Official May 2009 Thread....The wait is on!!

We just planned a short trip to WDW. It's been almost 15 months since our last visit and the whole family has been going thru withdrawal.

Our DD is graduating from HS and will be done with all her AP exams May 8th. We'll be at WDW the 9th to 13th. We have a timeshare in Lake Buena Vista so we'll be offsite. Just made ADR for Flying Fish Cafe for the first night. (Tried 'Ohana but the place was booked solid:sad2:). Our son will just have to miss a few days of school - yes, he's devastated, lol.

Anyway, just happy to be getting a few days at the parks and away from the real world.

The night before we leave, we've agreed that we will play the "Disney Magic Kingdom" boardgame. Winner gets to pick the first park and attraction. If I win, we'll be heading to Epcot for Soarin'. :cool1:

What a fun idea!

It's been over 2 years since our last visit to the World, so my memory's a bit foggy! How many weeks before our arrival should we be expecting the package from Disney? Also, what's actually included in the package  Thanks!!!

Ok May please hurry and get here. We have a winter storm watch in effect for tomorrow. WINTER is over!!!!! I cant take this weather anymore, i need to be in florida :beach:

Kristin I am with you. I am so tired of the cold weather. May can't get here soon enough. I have today off so I hope to do some planning/packing or something that gets me in the spirit again. Just over a month to go!

28 days and counting.:thumbsup2

I glance at touringplans.com from time to time to check out their crowd level calendar. They have been adjusting the crowd levels for May and June now because of how busy the last two weeks of March were. On 05/04-05/06, the crowd levels were 5's, now they are all 8's. Does anyone actually think it will be THAT busy for earlt May with spring vacations over and kids back in school. I think that they are overcompensating a bit, don't you think?:sad2:

I'm so glad to see I'm not the only one thinking about the crowds, lol. (My wife thinks I'm nuts to keep tracking the levels.)

My concern has been that while the crowds won't be too large, the parks will just be cutting back on operating staff so the wait times will still be high. (Miceage.com recently had an article talking about the impact of cuts on WDW.)

Like everyboody else, all I can do is have a good plan and enjoy what I can't control. The advantage of this being a "too-many-to-count the times" trip, it's not like we need to do everything, so as long as we hit each person's personal highlights and have some good family time, that's all that matters. :)

That's how we feel too. We've done it all and are really looking forward to our ADR's and POFQ, 1st time there!! As for parks, we won't loose any sleep if we miss anything.

I don't think it will be anywhere as busy as projected. I think that due to cutbacks, and the economy, WDW undercompensated for the crowds and it felt a lot busier at times than it actually was. Not the touring sites are making predications based on that.

Yeah I was stressing at first and then I remembered back in '01 (I know it's been a while) we were at the MK in the middle of the summer, and I was surprised how much we were able to get done. I know it was a while ago and I went w/ 2 very little ones so our to do list was different but it was do-able. It can't be that bad in May w/ people in school before Star Wars wknds and before grad nights. I figure we will be at each park 2 days (minus AK) and what we don't do day one we will make a priority day 2.

27 days and counting

I'm not too worried about the crowds. I've been at the end of June/early July and was able to do everything I wanted. We just always made sure to be at the parks for rope drop, take our afternoon break, and then head back in the evenings.

Even during the most crowded times it seems like if you can make it for rope drop you can get a lot of things done before 10:00 when the crowds start showing up.

I can't wait, we are almost at a month out!!!!!

Hi! I'm a POFQ first timer too :thumbsup2

I've been watching the crowd predictions and I was getting concerned too. But I've been in August and at Christmas and as long as it is not as crowded as those times, I'll be OK.

I'm traveling solo so I can be more flexible than usual.

Crowds or not, I'm going to have a great time

Count me in as another POFQ first-timer! It was recommended to me for the quieter atmosphere.

I'm one of those Type-A, obsessive crowd-trackers as well. My husband and I made a deal that if it's too crowded in May to get everything done.. we''ll just bounceback in December :rotfl:

Lucky you!!! I wish DH would like WDW; to tell me that. I would be a AP holder if he let me. Every 5/10 years is a killer for me.

But, I am doing the happy dance :dance3: we leave in 45 days. Going a day early to visit a friend in Tampa.

Lucky girl!!! :)

I am a Type A person too. I've always toured the parks commando style so this trip will be different for me.

I'll have to remember to slow down do I can enjoy all the little things I haven't had time to do on past trips.

We're gonna TRY to slow down and take things in for our May trip too...we're only gonna be in the MK for one day, but over there for 2 nights, 3 days. I'm working on upgrading from ASMu, to the Cabin at FW, since there's no guarantee we'll be in connecting rooms with my parents, I want to make sure all 5 of us are together....so we're looking into a cabin. We'll see once my lady gets back to me!! :)

I went solo to POFQ in mid-March. It was wonderfully quiet. :goodvibes

I'm going back with my niece to POR (couldn't get POFQ!), so I'm hoping the crowds will not be crazy crazy.

I got around fine in the parks (see trip report), so talk may just be talk. ;)
