Official Poly construction update thread **updated video page 103(2/17/15)**

Hey all, I asked this over in the other Poly thread, but it's probably more appropriate here. Anyways, any ideas what type of construction will still be going on in December of this year, 2014? That's around when I'll be going, and have been strongly considering a Poly stay finally. However, I didn't know just how much construction there would be. I know there probably aren't any exact dates, but wasn't sure if anyone had any ideas.

Just a guess, but I think with spring break being their busiest time of year, it's imperative for them to finish the pool by March 2015. It's such a big project that they likely have to get started as soon as the summer crowds are just past their peak (end of July/beginning of August). That's my theory anyway. Hope you have a great trip anyway!

Good thought.
But why does it take Disney so long to build things?

No kidding! 7-8 months is a LONG time to be without such a major part of a resort! I was hoping for some MAJOR discounts for this reason, but probably won't happen. *sigh* Wishful thinking. ;-)

I wouldn't pay what they're asking for a resort that's half torn up and no pool, but maybe that's just me. I'm sure it will be beautiful when it's done, though.

From what I've heard it seems like there will be work on the GCH at that time and maybe the pool.

I agree!! As much as I love staying at the Poly, their prices are high already, no way would I pay the same price or more for a resort that is having a lot of construction. I am anxious to see it all when it's done though!!

Sent from my LG G2.

Im planning a trip for sometime between Sept 2014 and early March 2015.. would you guys recommend not staying at the poly? I dont want to be surrounded by construction..and it would be nice to have a pool..

If you have never stayed at the Poly before, and are not yet a die-hard Poly-lover, I would wait until the construction is done. We have stayed at the Poly five years in a row, but finally moved our fall reservation. Even though we love the resort, we just can't justify staying there for what we can pay at the GF or CR with our BB while the pool is ripped up behind construction walls, part of the beach is closed and with work going on in the GCH. In fact, a friend talked to customer service a few weeks ago and the CM's opinion was that they should have shut the resort down for this volume of work, but they didn't because they know people will still come.

I agree! We're staying at Poly next week for a quick trip, but that's because it's a short trip, we visit relatively often given how far away we live from WDW, and the major construction has not started yet.

But once the pool goes down this summer, I told our boys Poly is off the list until the renovations are complete. We're returning in January 2015 for marathon weekend and our 7-year-old's birthday. So he gets to choose the resort for the first two nights, and then we'll be at BWI for the rest of the trip. Right now, he's choosing GF because of Poly construction, and because it's the only deluxe resort he hasn't stayed at yet. Our two teens insist that no amount of construction should deter us from staying at Poly. Except my husband and I are funding this, and we are deterred!

Wow. I'm in commercial construction and I look at their construction schedules and wonder how they manage to get things done so QUICKLY.

Seriously. They move projects along at freaking light speed in WDW.

Hey I just booked for 5/30-6/4. Can you tell me how Hawaii area is with noise, construction? I don't think it will be bad but ya never know. I was hoping our GV cl room would be put on lagoon side. Steve at Tikimans says they are doing that. I think I would like it since I was just there last year on both sides anyways.

For my room request I said "any 1st for 3rd floor room" with hopes they give me ANY;)

I don't think so. Look how fast Universal got Cabana Bay built, from the ground up. Look how fast they got Diagon Alley done.

Definitely! I'll take lots of photos and report back. I'll try to capture the whole area - I do wonder how much the construction impacts the overall atmosphere and it's hard to tell from the photos. The photos that depict only the construction site make it look overwhelming. But if one zooms out or takes a photo in a different direction, it changes the perspective. So I'll try to get a good variety and post here!

We also booked GV CL, so I'll let you know how it goes!

Again ... I do that stuff for a living. You should be amazed that ANYbody can work faster than Disney, not disgruntled that it takes so long.

A job like what I understand the Poly renovation to be would take well over a year under normal circumstances.

Does anyone know exactly what construction will be going on mid May? I just changed my Yacht club reservation to the Poly because I've always wanted to stay there and it was only about $50 a night more. From what I originally read it didn't seem like the construction would be that big of an issue then. Now I'm finding several posts on here from people saying that Poly staff members are saying to avoid it because it'll be such a mess.

Disney has always done such a good job concealing construction that I have a hard time believing it'll be that bad. The more I read the more I'm concerned though. I'll be VERY unhappy if I pay over $300 a night to have a room in the middle of gutted walkways and a lobby that's half walled off.

Just look through the pictures here, depending where you end up, the Poly might not be worth the money at the moment.

I think the volcano pool will still be closed during your dates ???

And the beach is just .... smh

Anyone else have any ideas?? :confused3

I'm just so torn. I'd LOVE to stay at the Poly in May but I'm so worried that it'll be a mess. I'd like to change my hotel SOON before all the discounts end!

Tikiman seems to have the most up to date information. Go to the March updates on this page in his DVC section-
Oooops, it won't let me post the link, but if you go to tikimanpages.com, you should be able to find it easily.

We'll be at the Poly for 9 nights in the first part of May and I'm not too concerned. Captain Cook's will be closed but there will be a temporary replacement in the GCH. So far, there is little going on in the GCH but how much time do you spend there anyway? The upstairs restaurants should be open. Looking at recent pictures, the grounds are still mostly beautiful except where they are building the DVC huts and that's kind of interesting. There is still beach to enjoy. The walkways are being redone, but not all at once and who knows, most of that may be done when we go.

We went to the Poly for our honeymoon and this trip will be our 40th anniversary, so there really was no question that this is where we want to be. We've stayed at the Poly during other renovations and it didn't ruin our vacation at all.

I'm planning on it still being magical and "home" :thumbsup2

It took 15 months to build the Empire State Building.
It took three years to build Expedition Everest. Three years!!!

And watch how long the Volcano pool will be down. I bet it will be down more than six months ... to build a swimming pool!

I am going 5/30-6/4. I considered staying at gf but when I read they are taking out the volcano and changing it to a rock feature I decided to stick with poly.

This may be the last time to stay at the resort with the pool and GCH mainly intact. The construction right now isn't too bad either.

FYI I used DISCOVER at orbitz and got 20% off disneys 30% off. All depends if your dates still have availability but may be worth checking on.
