my plans!! Whaaa!!

TIA:wave2:

We'll be there the same time as you! The volcano pool is not slated to "go under the knife" until July. We should be fine there. The monorail maintenance is supposed to be finish in April, so again, we should be fine. GCH - that is the big question. There just aren't answers as to when they're going to do that.

Yay for June 6!! Maybe we'll run into you... What ages are your kids if you have them??

And thankyou, thankyou, thankyou!!! I'm so happy the main pool and monorail won't be affected! The GCH waterfall is the least of my worries, so GOOD!! As long as I can get a grown-up grilled cheese from Captain Cook's, (wherever that may be) I'll be happy happy :p:p

I'm excited again!!!!! :hyper::hyper::hyper:

My daughter is 8 - and my birthday is the 11th!

As for Captain Cook's, it might still be closed for maintenance by the time we get there. HOWEVER, I heard that the temporary Quick Service location will have everything on the menu that Captain Cook's does...except the Dole Whip. That has me bummed, but this is not the worst thing that can happen.

Yay!! Nothing better than celebrating a bday at Disney!!! My minor aged traveling companions are 13 and 15, so a bit older than yours :)

Luckily there's a back up location for Dole Whips ;)
...But it would still be nice to hang out by the pool with one!! Can't win them all. But, I'd rather have the pool without the Dole Whip than the Dole Whip without the pool!! ::yes::

It won't be long now!!

we were at the polynesian in september before anything really started and then again in dec. both times tpv cl rooms and we were not bothered. We'd booked our spring break trip at wilderness lodge but yesterday I just decided i couldn't resist and i switched over to poly cl again :)

We just love the polynesian and I don't think we'll be bothered by the construction. It'll be interesting to see the progress, although i'm a little disappointed there won't be dole whips :) less then two weeks for us!

Definitely subscribing to this thread. The construction schedule will determine whether I stay here next Spring. I REALLY wanted to splurge and try Poly CL, but no way will I spend all that money if the Lobby and/or Pool is under construction. I really wish Disney would be more forthcoming as to their construction dates.

We just returned from Disney. We were over at the Poly on Saturday having dinner at Kona and saw several of the overwater bungalows framed. It didn't look as bad as I was imagining. They followed the same roof line as the long houses so it ties in with the resort. We have stayed at the poly many times over the years. I have to say I will stay at another resort until they are done. Just didn't like seeing the green fences up blocking construction. Parking is a challenge and we said our farewell to the waterfall in the lobby. They must be getting ready to take it down because there were no flowers planted in it though lots of green still.

That's sad!! I'm going too miss the water fall feature!! I've been staying positive about all this and saying maybe it will all look even better once everything is complete. My DH and I are going on the cruise this year, no parks, and staying at POFQ the night before our cruise. I had thought of eating lunch or dinner at Kona but now I'm second guessing that because that won't be until August 29 and I'm guessing at that time there will be quite a bit of construction going on at the GCH.

Aack! I just added two nights at the Poly last night after we return from our Disney Cruise (April 21-23). I am seriously regretting it right now :( Is the lobby going to be under construction? Will the monorail be running? I've checked out the pics and am thinking that I should make another choice. I was so stinkin' stoked for a few nights and my favorite. Waaaahhh! Thoughts??

Bungalows are going up. With how tall the roof pieces look (not on yet) it looks the the views will be affected all the way to the lounge of the Hawaii longhouse. I don't know that any first floor room will see the castle after they are done.

Okay, so this means you won't be able to see the castle for the fireworks from the beach in front of the Hawaii longhouse anymore :sad2: Wow, really sad about this....

I'm planning to be there from April 28 to May 3 and, right now, it's looking like the biggest potential ambiance detractors (provided you're not staying in the northeast side of Hawaii or the east side of Tokelou:eek:) are GCH lobby construction (removal of the water feature, etc.) and various walkway construction projects throughout the resort (these have already started).

It's anyone's guess on when major lobby construction will start. A few weeks ago, Tikiman reported that it could start at any time. I've also read some reports that they've started removing some of the lobby furnature, etc. So it looks imminent.

When I first heard about the construction last summer, I switched my reservation from Poly to CR. But when discounts came out last January, they weren't offered for CR for our dates, so I switched back to Poly. Now, I'm somewhat second guessing whether we should have just stuck with CR (or perhaps switched to GF). It's too late now as CR and GF are totally booked for our dates (even at rack rate:sick:).

We've decided to make the best of it. While I'm a bit bummed about the GCH construction, my bigger concerns were the Volcano pool and the table service restaurants (Kona, 'Ohana). Those should be open and the Monorail is supposed to be back to full service by April 1 (except for normal, unscheduled breakdowns:headache:). And who knows, maybe they'll continue to delay the major GCH construction, but I'm certainly not counting on that.

When we stayed at the Poly last October we had a CM take a picture us in front of the water fall feature. I told the CM that I wanted a picture before they took the feature away and he winked and said "I don't know what you are talking about".

We just made reservations at the Poly for this October. DH, DD, and I love the Poly and can't bring ourselves to stay anywhere else. But, who knows --- maybe we'll change our minds before the actual trip......

Still booked for 2 weeks end of August. Arriving Aug 20. Following Tikimans updates, I know pool will be closed but shuttle to GF is available. I'm trying to stay optimistic. But can't say I'm not worried.
When we were there for a dinner in January I spoke with a CM who said they are doing GCH refurbs a section at a time, so hopefully impact won't be huge.

I'd change except I think this may be the last time we will be able to stay at Poly. I've noticed this August the GF price (after GFV finished) is $50 higher thrn what I paid last Aug. Same with WL, after refurbs finished rates went higher then the already too high rate. :(. See a trend here?

One thing I don't understand is why they would close pool mid summer? Why wouldn't they wait till end of Sept/Oct ?

Meeeee too ::yes::

Any August stays receiving a Poly letter yet?:listen:

I got one from my TA with info I already knew about.

I've asked the family repeatedly if they have any concerns regarding the construction, and if they would rather stay at another resort. I keep getting the same answer over and over again. They still want to stay at Poly.

I know the pool construction is reported to have been moved up to the end of July, but the schedule being what it is, I am still hoping for it to get pushed out later.

We currently have adr's for both Ohana and Kona, so hopefully those will still be ok.

We'll just make the best of it. We'll still be at Disney World, and we'll still be at Poly. I know I am for the most part in the minority, but I am really looking forward to seeing how it will all turn out.

Just saw a post on tikiman's facebook page yesterday that Captain Cook's will remain open until April 9!!! Great news - not necessarily because we'd eat at Captain Cook's, but because it reduces the construction atmosphere and means that Dole Whips are available without a wait in MK (might have to wait for one with rum at the F&G kiosk in Epcot!)

Just a guess, but I think with spring break being their busiest time of year, it's imperative for them to finish the pool by March 2015. It's such a big project that they likely have to get started as soon as the summer crowds are just past their peak (end of July/beginning of August). That's my theory anyway. Hope you have a great trip anyway!

I think I'll be bringing some Malibu Rum with me ;)

That is a possibility. But sure would be nice to have the pool for August :beach:

We have an ADR for Kona Breakfast our last day. It's tradition that we do a special breakfast our last day :). We also are planning on a Kona lunch one day, love the noodle soup. I haven't heard anything about them closing, yet!
