This offer popped into my inbox just after midnight. The package can be booked from 28th May and includes a "Grand Opening" ticket and Breakfast at the Three Broomsticks, so I'm guessing an official opening date of 28th May, with soft openings some time before that. What has anyone else heard?

I don't see how they can be that accurate on the opening date, I know some US friends who are Universal guru's, based upon recent photographs it still looks far from finished, they reckoned early June but did not see how they could be that specific on an actual firm date.
Added to that no-one can realistically say what the building interiors are like, and there is still a substantial amount of landscaping to be done.

The end of May early June is a sound educated guess but I would be surprised if it is set in stone.

I will be so upset if that is the opening date!! Because thats the day i leave  Might be able to pop over for a few hours before though but it would be pure manic.

I've read everything I can find online on this during the past week (including posts on some subscription/closed forums) and IMHO nobody really knows yet BUT
  • The WWOHP area will definitely be open for onsite guests and those with packages from 28/05
  • They are hoping to have the area open for the Grad Bash nights in April
  • Soft openings for the shops may be as early as Easter
Its all very exciting for Harry Potter fans but tbh I would rather see it open after I have visited as Easter will be busy enough anyway with Mardi Gras/Spring break!

In the latest Virgin brochure they are offering the complimentary breakfast and early access to WWoHP to guests who buy Universal tickets through them. These benefits are for guests arriving from 28th May 2010 (that's my wedding anniversary, it's a shame I'll have to wait a few years until I get to see it :( )

Nooooo!:sad::sad: if that's true we'll miss it by 6 days.

Can someone explain soft opening - is the park still open to the general public or do they open for selected groups?

Attractions normally have a series of soft openings. First to staff, then to Annual Passholders and other "VIPs". Next they'll open periodically for lucky passers by. After that, they'll often open to the general public for a couple of weeks, but with no publicity. Finally there will be the big fanfare and official opening.

I am going to stick my head on the block and say it will definaltly be open for the 28th May. Can you imagine the uproar from all the people who specifically book the Harry Potter package, travel all that way and it NOT be open?It would be maddness to do that!
Although the outside still looks a way off being finished, its amazing how much can be achieved when you have a deadline and possible penalties to work to.Anyway it better be open we are staying at Royal Pacific on the 31st May for 4 nights.
i phoned up to see if we could change our 4 night stay to the Harry Potter package, but it would have cost us and extra £200 so we didnt bother.

The other thing I can add to this is I'm booked at RPR from the 17th-24th May which is COMPLETELY sold out! There is a couple of nights available but I think from the 19th onwards there's no availability at any hotel whatsoever!

If it does open on the 28th, we'll miss it by 4 days but it doesn't bother me as I don't like Harry Potter in the slightest! Although I will be a bit gutted if it means Duelling Dragons (or whatever it's being renamed to) isn't open!
